    Gearing up to do this project soon. I might try 2 wipers with only 2 protrusions on the cams to see if I can get a more random banging. I'm thinking one wiper on slow speed and the other on high. I have a crate already, but I'm just brainstorming at this point.

    Looks great, I have made several props but never a Monster in a box. I am wondering if uneven spacing on the cam might make for an interesting effect. boom..boom.........boom........boom..boom........boom, etc. I will add this to my 2017 todo list. Great video -- Thanks for posting!

    • @UndercoverMonsters
      @UndercoverMonsters  Před 7 lety

      I think you would have to put a cam at the bottom of the box with a hole cut out so that part of the cam touches the floor. That may very well work, but the box is pretty heavy. I did just see a video recently where someone made a box like that, pretty sure it's on the tube.

    Hey there, I'm trying to replicate what you've done, but the problem I keep running into is that my cam keeps stopping on the hasp and not turning, eventually falling off of the wiper motor (coupling bolt unthreads and gets so loose that it wobbles off). I believe I've done everything like you have done, but I don't know what I'm missing. I moved the motor more closer to the front of my lid and put the hasp closer to the front as well. I'm using an old steamer trunk that's relatively lightweight but thought maybe the lid was too heavy.
    That worked for about 20 seconds then the same thing happened. I took some pictures for reference if there is a way to send them to you, but I'm also wondering if I need to move the cam lower so just the edges of the fins/spines are hitting the hasp maybe? I'm also about to loctite the coupling bolt onto the motor threaded shaft, but wanted to reach out first. Thanks for your help and the video.

    Can you describe how the mp3 player and computer speakers work with the motion sensor? Do you leave the mp3 on a loop and only turn the speakers on and off with the sensor?

    • @isometrixk
      @isometrixk Před 2 lety

      I had the same question but he answered this question somewhere else: "It's just on a loop and it is playing nonstop but the speakers are what get triggered to turn on/off by the motion sensor. Plug your motion sensor into a power strip and everything else you want to turn on/off into that power strip."

    Question, How did you get the MP3 player to only play the sound while the box is "on"? All MP3 players I have seen are battery powered and will continue to play even if unplugged... on that same note, how you get it to turn on when the box turns on? most MP3 players you have to press "play" after they get power before they will start playing

    • @UndercoverMonsters
      @UndercoverMonsters  Před 7 lety +6

      It's just on a loop and it is playing nonstop but the speakers are what get triggered to turn on/off by the motion sensor. Plug your motion sensor into a power strip and everything else you want to turn on/off into that power strip.

  • @MrHartApart
    @MrHartApart Před 9 lety

    two things.. first i wanna see if im right about the mp3 player. you leave that running throughout the haunt and once the power strip fires up the speakers thats when you hear it just slam on no delay?
    second.. the motion sensor.. would you use one of those over a step pad pressure sensor? *my only fear is the step pad is for more 'burst,' effects and not anything that last longer than you being on the pad.
    other than that, thanks a bunch for the tips on how to build everything, its coming along quite nicely!

    • @UndercoverMonsters
      @UndercoverMonsters  Před 9 lety

      MrAnderson1985 You are right about the mp3 player. For the sensor, if you are going to use a step pad, i would place it a around the corner or several feet from the box so that it has time to kick on properly. But i like to use a motion sensor instead of a step pad. You can place the motion sensor anywhere and it instantly kicks on.

    • @crustyknight
      @crustyknight Před 9 lety +1

      Undercover Monsters A comment on motion sensors, I found they were rather hit or miss unless you had a strong light source. I ended up buying a bunch of 2 and 3 dollar flashlights from Harbor Freight. Duct taped them to a spike, placed the cardboard tube from a toilet paper roll over the light end. This helped focus the light while at the same time hiding it in the dark. Unless you looked right down the light beam you couldn't see it. The batteries lasted all night and it never failed to trigger my prop.

    @brianbrun5169 Před 7 lety

    That's a great video. The only question I have is about the MP3 player. What type of player do need that will automatically play the mp3 when power goes on to the rest of the box? Are you following me? Do you just have the player set to loop an mp3 sound and you get the sound only because the speakers are receiving power? In other words, the MP3 player is not turning on and off all the time when the power goes out?

    • @michaelmoss5476
      @michaelmoss5476 Před 7 lety +2

      This isn't my video, but I do just what you said here. MP3 player on a loop playing a single scary sound. Obviously this wouldn't work for any kind of dialog, but for scary noises, witches cackles, monster growls etc, this effect works just perfectly. Whatever triggers my prop will also power the speakers on and then off again. Also, an MP3 player with a USB connector is ideal so you do not need to worry about batteries running dead half way through Halloween night.

      I've been racking my brains for months now trying to figure out how to get a PIR sensor to trigger both the lights AND the audio.. I can't believe I've been so stupid!. of course, use the powered speakers ON/OFF to trigger the audio.. genius!.. saves me having to buy any audio fx board.. of course, you're right, you cannot have any pre-prepared dialogue as you never know when it's going to be the right time etc.. but as you say, for audio fx, it's perfect.. thanks!
