There's a deep melancholy here, even sadness, makes you wanna give him a hug...I find he really doesn't look well, but thank you so much for this interview.
I've been listening to Boa from the mid 90s and they would always play him at the disco. Living in Germany it's the artist I have most seen live, with Pia, without Pia....over the years.
Maybe I am wrong but I got the impression he has forever stayed the German underground artist - even though he sings in English! - I cannot understand why he is not more famous outside Germany! It's such a shame and other than his music I also appreciate his unconvential personality.
Back in time I remember people found him arrogant while it's basically just that he doesn't want to conform to society.

Interesting perspective and I think you’re right. He doesn’t confirm, in fact he talked about his attitude to record companies. I’m sure he was promoted less because he has done other what he wants. Big respect for that. He’s loved by his audience, deserves more success but in the end I think he’s happy knowing he can continue doing what he wants!

Great interview - much appreciated, loved it! Very interesting! I didn’t know that the band Japan was a musical influence also.
I understand the fans that visited the studio in Malta, I probably would have behaved the same way. 😅
    - I’m so glad Phillip Boa is still around!

    Hi Steve,
thank you for this brilliant interview and for honouring an outstanding artist like Phillip Boa. I stumbled over him just recently and I am stunned by the amount of his work and his persona, and it`s really a shame I didn´t discover him much earlier. However, I got the impression, (also in his recent stage performances), he seems a bit detached and sad, and the estrangement from Pia seems to hurt him still. I hope they will find a way to forgive.
I would be delighted to see and hear about where he stands artistically in the current moment. In the last couple of years he did a lot of re-releases with tours, still bringing out new albums, and this year the celebrations of Boaphenia…However, I hope the new songs of the Porcelain Files will get the attention they deserve… They are utterly beautiful!

Totally agree, except that relationships are what they are, and there are two sides to everything. I liked hem both, I met Pia last year at a dinner party. Obviously this is part of the optimisation of the catalogue that all artists are currently doing.

Very true, and there are even more sides to consider whenever kids are involved... I would not want to take sides, as they have always publicly stated that they have an ambivalent relationship. For the fans, their appearance as a couple has always been essential. I have spoken to many fans and most are still sad that they have gone their separate ways. Anyway, it's funny that he mentions the Voodoocult time. If the lyrics are really taken from life, Pia definitely deserves a medal of honour for putting up with him during that time!

@@starladear9513 yes. That’s really true. We love creative people for their creativity and it’s often their flaws which are connected to and an essential part of that creativity.

    love this!
but, excuse me please? after being a living legend for almost 33 years, he still claims not to know what his followers might see in him, and even came to believe that he does not "have an influence on anyone"? holy cow! if he didn't just say that in a fit of false modesty, i wish someone would tell him the truth. maybe write a book about him or something...

Thx and yes, I know! I think he knows he does, but his way of dealing with it, or accepting it is just to ignore it as if it doesn’t exist.
