I think people get a little too obsessed with finding their perfect type in these systems without realizing that they aren't scientific classification systems and even the people who create them are rarely consistent and can't articulate them. I think people should think of themselves as having their own type. I look at kibbe as thirteen buckets of items that usually go together. When you try on a lot of stuff that are highly variable in length, cut, fabric type, and style, you'll start to see the same ideas of things that look good and bad come up over and over again. Narrow down those silhouettes/rules that keep repeating, then go inspect the few buckets that highly correspond to those repeatable things and try on everything that was helpfully suggested as usually going together in those buckets. See what works and what doesn't. It's highly doubtful that what works best for you will only belong to one kibbe bucket. The overarching rules you need to follow and the things that work for you are YOUR type. These systems should serve you; you shouldn't bend yourself into a pretzel to serve them.
I appreciate your comment ❤
This is a great way to look at it. I'm also of the opinion that someone's personality or ✨️vibe✨️actually plays a significant role in what suits them or doesn't. E.g. my sister is definitely a type of natural, but she has such a dramatic essence that she suits soft dramatic lines moreso than natural.
Why are you watching this channel then?
@@zellalaing5439comment didn't say kibbe or other ID systems are useless. Just that they're only a tool to be used, helpful but not absolute
agree with you. like david kibbe typed rachel weisz as soft dramatic where she really looks like soft natural. i think sometimes he is baffled with his own system lol.
I find that this is much easier when you focus more on your style roots aka, your preferences. I can generally tell when something is outside of my lines or colour season because I can just see that it looks off on me so the things I think about are just “does it feel like me?” And “do I feel confident?” And I try not to overthink beyond that (which comes with practice)
Can we give Ellie a round of applause for seamlessly combining her mushroom/flower/earth style roots in that top? 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I Think it is suprisingly easier (for me) to combine all of these elements. When I started to analyse my kibbe body type (soft gamine), I couldn’t relate to some of the recommendations, just until I discovered my style roots - then I felt sort of liberated from that strict recommendations and I had more freedom and started looking like the best version of myslef - sun, earth, flower and stone are very „me” and I never could stop combining these elements, since I was little girl. Anyway, I was really happy I dont have to dress like typical perfect example of soft gamine - kibbe was just helpful knowledge about silouetteAnd then I discovered my etheral essence and felt like I was always right about my makeup choices. Seasonal analysis was extremely helpful all this time. So long story short, I find it easier combining all this elements. Being a perfect kibbe example was just soulless :D
I'm SG, dark winter, classic/ingenue/natural essence, moon/flower/mushroom. What I do is I make an outfit that has mainly an SG silhouette, but with one oversized item (usually a top or sweater) to make it look more edgy/moon but also a little natural. I also use my dark winter palette to make my outfits more dark but also classic. My pieces are mainly plain and classic but I try and mix in as much natural textures in my outfit to accommodate for my natural essence. And for flower/ingenue essence I try to have some ingenue details in my outfits like ruffles or small jewelry. Glowy makeup with lots of blush also helps.
It is all part of a toolbox to develop your own personal style. You can be the same Kibble type but have it translated in very different ways due to your essence blend and color palette. It clarified why I am a FN but to complete my look I need to bring in my different essences.
The substack group is very fun and not expensive. Her style root system seemed like a bridge too far to me at first but it gradually came to make sense. I have watched a lot of kibbe body type content and I would say she and Aly Art are my favorites and most helpful. All these things take a while to figure out and make sense.
I like them both too, and also Gabrielle Arruda's channel has been helpful (to me) for Kibbe & Kitchener as well.
@BeaLucile I like her but I just wish she would talk a little faster. It is just a bias of mine.
@@madelainedusseau4293 I hear you - I'm a fan of using the CZcams settings features to speed up or slow down people's speech rates on here, haha.
It's good just to hear it acknowledged that some of us don't fit into the defined type boxes and have elements of 2 or more conflicting 'types'. It would be interesting to take a basic outfit base and do variations for some of the variations.
Just want to say I looove the lighting and color combination you chose for them😍
Thank you so much!!
Love to see Refine Focus Follow make a comeback! ☺
This video was really helpful for me to incorporate my bright winter coloring into my flower and mushroom style roots. Thank you!
You have great energy and lots of knowledge. Don't feel rushed to keep your videos short. Tight jump cuts don't leave time for what your are saying to sink in. Hope you don't mind the feedback. I love your personality and content! Don't want to miss anything you are saying.
Flamboyant Natural, my essences are a blend of Dramatic, Natural and Romantic (I think). For now the roots I'm drawn to are Earth, Moon, and Sun/Flower.
I loved the section on romantic + gamine details - this is my combination and contrasted polka dots and cat eye glasses are staples in my style! 💖
When you start finding your colour season and body i.d etc you will make mistakes and you will make discoveries. Especially if you don't fit perfectly into a Kibbie i.d . When I found my colour season I excitedly would buy colours from my season and when I found my Kibbie i.d I would excitedly buy the silhouettes and then found I completely altered how I looked , I looked awful , I looked bulky , shapeless , imbalanced , wide and short whilst wearing colours that I would never wear , I couldn't see myself in the mirror. Through style roots I found my personal style again that I was unfortunate to lose over time through the vast fashion changes . This helped me realise I don't like to wear colour really , as much as I love orange it just isn't me. I feel like myself when wearing purple , grey , red, brown, black and blue so I wear the versions of those in my palette. I also found narrow , soft and delicate lines make me shine not boxy and A- line shapes. Now I can wear an outfit and truly feel like my outfit is an extension of me and helps me physically and spiritually shine.
As a light spring with moon as one of my style roots, the color/style root explanation was helpful. Since black or jewel toned clothing tends to be too harsh for me, I focus on moon in things like accessories or skirts and pair them with tops in a lighter, warmer color.
Patience is key to mastering your understanding how to focus and refine these systems. I used to have a very easy time with my style, but my body has changed so much over the last few years l have felt completely lost. I've been following this channel for about a year and half now and it's exciting to finally feel like I'm finding myself and my style again. I think it's best to start with the system that is easiest for you to understand (in my case, style roots which are mushroom, flower, mountain and color season which is dark winter) and then look for ways to apply it to each system. Once I worked out that I'm a soft dramatic with classic, ethereal, and romantic essence, I have been able to see how my style roots connect with my body type and essences. For example: my ethereal essence harmonize with the soft dramatic recommendation for long draped fabrics. My romantic essence harmonizes with the flower style root with the feminine details and the some of the rich colors in my color season. My classic essence harmonizes with my mushroom and mountain style roots because while I enjoy feminine details, I prefer them to be subtle. This video confirms that I'm now on the right trek.
Yes! I've been hoping for a video like this, this helped so much! You mentioned colors when talking about the flower root, is there a breakdown of what colors go with what roots somewhere? I see some obvious ones, like red is a fire root color, black is a moon root, but was wondering about more of the colors.
This is really interesting and helpful thank you xx
This was good. I love being able to narrow things down to a color palette and cut then look for those ruffles, ruching, patterns etc. Being known for something with the occasional wiggle room.
Something that can represent my love of cozy, nature and fancy delicateness.
Finding those things that can represent inner qualities or even emotions in color selection. Like finding art that resonates with you. I think that's where I get stuck sometimes. I have an idea in my head and it takes a while to find it in the tangible world.
This is helpful. I'm a 5'9 dramatic but also have very ingenue facial features. My color pallette is autumn but my favorite style root is moon. I feel very high contrast and its difficult to put together a cohesive outfit.
I think I've been doing this subconsciously for years. I'm a dramatic body with dramatic/ingenue face and light spring colouring. I tend to go for dramatic silhouettes (sometimes softened) with light spring colours & sometimes delicate small details to tie in Ingenue.
Thanks for posting! Really helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Love this so much!
This video is amazing! Thank you so much! ❤
You'r'e looking fabulous in this video Ellie! I LOVE your hair!! Wowsa!
Thank you so much for making this video💖
Yess i feel like i have a soft dramatic body and dramatic essence face
Sweetheart I don't know what's going on with you atm but your content is on🔥 every recommendation is spot on. Love it
Thank you! I’ve been struggling because my body is solidly SD but my essence is very natural. So I feel like the sensual glam of SD lines and curves clashes with my very average, blunt, and even masculine leaning facial features (I’m a carbon copy of my father 😂) like my small hooded eyes and wide nose. I need to find some kind of intersection between boho/natural and “diva chic” styles.
Sometimes I find if the fabric has a more natural texture or color, but has dramatic lines that can help with the balance. I had a linen green jumpsuit that had giant ruffled shoulders and I felt amazing in it.
FINALLY ❤
I am soft gamine, essence ingenue. Blessed
I love clothes ♥️
I think i've been doing the last one naturally - i'm a soft classic, essences are predominantly classic with some ingenue and maybe some dramatic due to my eyebrows and dark winter coloring. I've found i mostly don't like dark winter colors lol and for classic/ingenue lower contrast is recommended anyway, and so i pretty much went about my color palette backwards. I've found that white is my best neutral and that i can pair a lot of not recommended colors with it if i wear them as a skirt with a white blouse. Especially a very crisp white generally has a lot of contrast with any other color, even very light colors. People definitely need to not lose sight of the important thing, which is that they need to like their clothes!!
Violent florals 🤭 you have me intruiged.
I think, the style systems were created to make dressing and your life easier and now combining all those different style systems makes life even more difficult. I know that we don't fit into one mould, but anyway, it became a mess for me. It's also about your preferences. If I want to have more avant garde style, I won't exchange plad for gingham, because that pattern represents different style. I finally understood, that I also don't want to wear what others want me to wear, like more vivid colors, patterns and classic and feminine clothes. The way I feel and present in those clothes doesn't show confidence. I want to hide, and come home to change. But when I wear more relaxed and monochromatic outfits, I want to show myself, I want to talk to people. We all know it's just clothes, but a waste of time is to wear something that someone else tells you, you look good in, a stylist, a professional if you'd rather change. Life is too short to wear clothes you hate. I'm not hating or anything, just an opinion :D
You just described Ellie-Jean's style roots system. It's all about who you are as a person on the inside rather than body frame or face. Relaxed and monochromatic sounds like you feel the best and most confident in her Stone and Mushroom style roots. I confess her style roots are my favorite system so I might be biased. Ha ha.
I like this channel, but with each video, I just get more confused 😕
Same, totally lost
Is that the Son de Flor vest! It's so pretty on you
Where did you get that top? I love it
I would love to hear your interpretation of a classic body type with a natural essence, especially since supposedly the worst lines for a classic are the natural lines. But I happen to prefer them lol
I’m a soft dramatic with ingenue essence and I’m a light summer
My body doesn’t really match my face. I have a dramatic body type but my face is probably ethereal/gamine (still not 100% sure) - i look ~3-5 years younger than I am but also most people don’t get my age right since I look pretty timeless. I still don’t really know what my colour season is because I can wear so many colours (i have a neutral undertone) but I like wearing earthy tones the most.
So being able to combine systems is definitely helpful. I focus more on my essence with artsy/ethereal/celestial style and patterns since dramatic bold style looks too much on me
I’m a FN, soft summer, gamine/natural/classic, moon/earth/stone. I feel like the gamine and moon fight with everything else. 😂
May I suggest to try the spring colour season? I think this shirt (which has spring elements) looks great on you. Also great video!
First to comment wow 😳
Love everything about this video except the music selection. The saxaphone was very distracting for some reason.
Thank you this is helpful feedback!
I feel my body type is just fat.
This is turning into a whole PhD 🤯
Thats the mist geeeky Video so far.
As someone who's yin-dominant but hates frilly, pink, feminine stuff (I'm non-binary), it bothers me that I literally can never find actual, practical advice for dressing for my essences + body type. No, I will not wear bows and 'cute' clothing. I'm mainly an ingenue in the Kitchener system, and I absolutely refuse to wear those frilly, cute, dainty clothing. what about my personality? why can't I ever find advice that's inclusive of trans ppl in these style communities??? I gotta say, it's frustrating.
I don't want to discourage your experience, but these style theories are based on yin and yang, masculine and feminine. If you're yin-dominant, the recommendations will skew very feminine.
My suggestion for you would be to look at Kibbe and Kitchener verified men and take inspiration from there. Some yin-dominant men are Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood
Non-binary and trans have nothing to do with it. As an example, I am -
Kibbe Type - Dramatic
Season - Soft Autumn
Essences (2 different sources with 2 different recommentations in order from the least to greatest essence) -
Ethereal/Natural/Ingenue OR
Classic/Ethereal/Gamine
@@emelyblixt4172 I mean I don't wanna wear frilly pink, dainty clothing. I know there's more to ingenue, so what can I wear instead, is what I mean. I'm new to this system
@@avalonrhys I gave you my only tip for less "girly" alternatives - look at the yin dominant men. They don't wear frilly pink clothing. For example, a Romantic man might be better suited wearing a bow tie over a regular tie, and softer fabrics over stiff ones, etc.
What a confusing video. Why am I subscribed if she's just going to tell me to go pay to not be confused anymore?
Hi! I think she was clear in her explanation. Since it’s such a short video maybe you could point out which part you didn’t understand so she can clarify further?
@@marian-blackthorn It wouldn't hurt to make your video a few minutes longer. We aren't all so intimately familiar with all the details of these systems. Talking a bit slower and adding a few more examples would help more than going back to watch the video again.
If you are not familiar with them, a longer video wouldn’t help. You have to know your season, kibbe, roots and essence to know how to mix it. This video is about methods of mixing your essence, kibbe, season and roots.
This video builds on all her other free videos on this channel. I think it would have helped if she would have started the video by saying "If you're not familiar with these systems, please check out my other videos first (and linked them in the description.) She has free videos on every single one of these systems.
If you go to her channel and hit “playlists” you’ll find a plethora of free resources she has made over the years :) I can see why this video would be confusing if you’re not familiar with the different style systems. It can be overwhelming for sure. Good luck ! ✨
I kind of used my kibbe essence and season to inform my roots. I’m a SN true spring with classic natural and ethereal essence so I picked sun ☀️ to help channel my colors and patterns and earth 🌱and mountain ⛰️ for inspiration in blending my kibbe and essences
