When I became a manager I was given the book The One Minute Manager. People thought I was a natural manager just from reading the book once. Thank you for your informative video.

I have watched about 10 of your videos the last 2 days, Mike!! You are funny, give great advice, recommendations and suggestions! As someone in IT and Tech working in Hardware, Network and at times, Software Engineering, I'm looking to get into management full-time in 2024, no later than 2025. I have over 2 years of project management experience leading small teams but still not able to get a full-time, permanent position, as an IT or Tech manager, since I need more experience, I've been told. My experience has been as a contractor.
Love all of your videos because you are honest and shoot straight from the hip! Keep up the good work!

I had only 2 competent team leaders. The rest (6) were extremely incompetent. I think their incompetence was the reason why they got promoted - they were no threat.

I think a common misconception is that all managers are buddies with each other. While that does happen, I think it's far more common for your boss to hate their boss.

I have never had a manger that liked anyone asking questions. They were always annoyed and this puts you on their radar for not knowing something. This is especially true in an IT setting. Look it up and research first before ever asking a question.

I work a place where the managers don’t even know how to do the jobs that any of us employees do. How is that possible?? They are no help when people call out or when we need extra hands. I find myself upset when they tell us they don’t know how to do the job. As a manager, why not take the initiative to get more training? How did you even get the job 😂🙃😂

managers don't need to know the ins and outs of your job, you were hired to do YOUR job and the managers have their own tasks to do which you don't know about

    the problem is also character
    Leadership is character
Management is one of the skills a leader may need
Character can stand in for a Lack of Skill, but Skill can never replace character
You have a responsibility to your team, their safety, their wellbeing, their dignity and security

I couldn't fix my message so i will say here Japan focus is on the company. In America your management focus is on your ego.
