    Any chance that you might drive Legacy 3.0r Spec B with a manual?(wagon or sedan). I am torn between choosing IS200/300 Sportcross(if 300 then woth manual swap) and Spec B.
    I want most sporty and fun feeling wagon, but seating in subarus is really high up and doesnt feel much like an actual sportcar like Celica or any other coupe.
    What were your thoughts of IS200? Compared to BMWs and other cars you drove so far?

    • @testdrivehero
      @testdrivehero  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Is possible to test some Legact 3.0 (but very difficult), and almost impossible to find some R spec B for me, sorry.
      About the IS200, lovely chassis setup, letal weapon if you know how to drive and very funny in any situation, but the engine is clearly below of that chassis work.
      BMW is good for long circuit corners, but (for me) terrible on Touges.

      @@testdrivehero Thanks. Other car i consider is older Hodna Accord maybe even that Type R one sold in late 90s, but i am not sure if these were sold in LHD configuration. Plus i am affraid that interior would bother me, atleast 2000s honda ones are very plasticky and cheap feeling.(we had 2006 CR-V for a while)
      I have a newer Subaru XV rn, that replaced my 1990 Celica, its quite far away from sportcar feel celica gave me.

    strongflex or other PU bushings do not provide as much benefits to the overall handling as upgrading the ARBs and the shocks to monotube design shock. No need to lower it. If you can get lighter wheels with wider stance that would, combined with stiffer ARBs and monotube shocks (either Bilstein or KONI), provide excellent handling upgrade. I know because I have it and it is night and day vs stock.

    • @testdrivehero
      @testdrivehero  Před 10 měsíci

      Well, I'm partially agree, but not at all.
      The car stock has great handling since start.
      No need to lower it, that's true, and the car is not lowered.
      Just have a replace on the old bushings to brand new and that make the real difference, also that bushings are bit hard than the stock ones. And trust me, you can feel the improve from the old and worn bushings to the new Strongflex on it.
      Just replacing the suspension and not doing the same with the old bushings is not the way.
      The real and good way is to replace both to have real upgrade on dynamic.

    • @Druze_Tito
      @Druze_Tito Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@testdrivehero Well, I was considering that all bushing will be in a good condition, not damaged. They don't need to be anything else but rubber. Replacing the upper control arm bushings with PU will create too much noise in the cabin while riding over harsh road. I know that first hand - replaced them back with OEM bushings. Front suspension - control arm and torque rod, both replaced with PU bushings and the result is more direct steering and most importantly - they will never get torn again. I am driving them for 5 years no sign of wear on them. But the real upgrade on the suspension comes not from stiffening the bushings, which are designed to provide more compliance, but from upgrading the actual performing parts like the anti-roll bar and the shock. Both of which will not ruin the comfort, but will provide much better handling, especially at higher speeds. I have the setup and I know firsthand how it affected the ride. I also had a strut bar at first before adding stiffer ARBs. It provided sharp steering alone. But in combination with the stiffer ARB in the front the ride became bumpy and unpredictable, to a point it was scary. So I got rid of the strut bar completely. In my opinion the car should came from factory with stiffer ARBs as they dont ruin the comfort but improve on the handling, a lot.

    • @testdrivehero
      @testdrivehero  Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@Druze_Tito Yes, I understand you :)
      I was talking about people who put expensive coilovers on old cars with the same bushings from factory.
      Thank you SO MUCH for your input man!
      P.S: In fact, I prefer first of all make an upgrade on the anti-roll bar but you really have to know which one, because you can change the handling completely to worse if you aren't taking care! (More understeering or more oversteering)

    • @Druze_Tito
      @Druze_Tito Před 10 měsíci

      @@testdrivehero you're welcome man!
      On the ARBs subject. I don't mean to advertise them, I have Eibach front and rear. They turned out to be great. Rear on middle stiffness setting (there are 3 holes).
      To be completely informative. I have Bilstein B6 with factory springs.These shocks were pretty stiff for some time, maybe good 6 months of driving over bumpy roads to get them to soften up. Now they sound sophisticated over bumps, just like the factory ones did. (I had KYB twin-tube standard shocks for a year and they were pretty loud over bumps, not even close to OEM replacement level). PU bushings (only the mentioned two locations in the front) from Siberian Bushings (they are a shore hardness between ordinary PU bushings and rubber and their design is direct replacement for the factory bushing in terms of installation). I also have lighter Alu rims with a wider stance (different, bigger negative ET from factory, sitting further out a little bit, but also can be felt in steering giving the car a little better planted feeling).
      P.S. - Another IS200 owner, a friend of mine, drove my is200 with the mentioned setup and he was amazed how much better the handling is compared to his is200 which is stock. Also, another friend from the US with an is300 bought the same ARBs by my suggestion and he is super satisfied with the upgrade. I wish Eibach would sponsor me for advertising their great product, cause it's so easy to recommend! lol
