For anyone wondering why they could hear radio frequencies:
They setup their power cables and signal cable(s) parallel to each other.
The magnetic field around a wire with electricity is normal to the current, around it counter clockwise to it's direction. If you place a signal cable that us also normal to that magnetic field, it will begin to pick up radio frequencies (anywhere from 3kHz to 300GHz).
    Especially, they made an antenna.
How to avoid this? Simple, run cables perpendicular to each other so the signal wires are unaffected by the magnetic field of the power wires.

My chain goes like this... In front of the amp: Guitar --> Crybaby Wah --> MXR EVH Phase 90 --> Amp. In the effects loop: MXR 10 Band EQ (for boosting mids for solos) --> TC Electronic Corona Chorus --> MXR Smart Gate --> BOSS DD3 Delay. Occasionally, I will throw in my old BOSS PS-5 Super Shifter for harmony effects, before the Chorus. The amp is an EVH 5150iii 2x12 combo with built-in reverb.

Love the video! Thanks for validating my signal chain choices. I just built a 24 inch with a Phoenix PS and actual two selectable signal chains based on the distortion pedal guitar combo. It took time to get everything compatible and its still in an evolutionary stage, but the flexibility is a pure pleasure to have at your feet! One tip For eliminating hum and noise problems. I use an Isolated, Surge protected, and filtered, 20 amp power strip designed for computer switching gear and plug all amps and power supplies into this strip.Three amps on at once and no conflict or detectable noise. Remember the old "...when EF Hutton speaks, people listen" commercials? Brian is the same in the pedal world. If Brian Wampler says it works better here than there....just believe him. While you're concerned you have too many red pedals on your board, he's thinking on a circuit level. Inside Brian's mind is something like this *this pedal has a 4K resister on the buffer while this one has a 3K, which will give me more of a lowpass filtering for the clean signal, but this one has a diode on the return....*

You have to love the JHS circuits. Their line is tops in my book. Brian was drawn to the good stuff. Nice vid. I love my JHS Calhoun as a grunty gritty overdrive/distortion and a nice fuzz with bias control. Second is the JHS Double Barrel V4. That drive does all my low to mid overdrive with so many possibilities. Blend and two stages on both the Moonshine and Morning Glory, with order switching.

07:00 - 09:30, you may not have these RF issues show up in other locations. If the pedal is sensitive and de-modulates the RF for the carrier frequency of this radio station and not others, the RF issue will only show up where there is a strong radio station of a small frequency range. You might consider re-introducing the Nobles back into the rig in another location and see if it's still there. Cool video!

  • @TheBrunoleocoelho
    @TheBrunoleocoelho Před 4 lety +1

I've already have had problems with radio signals like you at 7:10! It happened in 2010. My band was invited to play somewhere at 4th level in a building. So in the afternoon during sound check, in the middle a song when I stepped on wah-wah pedal to solo, a radio narrator sounded in my amplifier. Hahaha! The only solution was to play without wah pedal that night.
Probably the wah pedal worked as a radio tuner and my guitar like a antenna. The wah was a Onerr Fat Boy (same pedal as Tech21 Killer Wail, both manufactured here in Brazil by Onerr).
The sum of frequencies of pedals can reach radio frequencies levels. Also, stack of overdrives and delays can be merge to generate some waves similar to radio frequencies, causing interference. I don't know exactly, but I think the amplifier may be some part on the problem.

I love Brian's slight disregard for the fit and finish of your stash as he bumps them into other pedals and your shelf. I'm that way with my stuff so I know it can cause nicks and dings... but I wouldn't mess with someone else's gear like that lol. Also, when talking about the rare 90's Nobels, Brian seemed to smoothly pop a plastic piece off... Maybe battery compartment? Maybe some little test of his to confirm the 90's model? Maybe that didn't even happen... Maybe it was just more banging stuff around and pulling pieces off of stuff ;)

Aww I wish Brian would’ve put the wash back in after it was established that the radio was being picked up by the Nobels. I was excited to hear it with his style
Edit: All On has never sounded so good!

You should do a video on the new PRS strings and cables man

More comments! Brian talked about the engineering vernacular for chewy. I always thought chewy felt like your pick was digging through sand in order to strike the buried string (buried in sand). Putting a resistor before the clipping would create that "Freddy Kreuger nightmare/running in marshmallows" feel that is chewy.

I think Brian’s voice and style of talking is pretty signature.
He should start doing stand ups.
Like really step on it lol.
    Get it??
like we step on his pedals.

"Bucket Brigade" is better to understand from the German word: "Eimerkettenbaustein" "bucket chain brick". So I understand that is a chain of delaying stages and was made in the analog area with the usable parts in electronic. Nice Video with Brian! Thanks!

Real nice video! Loved the sounds and the various distortions/overdrives/fuzzes. One question, though - why are all those pedals moving when you touch the footswitches? Is the velcro not gripping? That would drive me crazy.

What’s funny is that my pedal board isn’t too far off from the one you guys built... and I play praise and worship music lol! Volume pedal, buffer, Compressor, then fuzz, then Two distortion pedals, then an overdrive into my amp. EQ, Reverb and Delay in my FX Loop. Do I stack them at church? Hell yes... always.

You need to make a pedal board with all the common brands you always see in the shops not boutique or 25 year old pedals: Boss, Maxon, Dunlop, MXR, Electro-Harmonix, Ibanez, etc.
