Residents in the tiny floating community of Galilee Harbor in Sausalito are facing real-world challenges to its cherished way of life. Itay Hod reports. (6-2-23)
Lived on Liberty Dock for 20 years. Has it s challenges for sure. But the Cormorants and the coots and the waterfoul being your neighbors is special. Even the once in a while sea lion who would try to hijack your access float to your front door.
Interesting. The developers want to build on the wetlands but the BCDC for years legally harrassed us for living on the docks paying taxes and sewer and garbage handling fees telling us that we were the ones damaging the bay. Not the acres of fill for the OAK HILLS MALL in Novato.
Why would anyone ever consider a storage facility on the Sausalito waterfront? That is pretty much the last business anyone needs down here. A place to store unused excess junk. What a crazy stupid idea. This has always been a great area to visit and enjoy by foot, bicycle or boat. Do not ruin it.
This community was created with lot of hard work from a lot of self-less people to give others a secure place to live and work. And now, without threat of eviction (since the community owns the property), the major complaint is loss of the "view"? I am disappointed by this. You folks need to re-think your optics on this. Seriously.
A storage facility on the waterfront??? Not the best use of the land. That said, Galilee is not as self sustaining as this report insinuates. Taxpayers gave plenty of $$$ so that these few could live this ideal life, Having a powerful Marin County supervisor in your midst does wonders for a "community of artists". A little appreciation for those who have supported you (the Marin taxpayer) would be nice.
They have every right to live in a place they own. I don't get what you're talking about. Perhaps you have them confused with the community anchored in nearby Richardson Bay?
uhhh I had to get like 120k in college debt. on order to get a project manger tech job that pays me 150k a year. Took me 8 years to get to this level, and i currently pay $4000 a month for an apartment downtown. I drive a tesla. These people need a reality check and to get a job imo. Like im busting my ass, and theyre not really contributing to society. Glad this craziness is gonna come to an end. Good riddance
@@Me97202 No, it's not. Marin taxpayers "gave" this "community" a crap load of $$ to maintain this "lifestyle". Do you honestly think the residents paid for the substantial infrastructure & improvements? This, while anchor outs who took nothing from the County had their homes crushed & got tents in a parking lot from the County. Messed up values in Marin.
The doors are never locked? Let's advertise that on TV, what could possibly go wrong?
Doors never locked. Noted.
Everybody that lives there knows everybody else, so a land assault is too risky.
We shall attack by sea.
The bros in Oakland welcome unlocked doors .
Totally irresponsible journalist. Wtf!
I love that they live in harmony 💪🏽💐 leave them alone
Progress is unstoppable.
We need the space for the increasing illegal population coming over the border.

I know about that afternoon sunlight too back in half moon bay my dad and I skipped on the rocks in that sunlight felt great 🌞
The $$$ vultures are circling .
Nothing good ever lasts😢
This is definitely not a one-sided biased news story.

Got to worry about sharks, coastguards and sideshow
Developer are not here for charity. They have investors to answer to.
Good for them! It looks Soooooooo nice! I would quit my job get a simple job for a simple life!😊
sounds like covenants or red lining with a twist of magicalness
Question.. where in the heck does the sewage go ???? All those boats must dump their sewage somewhere?? Polluting the water ????
There's sewage pipes to shore.
Storage??!!😡
there must be bigger problems than this in the bay area. 😌
Pure NIMBYs (only for them)

Heads up, you sound like you're completely full of it.
The bay area is always crashing with goverment control.
You're not entitled to live anywhere. These people are the problem!

That’s a pretty narrow minded viewpoint.
