    I'm very glad that you guys were able to have a very postive experience in Walla Walla, i do want to warn people to please be cautious while being here. I'm a afro-latino student that goes to Whitman. I have been here for about 5 years and have had the worse experience being here due to a large amount of racism from both the student body and people from the town. These issues have ranged from being called racial slurs to threats on my physical safety. If it weren't for me being so close to finishing my degree i wouldn't live here. Again not wanting to sour or ruin your experience coming here ( or anyone else considering coming here) but again just be careful many people here do not have the best of intentions. Love you all and be safe ❤️.

      Yep, there was a time not so long ago back in the 70s & 80s when the Moose Lodge in Walla Walla would not allow Blacks into their establishment, also a Restaurant called the Red Apple which used to be where the Main St. restaurant Bacon and Eggs is now located.

      @@beegpink-johnson6344Yup. That's what it is.
      Also, the Red Apple was a 24-hour diner with a bar in back. In it's day, it was popular for high-schoolers to congregate in the wee hours to plan the after hours party, which often ended up in a wheat field or up in the blue mountains. Mexican, Black, Korean, etc. were among many patrons that frequented the Red Apple. There was nothing racist about the place. I can't speak for the Moose Lodge as I've never been in the place.

      My entire Mexican and biracial (Mexican/black) family lives out there. I was born in Walla Walla. Never had a problem dealing with racism. However Whitman College is something else. There was an article written years ago called “Whitman or White Man?”. So, that should say a lot ❤

    I loved this. I am going to Walla Walla. I drink a couple of wines that are made there. I'm from California, but love Washington Wines. Thank you for going everywhere I wanted to go so far. Forks was one I was curious about, but won't be going. Have you been to Sequim yet? You too are beautiful and I really appreciate your representation of us too. God Bless you both, Cheryl

    I lived in Walla Walla for a few years when I went to Whitman College! Sooo glad you had such a good time there, and especially glad that you mentioned the indigenous peoples of the area. I’ll be on the lookout for that video you mentioned at 4:00. It’s such a beautiful area, I’m so happy you both had a good time. Great video!

    College Place and Walla Walla have "merged" to the point that they seem to be the same town now, but College Place is a seperate town which is why, I suppose, Walla Walla University was not mentioned in the video. College Place is between Walla Walla and Whitman Mission.
    Its interesting (maybe only to me) that Walla Walla, being so close in proximity to College Place has developed such a wine industry. College Place is predominately a SDA town where, up until recently, because of the religion's health message, one couldn't find alcohol, tobacco, or caffinated drinks in any store.

    As a biracial gay person, I love living in Walla Walla. I’ve been here since 2020 with my husband, but we’ve been coming since 2015. The wine, the people, and restaurants are all amazing. I’m glad you had a fabulous time in Walla Walla and happy you loved staying at The Wesley.

      I liked Walla Walla better before the wine began to attract tourists. I have to admit that the town has been spruced up quite a bit, and looks great, but it will never be the home I remember from the 70's-80's. It is, however, still a great place to visit.

    Wonderful video and well put together.
    One point about Fort Walla Walla: it's original location was in Wallula where the Walla Walla River empties into the Columbia. Your video mentions the place around 4:50, about half way through. The fort was moved when the McNary Dam was constructed which flooded the area.

    Wow I just found your channel from the CZcams algorithm and I'm already a huge fan!
    It's really cool to see the PNW being explored from a black perspective, since I grew up in Monroe WA, which had basically 0 black people living there, so I never got to see that perspective at all!
    Some people assume that because the PNW overall has a very small percentage of black people living there, that it's therefore racist and a hostile environment for black people, which from what I've seen, is not true at all!
    But obviously you 2 would have a more accurate perspective on that than I would!

    That’s such a weird name to give a city buts it’s great 😂

    • @TravelingWhileBlack1
      @TravelingWhileBlack1  Před měsícem +1

      No doubt on the surface it does come off as a weird name until you consider the context of where it comes from. The city is named after the local tribe that occupied the area (The Waluulapam). It follows a confusing historical trend of our government naming city’s after the people they stole the land from. Check out our channel in a couple of weeks when will release our episode on another city that is named after the former tribe that previously occupied the land it’s built on; Cheyenne, Wyoming. Thanks for watching and supporting!

    It's been really nice to run into your channel. I'm not sure I'm ready to up and move to any of these places but I enjoy having the smaller towns of Washington state reviewed. Even though I'm an average older white guy, I wouldn't want to move anywhere that wasn't welcoming to Black people. Thanks!

    Yo, what was the hotels 420 policy cause I like to get down and blaze my woods on the reg. Also, if they told you you can't blaze, did you consider it might be because you're black?

    • @TravelingWhileBlack1
      @TravelingWhileBlack1  Před měsícem

      This is honestly a good question. I can say that most of the hotels we stay at have a zero smoking policy on the property. Tbh the only hotels we’ve seen that we see would allow smoking cannabis on property are in Portland, Oregon. Their bud culture seems more apart of their hospitality, travel and tourism industries. In Washington it really doesn’t feel like that’s the case. But this question makes us think perhaps we should do a series in the future about PNW cannabis tourism. Or even better that might be a great channel for you start…we’d subscribe 😂
