    Dry nice! A few months ago I bought a D2 and am soon to start on small changes after I finish basic bits of service ( new brake discs, pads, bodywork repairs , under neath anti rust etc). Fun car, not my daily … really love the old school nature!

    If you want wide angle propshafts I highly recommend Gwyn Lewis 4x4 in Wales. They are excellent and very tough.
    Lovely Disco, I am currently restoring a 3.9i.

    Very nice Disco! I was looking for one here in California but only found really expensive, over built or basket cases. Then I found a 1966 Series 2A that was still being used on a cattle ranch. It is a hobby car/ work in progress.
    Cheers

    Great video cobber!
    What you have done to the old rig looks great, and the rest will just make it perform so much better.
    Though if i may... with regards to the loss of power after adding the larger tyres... If you were to swap out the transfer case for one out of a Defender, you would then have the correct ratio in the final drive to push those big tyres. It would also release a lot of stress from the over all drive train.
    Love what your doing.
    Cheers for sharing.

      Thank you for the suggestion. The TB is already from a Defender (was on there before I got the car), but it still needs a bit of help. I would also like a lower ratio in low range

    Great video mate! I have a 2 inch on the front and 2.5 on the rear but I’m having some kind of vibration issue now. The fun job of tracking it down, it’s either propshaft or transfer box.

    • @TheUntraveledPath
      @TheUntraveledPath  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It's probably the driveshafts. To be honest i don't really pay attention to vibrations unless its is something too bad which could lead to other problems.

    Originally designed in Santana Motors in Spain, Land Rover denied them to build it and after they splitted, Discovery 1 appeared "by surprise" with Land Rover brand. A miracle.

    Hey brother read through this forum I posted on the Driveline angles. First off your front DS is twisting as its straight on one side and angled at the other; being unable to adjust to pinon angle you should have a Double Cardon DS on the front, or with some welding you can clock your Hubs for caster.
    The rear DS angles are also way off and not matching. I listed some exhaust flanges you can use to space the arms backwards to get them to match after removing the Flex. Mismatched angles makes the DS twist and vibrate like hell! Found out when I ditched the Flex.

    • @TheUntraveledPath
      @TheUntraveledPath  Před 9 měsíci

      Thank you for the suggestion! To be honest it doesn't vibrate badly. It does vibrate a bit but most of it is from the tires. I will definitely get some rear arms soon though to complete the rear.

    Absolutely lovely Landy! I'm with you on this vs a Japnese 4x4. Much more interesting and rewarding to drive. I've owned a sries 3 109" Safari 6 cylinde statin wagon ( best vehicle ever), a sries 2a 88" with a chevy 2.5l 4 cylinde ( terrible, don't convert a lndy) and a 110 Defende td5 county station wagon (briliant!) I will get a disco like yours one day, that is a certainty. Well done and thank you for your great channel.

    Great idea do ad VNT Turbo. Change the intercooler along with exhaust manifold, only than you will fully gain power thanks to air flow. But don`t cross 1.5 boost barrier, otherwise some of the rubber gaskets can give up :)

    Poly' bushes aren't really as greet (for a 4x4) as some people think they are.
    They were originally produced for sportscars, to help prevent suspension components from moving in unintended directions.
    A sportscar doesn't have a lot of suspension travel to begin with so parts tend not to need to twist or move as the suspension articulates.
    On a solid-axle 4x4, such as a Disco' when the suspension articulates the axle is trying to twist the radius-arms and poly bushes will actually hinder that.
    Also, while it's true that rubber bushes wear and go soft, poly bushes tend to split and crumble when they get old, especially when used on a 4x4.
    I think a lot of people just get sucked into buying poly bushes.
    They need new bushes so they figure they might as well "upgrade" their vehicle at the same time... so they buy poly bushes.
    A smart person should look at how each suspension component moves and then ONLY fit poly bushes in places where they'll yield a benefit.
    On a D1, for example, it might be a good idea to fit poly bushes to the front of the A-frame, where it attaches to the chassis, to reduce lateral play.
    For parts such as the radius arms, the ARBs, or where the A-frame bolts to the axle, rubber bushes will be better because they'll allow more twisting.

    Nice Video, as said under another video: you got me somewhat hooked to those 300tdi discos and i am looking for them since months in and around germany (more for fun, just doesn't want to spend the money this year). Do you still have your Land Cruiser if you love this D1 so much?
    I am running 255/85R16 on my BJ70 SWB Land Cruiser, a change to that size is maybe a cheaper solution to your rubbing Problem with the 285s (and a tiny bit taller as well).

    • @TheUntraveledPath
      @TheUntraveledPath  Před 9 měsíci

    • @Kris-jk9mq

      Bigger tires effectively regears any vehicle. To correct this and get OEM powerband back, regearing the TrasferCase (swapping to defender) or the higher geared Differentials is needed. People often opt for DIFF's and add lockers while doing so.
      Even my V8 Disco is slower after larger tires without my foot to the floor. Not that it was EVER very fast to start with..

  • @MrGlamdisco

    Hello beautiful Discovery 1! Do you mount HM4X4 +6cm springs correct? I didn't understand what other lifts you mount. Do you have body lifts? Or maybe you cut arches? I fit a Terrafirma +5cm medium duty + 2.5cm lift under the spring plate +1cm ring above the spring which blocks vibrations! (ANR2938)

    • @TheUntraveledPath
      @TheUntraveledPath  Před 6 měsíci

      Thank you! Yes, they are 6cm HM 4x4 for a Defender. Because they are for a lighter defender 90, the rear was a bit lower than the front so I added 2 inch lift blocks. To get more flex I have long TJM Nissan Patrol shocks in the rear.

    • @captarmour

      2 years ago I commented about Portals on race trucks, most comments gave good reasons why they are not used, 2 years later they are beginning to be used...besides massive ground clearance increase under the diff, they allow better suspension and drive train angles. probably in 20+ years we may look back and wonder why we didnt all have for serious offroaders...that said the price makes it prohibitive, hopefully demand/supply may make them more reasonable.
      In the meantime if every offroader talks about wanting them we may build some momentum...my 2 cents
