As someone who has driven pickups exclusively for the last 30 years, you will never go wrong with a Toyota in the light-duty segment. I've had Ford, RAM, Chevy and will pick Toyota every day of the week. Find a 10-year-old Tacoma or Tundra that's been looked after and you won't be sorry.
That gate latch is OK to keep the gate closed, but it is not secure. All you need to do is put a crescent wrench on the upper latch and bend it out of the way.
His property is completely open, the gate just keeps the honest man out. If you push past that point you can't say you didn't see it and he can act accordingly.

You can also put up another post where the gate opens to and put another latch there but backwards. That way you don't need that rock there and you can even lock it open if you wanted to (not sure why you would need to). But it would also look cleaner. 🐾🐾

I caution you on any Explorer Sport Trac - the bed shackles Crack and you won't be able to haul anything. What Sean didn't tell you is those motors run forever with proper maintenance. I've had 4 of the late 90's and early 00's Explorer's - 300k easily if you do the scheduled maintenance. Team Diana on the olives - don't knock it until you try it Eric.

We have a 2010 Sport Trac. It's our daily driver. Has about 190k miles. Runs perfectly. Looks brand new. There's nothing wrong with these trucks or the engine if you find one that was taken care of.

I know it’s not in your budget, but we tow a Jeep Gladiator truck behind our motorhome. It’s the Rubicon edition with the diesel engine (23-27 MPG). It’s also a convertible, one of the features you mentioned liking about the Tracker. Maybe used ones will become more available in the future. Happy shopping!

It is valve slap it happens when cars get old if it goes away when warm or on gass that is what it is. Just like your tracker. The valves tap the spring and it makes a tick. If it was a timing you would have diffrent symptoms. Do you really think that it is the timing is the prolbem on the tracker and the truck. If you want no ticking your gonna need low mile vechele. I'd look into a new mechanic.. take an odb with you and do your own diagnosis before you buy something and not take someone's opinion without them even being their physically.
Eric...if you can find a reasonable priced Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon older models....look at the ones that have the inline 5 cylinder 3.5 or 3.7 liter (newer models). Ive owned a 2005 for over 6 years and really like the reliability and the simple motors...easy to access and work on. They arent perfect but sure does what I need it to do....certainly worth a look....
Eric, FYI, we had a SportTrac and loved it except that if you plan on renting equipment that you need to tow with it, no one will rent to you and allow you to tow rented equipment with it (uHaul, home depot, lowes, etc). Ask me how I know. It has to do with a law suit many years ago.

Consider a Chevy Trailblazer or the pickup version of it. I bought a 2008 4X4 V8 ($3000) five years ago with 180k miles on it. It has 226k on it now, still going strong, zero issues. Other than maintenance, tires hoses, belts, fluids...which I always do on a used vehicle. I've only put an OXY Sensor on it. That's been my only repair. Best used vehicle I've ever owned. I only buy American.
You actually can tow a pickup. There just are few available that flat tow. Some Dodge Rams are towable but they may be too heavy. Some old Ford Rangers can also be flat towable. Ask your friend Paul to look for a small truck for you. Unfortunately Toyotas, Nissans, and Honda trucks cannot be flat towed. However, a small truck will give you the utility without the truck size. You will probably still need to find a small tow vechile though.

You might want to reconsider the location of that metal flagpole that's right next to your propane tank because it might attract lightning.
pole won't attract lightning, it isn't grounded. Lightning strikes tall things in an effort to get to ground quicker. No ground, no lightning.
