    I practice Muay Thai and do watch other MA as well. Important to absorb what's useful and relevant to yourself and incorporate them into your arsenal. But Aikido never fails to amuse me as it is just tooooo elegant and smooth to be realistic,lol! This Tissier guy in the video sounds like a French dude.

    Do you practice aikido regularly? If so what form? I practice Yoshinkan (also known as the hard style) and it is not easy but nothing worth doing should be easy! My advice is that it is not for you to teach, it is for others to understand.. everyone is slightly different in their annotomical movements but the principals are just the same...this is why it is based on self improvement rather than 'smashing someone' in the face, I love it, People don't find Aikido.. Aikido finds people..(carried on

    Yes I understand what you mean. The flowy style of aikido is unrealistic in that on the mat, you are taught to adapt to the defense in order to save yourself, whereas in real life the attackers not gonna do that. In reality they are going to get hurt, unless they are high level martial artist, in which case I think they are good enough not to get hurt as they are more trained in balance etc. Tissier is French. This is the first vid I've seen where he's talking in english.The flowy style teaches

    (continued) "is it you that finds aikido, or is aikido that finds a place in your heart?", if someone have never heard of it, never tried it how can it already be in their heart? does that make sense my fellow aikidoka?

  • @salsalover69laters
    @salsalover69laters Před 11 lety

    principles, so you understand how to lead someone when they are off balance. To be honest seagals movie style is more realistic in real life, as when he does irimi nage (what looks like a arm bar to the neck) its more straight and on a line, rather than in practice where the attacker runs around you and then into your arm... but actually its hard to do what seagal does without understanding the priciples. A beginner in aikido is never gonna pull that off... its too fast an attack

    In reality, if learning MA for defence only I think it would be better to learn krav maga than aikido at first, cause it uses so many techniques from different MAs. And then you can keep going in aikido after that initial training... but that's just a 'defence' point of view...

  • @GameSecretClan
    @GameSecretClan Před 11 lety

    If you want a system that garantees total self defence is: buy a gun !!! because there is no better martial arts system, you need to practice because you like it and want to express yourself

    The type of attacks you learn in aikido are what a highly trained karateka would launch, where their line of attack is the best for making defence difficult. I.e. they attack without easy opening for counter attack... whether a grab, punch, kife thrust or sword thrust... or side grab, hook punch/chop, kife or sword slash... I've learned how open you are when attacking with the wrong angles... sensei could kick me from kneeling position... sawari waza

    for one reason he doesn't let go is that the technique won't work, but if you think in a real fight your opponent/ assailant is committed to his attack so there for the technique will work.

  • @MrAntonbomb
    @MrAntonbomb Před 11 lety

    if you don't have a good mentality, say you are mentally attached to being physically more 'powerfull' than an opponent then you can never grab an understanding..if you can't relax it won't work... if you can't move your fee, it won't work, if you can't 'blend' and feel your ukeis body movements then it wont work! There is a good old Ueshiba saying of "Aikido works, Aikido does not work for you"

  • @Empiricist14

    It just astounds me how ignorant how people behind a computer screen can be. I was once skeptical of Aikido. It is purely defence with some striking techniques and more. I believe that ignorance of people is just because they don't understand Aikido. The techniques actually work. I prefer Aikido to any other Martial Art I've ever done.

  • @MrAntonbomb
    @MrAntonbomb Před 11 lety

    your english is pretty good my friend, i think you miss understood what i meant... Aikido is not your regular martail art, you must learn to travel in two directions at once, it's complicated... yes I chose aikido out of preference but I had absolutely no knowledge of aikido untill i started, it is like a bug, a good illness that you catch. Like addrenilin from falling from a great height and surviving :) it isn't suited to everyone but unless you try it then you don't know, so the question is..

  • @TheMartialKing
    @TheMartialKing Před 11 lety

    And the fact that Aikido practitioners wear the "skirt" shows that kicking is not a big part of their style.

    I have been doing a form of aikido from 11 years old Im now 36. The form I do is very traditional, I have been teaching for 4 years now. and you are wrong aikido don't find people, It either lives in there heart and they want to do it or they don't. You can not forced them. Its a chosen choice by there own human preference

    @salsalover69laters Před 11 lety

    Well aikido does not require strength, so unlike other MA's you get better as you get older rather than loose your ability, cause the older you are the better you have muscle learned the techniques... but there's also a 'personality' reason... being able to defend yourself and not kill the other person, although that I think takes years and years of practice.. but simple things like, your defence is always based on the guy behind you, not trading blows with the guy you already see, many others

  • @salsalover69laters
    @salsalover69laters Před 11 lety

    Not really, my instrucors used to be able to kick me pretty well in the 'skirt' lol. But they were dan ranked in karate as well. But you're right, OSensei never taught kicks or defences to kicks (although many of his students did because they were karateka before aikido), cause kicking isn't practical in sword fighting. I have nothing against people who do other arts along as aikido. My first sensei if I went to punch him from the wrong angle he's say nah, I don't need aikido, and kick me lol

  • @TheMartialKing
    @TheMartialKing Před 11 lety +1

    It looks more like dancing than sparring. Chereographed garbage.like to see these guys do it in real time against fighters from other arts. still unconvinced abt Aikido.

  • @dwrabauke
    @dwrabauke Před 10 lety +1

    dancing? you have no idea how much nikyo and ikkyo can hurt you if you move wrong. being slow has a purpose here. if he moved fast it would be a one time demonstration because he would destroy that uke. :)

  • @MrAntonbomb
    @MrAntonbomb Před 11 lety

    you must understand the basics before you can apply a 'finishig move'.. Christian Tisseir is a true Master, there are many finishing moves in aikido but frankly i'd prefer to not seriously harm someone for trying to hurt me, ikkyo and into a throw or control to the floor.. if they wish to come back again i put them on their backside again, only injur if it is completely necessary

  • @TheMartialKing
    @TheMartialKing Před 11 lety

    Like i mentioned earlier,its important & increasingly common for MAtists to pick up techniques from other arts as well. my impression is that many who learn Aikido thereafter is becoz they are getting on in age. clearly Aikido is far from being a complete art.

  • @TheMartialKing
    @TheMartialKing Před 11 lety

    Don't waste my time,dude !I have seen countless videos of other arts who are heads and shoulders above Aikido in realism.

  • @MATISSMPAM

    Aikido es un concepto, no es solamente un arte para golpear. Probablemente no sea el mejor arte para pelear, hay mejores. Hice bjj y me parecio mucho mas efectivo. Pero cuando uno hace aikido vuelve a su casa tranquilo y no violento.
    Creo que es un concepto aplicable a otras artes marciales, al que esta bueno llegar despues de dominar otro arte.

    So, if you want just to defend your self totaly, buy a gun. And if you are not a thug, you will not use it against an aikido fighter. You will not fight, you would use the gun just in case of assault or something. To fight bare handed with any fighter, you dont need to practice self defence against guns. My point is: people gives to much importance for things that are not that important at all... The best thing you do is learn to defend your self bare handed, than in the future against gun etc

  • @salsalover69laters
    @salsalover69laters Před 11 lety

    But aikido is just a defensive martial art. If someone attackes you and you use muy thai to defend yourself? Yep, I think that is just as effective as aikido... and in a match fight aikido is useless as you don't practice attacks, just defence. Also, you don't learn to take a hit in aikido, so in a match you're gonna get awful surprised when your too slow in your aikido and get a knee or hard kick to the head lol. So in a match aikido isn't enough by a long shot.

    That was not my point. I sad that, because people are debating wich style is better, I mean there is no sucj thing as a better style and it is pointless to train only for self defence for the majority of people. Today, people are coward, if you beat him today, tomorow he will come with 10 guys over you, if you kick their ass, next day they come with guns and kill you or some body of your family. This is why I thing self defense against gun is good to learn, but it is not the most important thing
