This guy is an example for people who believe in their dreams. What was the chance that this guy born in Japan would become a famous yoddler in german language. But he believed in himself, he learned himself yodle by listening records and when he had the opportunity to go in Europe, he took his chance and was remarked by Franzl Lang, his idol, who help him becoming a yoddle artist. The following is a successful career in the way he choose and he is known a wellknown artist. Congratulation to him to believe in his dream. I am sure some people told him that he was a fool, but he never stopped believing.

I'm Japanese and I watched his documentaly tv show.
When he was young boy,He heard german yodel song.
He liked the positive sound.
He always practice the yodel voice and his parent said what's wrong with your voice? lol
Apparently he met a German Yodler who recognized his talent and offered to help him develop it. I can also imagine how hard it must be for Japanese to drop their accent since our languages are so vastly different that there are some tones which don't even exist in the respective other one - and Yodeling relies on quite many of them.

I think what makes this song a hit, beyond the hilarious mix of a Japanese essentially travelling half around the globe to perform what is German folk singing,
is that it's a simple song, with no deeper meaning, beyond just being happy and singing about doing something that makes oneself and others happy. How could anyone not enjoy that?

Although I'm from Northern Germany and I'm not all that fond of South German/Bavaro-Austrian stuff and yodeling, I respect it as a traditional art form. And Mr. Ishii masters it with ease.
NorthSea 1981 I couldn’t agree more. My ancestors came from southern Germany and Switzerland, and I am in love with this kind of culture/music. I’ve read a lot about northern Germany in my history classes and my German classes. It really amazed me hearing this song.

To provide a contrast: This is a folklore group from Northern Germany, from the Lüneburg Heath area located between Hamburg and Bremen. This was recorded during an international folklore festival in Finland. This is authentic stuff.
The traditional folk costumes and the dialect presented in this video are very different from the overall German stereotype- which is, alas, mostly based on Bavarian/Austrian stereotypes that are prevalent in the Anglosphere.
There is so much more to Germany than Bavaria, which is only a fracture of German folk culture! Germany in itself is internally very diverse, which often makes it quite difficult to represent internationally in a folksy way.

Thanks for that link... You are right, we only hear the Alpine stuff here in the Anglosphere. It is just as common for people here to confuse Swiss with Bavarian/Austrian (and even worse, many don't know the difference between Swedish and Swiss!). Some of my ancestors were from Hanover but I am more familiar with the Alpine stuff - and Scandinavian - so to me your link sounds halfway between the Alpine and Scandinavian (and English - did I hear a bit of 'The Grand Old Duke' near the beginning?). Elsewhere I heard some music from Schleswig-Holstein that is even closer, it's almost Danish. Ethnomusicology is interesting!

Ich bin übrigens ein Deutscher und das Jodeln gehört nicht gerade zu meinen Spezialfähigkeiten. Des Weiteren solltest du dringend an deinen Deutsch-Kenntnissen arbeiten, denn deinen Text musste ich zwei Mal lesen, um ihn zu verstehen.
