This historic hymn takes me to the welsh mining villages of Wales, we are singing it as our final hymn at St Marys Church, in the parish of Handsworth, Birmingham, U.K. this 3rd of Lent Sunday March 15th 2020. Thank you for the memories.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Tonight (April 12), I attended a wedding at my church. We sang this as the Hymn of the Day. It is #618 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.
Lost a good friend recently and this was sung at funeral. I’ll always remember him by this. As I left, I saw a beautiful rainbow which actually “ended” where his house is. So moving, it was like his soul leaving. RIP GD.

One of my favourite hymns. Always give it a good belt at my Anglican Church then I ask my Welsh friends if we (the English) did alright. They can never manage to say "yes" ha ha. Gotta love em.

I grew up Baptist in the South. So many songs they borrowed from the Anglicans. Lovely.
This is not an Anglican hymn. It is a Methodist hymn. The melody is Congregationalist.
Three years in beautiful Wales, surrounded by the sounds of male voice choirs, was a spiritual gift to me and my family!

My favorite hymn. They used this in the church last Sunday but changes the words. Same melody but different words. It upset me.

I don't remember. Lol. It might have been. They changed the entire hymn but same melody.
They only wrote new lyrics using the same melody.
