- Welcome back Chris the Cop reacting to the iconic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Today Chris talks about the differences and similarities between this installment of GTA and real-life history from drugs to gangs and how it slightly shines a light on what the 80s and 90s were like in Los Angeles and how Hollywood glamorized the drug trade and its effects. Chris also mentioned how he would want to see a remake of San Andreas too, do you agree with him?
Taking place in an open world, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas features action and adventure elements mixed in with stealth elements. Similar to the previous two titles in the series, the core gameplay consists of elements like third-person shooters and driving games, allowing players to maneuver around an open world, which is quite large. Designed in an open, non-linear environment, this game allows players to explore and select how they want to play it. It is not essential for playing the game to complete storyline missions in order to unlock certain cities and content. However, the player can do them at their leisure.

@Marlo Kartel So? I'm not gonna act like Floyd was a saint because he wasn't, Every cop in Chauvin's trial said having his knee on his neck for that long wasn't a part of his training and never was. Chauvin also had multiple complaints from multiple districts so he's literally the "crooked cop" that Chris here is talking about. Having a record doesn't mean cops get to do anything under the sun to you.
Also I like how you focus on only one incident I never mentioned George Floyd. Projecting much? Philando Castile? Breonna Taylor? They weren't criminals. What about the woman that was too nervous to remember which damn side her taser and pistol was on her belt even though the whole reason police have them on opposite sides is to prevent that? She didn't even notice the weight difference or color either that even a regular civilian would notice instantly. Once again, the guy she shot was no saint, but a trained officer should instantly know the difference between of the two firearms they're using and a man lost his life because a cop made an oopsie.
@Marlo Kartel It's not their job to know his health problems. It's their job to not do something that against training. All black people want in the US is equality and to not get shot unnecessarily by people that are supposed to protect them. Yes there are also problems that need to be fixed in the inner cities, but crooked cops don't need to be exacerbating it. And I don't know what the fuck that whole second half was considering I'm talking strictly about the US now and nothing else in Europe, the Balkans or whatever. Just because Serbia was fucked up towards Africans doesn't mean that the US weren't as well and we're not gonna ignore what happened to Native Americans as well, BUT I don't have all day to argue with a conspiracy theorist, so have a good one. It's always refreshing to hear people talk about actual stuff that happens in gangs. Too many people today are too into romantic that hip-hop music and stars are pushing and are too into pro-drug mentalities.
Decriminalizing drugs would help with that
If schools are teaching kids smoking is bad -- despite it being legal, then I say they should be educated equally just as much on the dangers of other recreational drugs.
The issue is that the majority of people tend to identify with counterculture, which is normally what gang culture is as it's against the rest of society. The problem is that instead of following the least harmful tenets, they begin to think gang culture is badass because of the few rappers that made it out but there's still 1000s who haven't.

As a smol Asian kid who got to play GTA:SA and had no idea what gangster culture is, there was a genuine fear whenever I see Ballas hanging around during the early game. I hated knowing that I was gonna get shot at any moment. Now that Im older it hit me, if Rockstar actually wanted to emulate that fear people had to go through in this environment? They succeeded.
Luckily you had not played GTA 3 otherwise St. Mark's Bistro turf would have given you PTSD to the point of exploding your soul

I guess it’s not really Post traumatic stress, but just knowing that something like this can bring up a memory like that, and knowing his actual career and undoubtedly the horrors he’s experienced, I wonder what other seemingly mundane things trigger even worse memories. Man I respect him and the manner in which he practices his profession.

Not because of the public but because of what they have to see.... Especially the first responders.
They deal with stuff the average citizen probably couldn't see in a million years.
EMTs get paid surprisingly poorly, they work long stressful shifts, see traumatizing things regularly. Huge amounts of burnout and PTSD in that field

Years ago my dad had responded to a child abuse call; the guy beat his son with a bamboo backscratcher for correcting him on something he had said wrong.
People always talk about "be nice to retail workers, please be patient, appreciate retail workers!" (which obviously I agree, as a former retail worker that could be ridiculous sometimes) but no one wants to talk about helping officers feel safe contacting a therapist or mental health services for themselves.
Maaan that's so crazy!! My dad told me that exact same story at the 3:00 mark. He worked as a Lieutenant at the California State prison in Los Angeles, and those involved were locked up at his prison. He had to review the crime scene photos and everything. I remember hearing that story for the first time when I was younger and I think he told me it to scare me away from messing with gangs.

A whole family wiped out is both sad and scary, I live in Italy and we had a lot of similar (even worse) stuff happen here in the 80's, thankfully nowdays things have changed (I suppose thats the same in America too given that news of a gunned down family would be all over the internet).

Saints Row 1 and 2 would be really cool to see him react to. Maybe have him talk about the Colombians when the Carnales show up or the Brotherhood and the Boss’s total ruthlessness.
Especially since he talked about how a lot of gangs started out protecting their communities until they feel into crime.

I just want to say that 10 years ago, I was pulled over by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department while riding my bike and there were indeed 3 of them in one car. 2 male sheriffs and 1 female sheriff sitting in the backseat.
First time hearing him. Very interesting to hear from his perspective and how the game echoed the times he was in.. Its also refreshing to see someone in his position liking the game, understanding that it's just a game, unlike some law enforcement, parents, and teachers who went off the deep end about the GTA games when they came out and how they were ruining our children and society. I played the whole series and my friend's children played them when they were teenagers and they turned out just fine.
GTA San Andreas has an awesome soundtrack! Especially the old school gangsta rap on Radio Los Santos!
And the gang gameplay dynamic was so much fun! Doing drive bys and tagging buildings! Needs a remake!

The police actually would drop people off into rival hoods, DJ Pooh who was one of the writers on SA comes from that world so there's a lot of real world elements to it. What's crazy is this still occurs today, and has even been reported in the UK.

1:52 It’s almost like people need to stop stereotyping entire groups of people based on a few bad apples (compared to the size of the whole group, that is). Some people might say “Why not just get rid of bad cops?”. It’s not that simple. You have to have Internal Affairs investigate them, which can take a while. Plus local laws and police labor unions can get in the way, either slowing the investigation down or completely stopping it. And those are just examples as to why it’s not that simple.
You can’t fire a person just because someone told you they’re bad. The accuser might be lying. Meaning if you fire said employee without investigating, you could get sued for wrongful termination even if their accuser isn’t lying. In court, evidence is everything and if you don’t have any evidence to prove their termination wasn’t wrongful, you’re not gonna win the case. What’ll happen as far as I know is either you’ll lose the case or it’ll get thrown out. Either way, it’s like I said: you’re not gonna win. You threw your chances of victory away the moment you decided to fire said employee without having an investigation be performed.

@@CorvusCorone68 It really didn't. Believe it or not San Andreas has one of the largest modding communities for any game period. Even as far back as 2007 a Russian team built an entire game set in an alien planet from San Andreas just to give an example. As for Hot Coffee, we've already had that restored for decades.
