- Here is the first in a series of videos on classic rock drumming. In this part one I show you the equipment I use as well as the techniques I teach for playing this type of music. The books I use are Realistic Rock by Carmine Appice and my own book Advanced Coordination for Drum Set and Hand Percussion (you can purchase this book from me at rickdior@.gmail.com) This video is aimed at beginners so if you are more advanced you might want to skip to part 2. Equipment
The cymbals are old 1960's A Zildjians.
15" Hi hats, 22" ride, 18" crash/ride and 18" crash
The drums are Peavy RSB1's (Radial 1000's)
22" BD, 10", 12",14",16" toms
The microphones I am using are two Neumann U89 overheads and a Shure Beta 52 on the Bass Drum. - Hudba
1:56 So true! I went to a drum camp with Benny Greb and Steve Smith last year and at one point Benny said something I’ll never forget - “If you’re bored, you’re not focused enough”. I try to remind myself of that quote every time I sit behind a kit or a pad. This concept is the key to practice efficiency and respect for the music in my opinion.

Realistic rock is a fantastic book. All my students learn this book first! It's the gold standard, in my opinion. Also Jim Chapins book and Gary Chester new breed which scares half my students. How about Gary Chaffee linear time playing? Love your playing, wisdom and education Rick 👏

Great video and advice! I have the same kit. Pinstripes on top and original Aquarians on bottom. What heads are you using on the bottom? Mine sound good, but yours sound amazing!! I still have extra hardware , lugs, inserts etc if you ever need any. Please send us more videos! Thomas, Mississippi.
