    This is a really great video, as I have a couple of factory refurb Bissels where replacement motors are unobtainium - and one is absurdly loud. I may need to get into there.
    And for those watching, there have been several PC cleaning videos lately on other channels, where when compressed air was forced through the case fans, the fans spun so quickly that the motors burned up. I had no idea. So, it might be a good idea to not allow motors to spin too quickly when cleaning.

    Best video I've seen on many home DYI repairs. Our Bissell just dead stopped. Broken wire exactly as in this video. Soldered up and runs again. The detail how all that parts disassemble is a huge help.

    You have saved my sanity. I tore my vacuum apart because it kept kicking up dust when turned on (we stupidly used it to clean up plaster filth) and I couldn't find where the two rectangle filters went. I have been searching for nearly an hour for my model being torn apart so I could find it. Naturally it came off in one of the first steps so I had to disassemble the whole thing again, but at least the filters are in their proper place again. Thank you!

    Thank you so much for this video dude. I was absolutely losing my mind. Trying to figure out what was wrong with this darn vacuum! Turns out it both needed the filter cleaned, and the belt needed to be replaced! You saved me a heck of a lot of money❤❤❤

    Amazing how my Bissell Powerforce Helix Turbo model 68C71 looks the same on the insides. The powerhead is exactly
    the same design and plugs up ocassionally. It must be taken apart to clear out the rug pieces, hair and dirt debris. The
    tower part has plenty of filtering and must be cleaned out with soap and water on the foam filters and let dry every time
    unlike the ones you got there Brad which someone never did. Amazing how the motor housing was so dirty. My filtering
    set up is designed differently in the tower section so that doesn't happen. Great job showing it working again Brad.

Love the video and the insight it brings, we do need to learn more about the appliances we use, and it it begins with understanding how they work. Great sentiments, and the musical interlude didn't go un-noticed nor did the beautiful salvaged rug.

    The metal fan case usually is just pressed onto the plastic housing, often getting a flat bladed screwdriver in between the edge of the metal fan case and the plastic housing will start to pry the cover off. Once the metal cover is removed you get full access to the impeller fan for cleaning it out. The nut holding the fan on may be a reverse threaded nut, holding the belt spindle with vice grips while undoing the nut should work, and the fan will remove.
    The fans get clogged up like that if the vacuum has been used with the pre-motor filter not in place is someone has it out for cleaning and forgets to put it back in again, all the dirt will go straight from the cyclone separator in the dust cup into the motor fan, and the result is a clogged fan, no airflow through the fan and it overheats the motor. That overheat situation may be what caused the wire to the carbon brush holder to break, and rendered the machine unusable- probably for the best really as it would have had no suction at all in that state and would have continually tripped the thermal cutout.
    The pre motor filtration is pretty poor on these, just a simple sponge filter is not really going to do much for stopping fine dust penetrating it, and the exhaust filter is non user accessible so once that gets clogged its going to cause repeated overheats of the motor.
    Its almost as if Bissell designed it that way so the user would have to chuck it out and buy a new vacuum - built in obsolescence.
    Drivebelts for the brushroll often stretch out over time, getting too slack to drive the brushroll once it encounters the resistance of carpet, and the brushroll will stall out with the belt simply slipping on the motor drive spindle.
    You did a good job on that poor machine though, probably the most attention it's ever had in its life.

    I hate these plastic vacuums lol.. Ive always used a Kirby. They last forever and have way way way more suction than anything on market besides like one other commercial floor cleaner lol.. fully adjustable height and auto transmission. You can buy a clapped out one used and rebuild em for cheap. Family member of mine threw away our G5 because they didnt understand how good it really was lol.. after breaking about 5 other crap ones I ended up getting another Kirby lol..they are tanks.

      @FloweryThoughts Před 8 měsíci

      I left my mom's working Kirby behind after she passed in 2019. I don't have any rugs so I didn't need it. I tried for 30 days to give it a new home but nobody wanted it because "it's too heavy". She had all the attachments for it and never used 1 of them, just swept the carpets with it. The next occupant got it with the house.

    Decades ago, when I was a younger lad, I was asked to take a Rainbow Vac demo by a friend who'd get a discount on the one he was buying if I agreed. I had the demo guy come to the place where I worked which was an old print shop. The carpet in the front office was so bad that he refused to dirty his shiny new Rainbow vacuum on it.

    • @Fixologist1

      Tear it apart like I did down to the motor level. See if the motor impeller is clogged. Probably something stuck in there, or just covered in too much debris. Might also need to be oiled.

  • @absmyheart
    @absmyheart Před 8 měsíci

    Halfway through your video, watching you wash the filters.
    FYI if you don't want to use so much water, just stick them in a bucket of nice soapy water, squeeze the Living daylights out of them, soap 'em up again, rinse.' em, then Place clean filter in front of your a/c - heat vent in your house to dry them quickly
    Now. Gonna try to tackle the problem of no suction in the old filthy vacuum I found. After a thorough washing of the top part and the collection bin, separator and filter, it still has no suction. I even washed out the hose, but to no avail.
    So, back to your video to see what I can learn
    Edit... well, it looks like it's more than I can bite off into. I probably have inherited the same clogged motor parts that you found when you took it apart, and I'm just not capable of doing things like that. Unfortunately when I take things apart, I could never get them back together LOL so, I still have no section then we'll probably just throw away my machine. It only cost about $56 and it would not be worth it for me to get it serviced by a professional. Thank your figure video I wish I could have learned more, and had the confidence to do what you showed. So thank you anyway
