    Thanks for the comparison. There's definitely a place for some better sandals in my life, but I'd never wear them in the dirt. I don't know how people can do it. The smallest amount of dirt between my foot and the sandal bugs the shit out of me, and yet, it's so easy to scoop up a bunch in one step completely fill the sandal with dirt. (I'm perfectly good with going barefoot in the dirt, though.)

    Good summary, even though I am a recent adopter and highly untypical of the target user. In my prime I was a long distance hill walker, and the lightest, most supportive ankle boot was my choice. Now I am 75, and living near a long beach. I did walk barefoot for a while, but often found the sharp shells, coarse sand and pebbles took their toll, not to mention the odd spider fish buried in the sand offering a three pronged dry painful experience. My spec was a shoe that was lightweight, comfortable, and could cope with sand and sea water, as well as trailwalking

      I start with Salomon Speed cross - good protection, good soles but straps and chafing didn't suit my narrow feet Next Teva Hurracane 2, practical but a bit heavy, and again high strap beneath my ankle was uncomfortable in water when they needed to be really tight or slip off, Eventually research led me to Xero Z-Trail
      Best só far, lightest, comfortable once you have spent some time adjusting straps and amazing grippy soles, Only mini gripes, in that the straps are too long for my narrow feet and not practical to shorten. The velcro heel straps overlap too much, leaving only a a small length fastened which easily comes undone. When wet it is hard to unfasten by the buckle above the instep, which is recommended, and have
      to use the velcro which will quickly wear and lose grip, And then I found this YT, Some great ideas, but alas I cannot
      tolerate a strap between my toes, so apart from the Z Trail do you know of anything that might be ideal,

    I recently purchased Earth Runners. The end of the strap goes toward the front of my foot rather than facing the back like yours - they just look so kiddy wampus. This is how they came. Plus the copper piece on the bottom sticks out so it would scrape any floor. They cost $83 with shipping. I wouldn't recommend these for that reason.

    • @traviswrigg5158

      I had a similar experience with the lacing in one of the toes where it was all crumpled up and really like... felt like I was having a stiff hard thing slam into a nerve bundle every stride. I emailed Earthrunners and they told me that would break in. It really never did. So I gave Luna's wing lacing system a try next. I absolutely hated it because it gave me awful blisters and had to be run really really lose as a result. Shamma's elite lacing system has to my experience been the absolute best, and the soles are fine. They're not as good as Earthrunners' soles, but there's absolutely nothing *wrong* with them, which in my minimalist sandal journey has been a big problem. If any one small thing is straight up wrong with a sandal, there's so little there that it becomes the absolute focal point of the sandal

    I just started grounding but i have a lot to learn. i have earth runners and love them, but all those others look great too. I did however want the grounding which is shown to reduce inflammation of entire body. people who ground during sleep report much deeper sleep but i can't say i feel that as much. but i do want to do what i can to be one with mother gaia. peace to you. thank you for a wonderful vid which i am sharing to my barefoot friends.

    I've got a pair of Earth Runners and I like them, but you really need to get the straps correct. The actual fit was good but it took me a while to realize how far back my feet were, because I didn't realize I had the heel strap far too loose. Once I made it a bit more snug, the feeling of wearing them improved a lot. That said, I recently bought some Shamma Sandals because they seem to offer the benefits of the Earth Runner, but with a better strap system.

    Were your toes always spaced apart like they are now or was that a result of being barefoot/barefoot sandals? I’ve been going barefoot a lot for the last 4 years and have finally started to notice a bit of spreading.

    Chacos are a zero drop sandal, the bottom of the heel cup is the same height as under the toe.
    They're heavy and supportive, not a minimalist shoe, but they don't have any drop to them.

    • @Greenbelly
      @Greenbelly  Před 3 lety

      Interesting. I just read that as well from Chaco employees via the ultrarunner podcast. They certainly feel elevated. Maybe it is the 'supportive' contoured footbed - versus a flat one that is commonly associated with zero drop.

    • @indy2867
      @indy2867 Před 3 lety

      @@Greenbelly I have a couple pair of the Xero Hurache kit sandals I use for running, and Chacos I wear around afterwords.
      I've been minimalist running for about two months, 4-5 days a week, and between 4 and 7 miles or so, at a time. I wear my Chacos around afterwords and for me, I like the support after running in the 4mm thick Hurache.
      And for what they're designed for, staying on your feet in rough water, the Chacos are phenomenal. I did try running in them, and no thanks. They make a great camp shoe and river crosser though.

    Hey, how do these sandals handle being wet? Do they retain water and/or get weird when wet? Do they dry fast and without issues? If I’m wearing sandals, I usually feel much more comfortable with my feet getting wet, because they’re breathable and should dry quickly, but I’ve found that this is actually not the case most times. Nobody seems to talk about such a range of sandals, and I’m sure you’ve experienced these getting wet at some point. I would just like to hear your thoughts on these in that regard.

    • @Greenbelly
      @Greenbelly  Před 3 lety +1

      The only one that might take a bit to dry would be the Earth Runners (due to the canvas footbed). Otherwise, they all dry pretty fast/ don't retain water.

      I’ve owned Bedrocks, Unshoes, Shamma sandals, and Xero Shoes. The bedrocks were too heavy for me, the Unshoes didn’t feel secure but I have a very thin long foot. I really like the Shamma sandals (owned 2 pairs) but the tread wore off too fast and I currently have the Xero sandals in 2 styles (my favorites). I also own 3 other styles of Xero Shoes.

    Looking for a super-minimal sandal to wear around the house / pool.. Xero Z-Trail / DIY seems like the best choice, but it's not perfect, as it's not slip-on (it has a heel strap)
    Ideally, I would like an open-toe , slip-on style, where the single support is horizontal across the foot.. next best, would be a slip-on flip-flop style with the single support between the toes.
    Do you know of anything like that is available?

    • @Greenbelly

    Luna’s Size fitting question here. If I wear Size 6 has 1 cm left in the back but they fit just right in the front. One size smaller 5.5 size is 7mm less but 4 mm less in the front which I don’t need to reduce. So if I keep size 6 are there any inconvenience of having 1cm left in the back while using them? The sole is 11mm. Any light will be more than appreciated.

    • @csommer4492
      @csommer4492 Před rokem

      Hey dude! A little late to the party but I figured I could answer you question as I have narrowish feet and have both the xeros and the cairns. The cairns are the best minimalist sandal I've ever worn for stability/foot security to the footbed, with all three security straps being adjustable (heel, outside top of foot, inside top of foot), and the footbed-to-foot grip is better. I never feel like I'm going to slide out the side or even out the front when I'm hiking downhill in warm weather like I would with the xeros.

    Hello Chris this was a very very awesome video you did thank you so much for this video. There's two sandals that am looking at. I love how you demonstrate each sandal on your foot because this help me a little bit. My question is I see you have a wide foot don't feel bad man I have a very very wide foot 4 EEEE WITH fat wide toe. I'm wondering how wide is your foot cuz I'm looking at the Bedrock sandals and the Shamma sandals. I see how they fit your foot did you order those wide. On the Bedrock sandals I saw a little footprint on the foot bed. I was wondering how long it took for that to appear. I'm just wondering because I bought a pair of Reef flip flops that can fit me but in 2 months the footbed was worn out and I had a nice wide footprint on the foot bed but the souls was still new. The Shamma sandals the same question did you have to order those wide and the footbed look shiny and slick is that's just the way it looks and the foot bed is okay. Was wonder which sandal would you recommend for somebody who has a very wide foot. Having very wide feet very hard to find sandal. I've always been a flip-flop guy cuz that's the only thing I could find to fit my wide feet. Like the xero sandal to but I don't think they will work because of my toes being wide and fat. If my toes was the size of yours I think it would work. Your video help me narrow this down some. I'm sorry this was so long but I was wondering if you can really help me. I will give this video a thumbs up and I like. I wish could give a hundred thumbs up cuz it's the best one I ran across. Thank you Chris you have a nice day and be safe of covid 19.

      Hey Mack, My feet are about 4 inches wide. Actually been told many times they are narrow. Lol.

      Greenbelly how you doing man. Wow you actually have been told your feet are narrow. Wow I thought they were wide. Man you are lucky it's not fun having a wide foot well at least like mines. I will go to their website and check them out. It's embarrassing sometime trying to put my flip-flops on because my feet are wider than the straps. It's got my friends , co-workers and boss calling me ( wide foot Bandit ) because how wide it is. Sometimes I just get frustrated and just go barefooted👣. I'm real lucky that my job at least let me wear flip-flops to work. they have seen and understand my situation. There's not a lot of shoe options out there for me and the ones I do fine they crush and hurt my toes. My boss even tried to help me find a pair of shoes and could not believe how wide my feet were and just told me just stick with some sandals so that's why I'm looking at these two pairs. I appreciate your help and your reply. thank you I'm going need all the luck in the world.

I do everything in them. It's so nice to put on a pair of sandals on and not have to fight to put them on my very very wide feet with fat wide toe like I do with flip flops. I wore flip flops for 30 years and I'm planning on wearing bedrocks for 30 years. Your video helped me so much to narrow it down and you demonstrating it help Me out. It feels so good to join the Bedrock sandal family. Thank you so much sir and let's Rock are Bedrock sandals.

I’m not looking to hike or run or even leave my property, but it seems every company that produces minimalist sandals assumes you want to hike in them.
