My mom is an identical twin, and I have such lovely childhood memories. I remember telling everyone in kindergarten that I had two mamas but only one dad. I would get very upset when someone would argue with me that this wasn’t possible 😅

I feel like they'd probably "know" who their dad is given enough time. No, even toddlers have difficulty. My dad and my uncle look strikingly similar, and almost every child in the family has spent the first few years of their being confused between them. The only giveaway is my dad is reserved and quiet, and uncle is fun and cuddly. Even my nieces have been confused several times.
Babies can recognize their parents smell very well, and if you notice closely, she doesn’t ‘ask’ to be picked up by her uncle quite the same way how she asks to be picked up by her dad (urgent, long stay). She is just using the words closest to what she is trying to communicate ‘that person is [like/related] to dad’

I think I was like 6 or something, so I don't remember all the details, but I know that I was crying. No idea why I was upset, but I was and I just wanted my dad but I couldn't find him. Eventually, I ran into my uncle and mistook him for my dad. Instead of playing their normal game he just comforted me, didn't correct me and tell me he was my uncle, he was just there for me because he knew I needed my dad, or rather someone who looked exactly like him. It wasn't until I was older and got better at differentiating them that I realized I made a mistake all those years ago

I've also had several dreams where there are suddenly two of my cat. In one dream there eventually were four cats that looked exactly like my cat wandering around my house. The one in gray had to be the dad, she was clinging to him, even when she said Dada to the other twin she stayed in his arms unless he gave her to the twin but in the other twins arms she leaned forward to go to the one in gray herself.
