Hunting The Pre Rut

  • The Pre Rut is one of my favorite times to be in the woods. Those older bucks on your property, which have been reclusive up until this point, are starting to move more in daylight as they prepare for The Rut. Because of this, the behavior of bucks throughout the Pre Rut can often times make their movement very predictable! And in order to understand where how and where to hunt, we first need to understand what these bucks are doing and why they are doing it.
    In this video we talk about several strategies we focus on during the pre rut, including deer sign and stand locations you should be focusing on in order to increase your chances of success during the pre rut!

    Thank you for making it easy to understand and straight forward. Others have made it sound like you'll never see a deer if you tip toe the wrong way. Thanks! Good advice

    Hi Jake, I am a subscriber and I enjoy your content as well as learn from you, thank you very much for that. I say this because I am going to criticize your thought process and I don't want you to take it personal. Although you are correct, right after it rains, or a storm passes through, the bucks get up to freshen their scrapes, however I do not believe that deer are cognizant of whether rain washes the sent away. Until someone mentioned it, I never thought of it, and I'm a human and way older than a deer lives to be. What I believe happens (and I guess we'll never know the truth) is that they are normally going around and hitting the scrapes anyways, but because they are bedded down waiting out the storm, they can't participate in the rutting activities that they naturally want to do. Thus, as soon as the storm breaks, they have all of these bottled up hormones and now they can go back to doing what bucks do this time of year, make rubs and scrapes. If they think about it at all, they think like little kids. Little kids just want to get out and play. If its raining, mom says you have to stay inside. As soon as mom says you can go out, then that's what they are going to do. Most bucks are under the age of 5. Anyways, every time I hear someone say that the deer know their scent needs freshened up because it rains, I just have to say something. I can't prove I am right, but I believe I am pretty darn close to it... With all that said, I am going to continue to watch your channel and I feel as though you are one of the few who honestly want to help your fellow hunters and not just grow your channel to make money, ... Thanks!

    I’m finally getting to hunt after 17 years in the Ag business between harvest and home life I never had available opportunities. This year I decided to get into it, and got my first doe last week thanks to these videos. Now that we’re about to go into rut I just landed 13 private acres that I only stepped foot on twice. Dose anyone have any info on how I can hunt a good spot without goin in and pressuring the ground?

    Hi Jake, been watching the young bucks following s few minutes behind the does on cameras. Still looking for a mature buck to show up. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get into the woods yet as my wife has been having some medical issues. Trying to get the most of my hunting time. Thanks for the informative video.

    Does the temperature have any impact when Rut starts? We are having very warm weather on October 26 through October 30 in Pennsylvania at 80 degrees F. Usually start seeing Bucks first week of November. Thank in advance for any input from Deer experts here. 🦌

    Do you have any recommendations for the unusually warm weather that's starting today in mid-Michigan? With highs ranging around the upper 60s to 70 (today) and lows in the mid to upper 50s along with rain in the forecast for most of those days, should I even bother trying to hunt during this period or should I just wait until Saturday a.m. to resume? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

    New to hunting and have a tree stand looking over a community scrape and seeing lots of does. Should I lure a buck by adding doe estrus to the scrape or just leave it alone?

      Leave it and let the does do their thing. The bucks will know the second those does are ready. If you are seeing does the bucks will be behind them soon

      We’ve hung ropes from higher branches to help develop a rub/scrape line. Doe are just dropping their scent around it. Put a camera up, I bet you have bucks hitting it during the night hours

      I had deer (bucks and does) on my lease it’s 120 acres in ga was putting out big tine and corn they would show up and eat it all until recently haven’t seen a doe at all and seen nothing but bucks which I’m not complaining but in ga u can only shoot 2 bucks and 10 does. I’m wondering where they went

    How would you access the stand on your property?

    • @samuelpancake4084
      @samuelpancake4084 Před 8 měsíci

      You must do your scouting . Trails . Tres rubs. Simply sitting in the stand seeing if you have does
