Inglorious Basterds absolutely should not be on this list. Don't get me wrong, I love Inglorious Basterds its a great movie, but I really don't think it should count on a list like this considering its 100% ww2 fiction and therefore not really ww2.

Patrick Allen Personally I don't like the movie just because of how racist it is. In the movie, they hardly give any leniency to the Germans that hated the regime, but were trying to just do their duty. Take for instance. one of the first German soldiers they filmed, didn't want anything to do with the Nazi party. He was just a soldier, not even a member of the party. And yet, they had to mark him as somebody he hated. SO CRUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I say..."Those bastards can suck it."

dude enemy at the gates is a silly romance anticommunist propaganda that takes place during the greatest battle of ww2 which is shown in a manner where you question who is the bad guy in this movie. The passion to undermine the soviets-in all aspects- makes the Germans look cool and honest compared to greedy communists. its maybe one of the worst movies ever.
The only good thing about it, is that it mentions some real names and from that point the viewer must search on his own to find the truth. Chuikov, Zaichev etc were not at all like that.

I originally watched it in German because dubbing usually looks and sounds funny. But later found out, even the German dialogue had to be looped (re-recorded) because of the magnified camera noise caused by the submarine interiors.
What's interesting is because the major actors could also speak English, they dubbed their own voices for the USA and UK version.

I don't agree with "Inglorious Bastards" being on this list at all. That is just a mess of a film that showcases how much Tarantino loves Tarantino and gives zero thoughts to the actual subject matter. "Flags of our Fathers" deserved to be on this list in my opinion as it showcases not only the brutality of war but also the significance of PTSD and the mainstream glorification/marketing of war in the states. "Tora Tora Tora" was somehow omitted even though it gives a good look at how both sides viewed the attack on Pearl Harbor which is important because all too often war films portray the enemy as some shadowy figure. It is important to see all viewpoints of the conflict in order to better understand the history of the conflict. Especially since the Japanese viewpoints was filmed by a Japanese crew.

like i said, its something between serious ww2-movie and hollywood, which doesnt mix good in my opinion. inglorious bastards is no serious ww2-movie, but its a better hollywood-movie. if i want a serious ww2 movie i'd rather watch a german production. im a german though, so my opinion is most likely biased.

My country was occupied by Germany and our men were forced to fight for the Nazis. If they refused, they were killed, if they deserted, their families were punished. But as soon as my family fled the town, my granddad deserted and joined the partisans. After the film ended, I asked him what he thinks of it, and he said its bollocks, a fairy tale that doesnt reflect reality. And told me to never forget, that the reality was much much worse. "Come and See" is the WWII movie to see. I know it"s been mentioned on the comments, but to not even have it in honorable mentions is baffling! This movie (unlike any other on this list) is #30 on the "Sight & Sound" directors poll for all time best (to be fair, it does not appear on the the critic's poll at all, though none of the movies mentioned on this video appear on either list) This is mention-able because "Sight and Sound" is considered to be the most respected critical movie review panel among professional career film critics (according to Roger Ebert). Anyway, no disrespect to the folks at Watch Mojo, this is more just to say, check this film out! Very realistic depiction of war, void of any frills or "glory".

The tactics, the way they wore their gear & cartridge belts up high so as not to affect shooting from the prone position are examples i can think of right off that i noticed as an Army, Vet. "A Bridge too Far" Shows with intensity how the Allies used combined arms to extreme effect. plus it is Spot On, with actual WWII Vets, playing many of the parts. Both are Highly recommended.

The Longest Day, T-T-T! are toned-down propaganda, but at least they have parts that appeal to Japanese too.
