You don't need to keep cutting past the cambium and phloem (the green parts)... If you destroy too much of the xylem (the tan stuff), you're cutting off water / nutrients to the tree's leaves, increasing chances of a failed air layer..

With this method can I create aerial roots, not cutting the tree just plant the aerial roots back in the soil? My ficus is like 2cm in diameter.

you might have problems since small roots will dry out and only super long ones can be put down....and the ficus doesn’t have individual long roots but a tight nest.....maybe if you try cutting all roots except the longest ones after air layering? good luck!

Теперь я остановился на карагаче(Вяз) , на сливе и на Бирючине(Бирючина обыкновенная). Не знаю, получится ли. Но я стараюсь. Спасибо еще раз. Султан. Киргизия. PS. А вы сами из какой страны.
