This strategy board game makes you the leader of one of four different cult factions as you try to collect the most "Doom" and 6 spell books. Be the leader to traverse your cult into the vast unknown!

I played Cthulhu Wars once because I owed the owner a favour, then I played it over a hundred more times because of the fantastic asymmetry - every faction is completely different, has multiple pathways to victory and the generous Spellbooks “upgrades” can be combined in interesting ways to make your opponents go “Wait, you can do WHAT? That faction is completely broken” and then they figure out their own faction’s game breaking turbo mode. Seriously this is my desert island game.
You guys have the best and most accurate rules video I’ve seen for this game yet, but your graphics department had a couple hiccups. The first time you mention Great Old Ones, you show a unit that’s a neutral monster, not a GOO; and when you’re explaining the costs for Cultists you show a High Priest, which is a type of Cultist that costs 3 Power - the default Cultist that costs 1 Power is an Acolyte.
Other than that, waaaaaay better than some other attempts at explaining this complex beast than I’ve seen on CZcams.

Retail $200 for base game. I got it on Amazon Super Sale for $140 but spent nothing because I had a bunch of gift cards.

IRosencrantz google Kingdom Death. It’s $400 for the base game and has about 30 expansions that push it up to close to $2k

And there are literally hundreds of Lovecraft board games. One of the most used themes. This one isn't even close to the best one either

@@dustinboatman6134 Haven't played that one. Off the top of my head, have played Eldritch Horror, Mansions of Madness, Arkham 2 and 3e, and Cult (not all Lovecraft, but there are some). And a some variants of other games that change the theme.
Is good to try the old ones, if you can summon the stomach for it

Graphic department whoopsies aside, this is a great summary of the rules! 😁
Also, at 5:44 she moved the cultist to an adjacent area, which is not free.

Noticed Cthulu has Deepone minions. Is Dagon head of his own faction? as I didnt see him on cthulu sheet.

I'm siding with Cthulhu.
i love this game but in my country it costs 240 € (almost 300 $). in my opinion they had to reduce the size of the pieces by 15-20% to decrease costs. they put such a high price because it is also rare, but if they put it with the smaller pieces for € 100 I bought it (with the smaller pieces it is also easier to transport).
i feel like doom guy would always accumulate the most doom points on the doom track by default.
that's why doom guy isn't allowed to play. And Bruce Campbell also (he destroyed some testgames with a chainsaw screaming 'Deadites!!!')

Liam Kelly the core rules are surprisingly simple/clean once you start playing. What’s complicated is the myriad of ways the asymmetric powers interact. Even so it’s fairly easy to teach.
It’s a lot simpler than it looks, my friends who don’t like complex games really enjoy this one and it can be taught in one sitting

There appear to be a couple of mods for it on TableTop Simulator. Additionally, I would sell a kidney to get a copy of this game. I want this game so badly. :)

Feels like a 'Chaos in the Old World' rework, interesting.
Except Chaos is way better. This game was meh for me.
@@dustinboatman6134 Eh, Chaos in the Old World is basically the same but with cards and the factions are less different from each other. Also it's cheaper but the minis are of lower quality.
@@thewhispererindarkness9117 Gameplay is way deeper in Chaos than Cthulhu Wars. The card play alone in Chaos adds more strategy than in CW. CW was a huge let down for me. I love the theme, I love that style of game, and after playing three times decided almost every other game I own in this genre was better. Especially Chaos.
@@dustinboatman6134 It adds more random elements, it's not really more or less deep. The big one for me is that CW is asymmetrical, where in Chaos only Horned Rat is way different.
@@thewhispererindarkness9117 you sure about that? I find Chaos to be plenty asymmetrical. I am fine with the asymmetry of CW, it is the combat that sucks, to be honest. Every fight we ever had ended in just people all retreating and hardly no deaths. Roll 12 dice to get one kill and all retreats. We found it very lackluster, and a let down. I don't find the card play random in Chaos at all. After multiple plays you learn what faction had what cards, and only two spots in each zone gets a card, so it adds a lot of thinking. Do you play a card just so someone else can't? Or will you summon figures instead? I also don't find the upgrade system in CW that great, because you typically see most of them every game. In Chaos, you can build your god's powers completely different every game, because you only get a few upgrades a game and have plenty to choose from.

Game is great, but it's Kickstarter campaign was atrocious! It was horrible! Still, game is great!

Dream146 it is definitely expensive. Would recommend trying before you buy, but in my opinion the price tag is well worth it. It’s my favorite game currently.
