What the German-made Taurus 'bunker buster' missile could give Ukraine

  • The Taurus aviation cruise missile, known as the 'bunker buster' has the capability to penetrate air defences, delivering a deep hammer-like blow to the enemy.
With its dual-stage warhead system, the first part is designed to bust through deeply buried targets, delivering a fuse that delivers fragmentation damage at a specific level of a building or bunker.
Those calling for its delivery to Ukraine say that with a range of just over 310 miles, it will allow the targeting of Russian military infrastructure far behind the front lines.

Bunker busters now a days go through 50 feet of dirt and rock no trouble. A direct hit would mess up any ship. Even if it went right through and then detonated the gas bubble underneath the ship would mess it up.

The Germans know bunkers better than anyone. In fact, during the final days of WWII, it is little-known to the wider world, but the leader of the country spent much time in a specially-built bunker. I bet the engineers looked at their grandfather's blueprints of bunkers to design a really great bomb. Thank you Germany for everything during the war, so far. The proper way to do it is using a kamikaze boat because sending it on a lorry bomb will not work because the bridge that will survive intact but not the boat as seen on October 9th 2022. The main command bunker underneath the Ural Mountains which might house Putin's dead hand weapon can survive the Storm Shadow and Taurus bunker Buster cruise missile. Taurus flies under the radar at over 1000 km/h at an altitude of 20 to 30 meters and is therefore very late for an enemy to detect. In addition, Turus does not need any external signals to navigate, which is why no electronic countermeasures are of any use. Likewise, most anti-aircraft missiles are not designed to engage targets flying so low to the ground.

@@2000toinfinity Both Russian anti-aircraft systems have a short range and the Taurus is guaranteed not to approach its target in a straight line over areas where anti-aircraft systems have been suspected or detected. Defeating the Taurus or Storm Shadow is definitely not impossible. Russia keeps reporting that it shot down almost all Storm Shadows, but evidence is lacking. Had Russia shot any, the rubble would have been put on display and used for propaganda purposes, guaranteed. However, since the effects of deep craters from storm shadow hits were evaluated by satellites, the Russian kill rate should be close to zero. Russia can certainly protect some objects with air defenses, but not all at the same time.
