    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  Před 8 měsíci

      It's possible to just go ahead and skip the primer process on them but from personal experience the job doesn't come out as well as the suppliers use very cheap quality primer which one can affect how durable your paint is long term and two doesn't produce as good a job 😊

    Great video! When the abrasion goes all the way down to the base plastic, do you recommend sanding it down and using adhesion promoter before spray paint? thx

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  Před rokem +2

      Some people do use adhesion promoter but to be perfectly honest with you I have never used it I just make sure that the surface is well prepped. The jobs I've done have never had it and the results and the longevity of them is still standing the test of time. I think the most important thing is to use good paints and definitely 2k clear for durability but I'd say if you've got some promoter no harm in trying it :)

    Much appreciated

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  Před 10 měsíci

      If your colour is bright red personally I would prime it white and then I would follow the same steps in this video 3x primer, light sand with 800 grit to smooth the primer a little then 3x paint coats and then 3x clearcoat because red is such a difficult colour like painting white for the best colour match you'll have to blend into the other panels then it will look uniform theres a few videos online showing this let me know if you want me to send a link for one hope that helps 😊

    • @The_journeyy

      That is a lot of money just for a bumper resprayed I wouldn't know to be honest I've not used them all the primer I get is just the normal primer from my body shop the best lacquer I've used so far is the proxl 2k clear it's worth keeping in mind that certain colours unless you've got a perfect colour match you'll need to blend slightly into the other panels for example for the front bumper I'd blend slightly into the fenders 😊

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  Před rokem +1

      The CZcams app plays about and doesn't always show me all the comments made. There's no such thing as perfect what your looking for is a surface that's not rough and feels smooth to touch basically the sanded down primer is the base and reflective surface all the other coats then sit on to compliment the gloss if you skip this step you'll have a rough surface that the paint sits on that isn't able to help show the gloss your then laying on top of it and it will be dull and glossy
      I made that same error when I first started painting and learned its all about following all the steps
      Sand, primer, flatten primer lightly with 800 grit , apply paint coat and then the clear lastly.

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  Před rokem +1

      I wouldn't pay £550 for a job like that I'd do it myself so have many others where he did go wrong like a few newbies do is he didn't follow the proper steps you take when you paint and didn't flatten the primer so his paint ended up looking dull which is an honest mistake anyone new can make and why I specifically highlighted what happens if you don't flatten the primer in the video but it's a learning curve and next time he will smash it and follow all the steps

    I need to paint my front bumper, but it has had a low speed impact and the paint is crazed on the corner. I am wondering if I can sand and paint over this, or if the crack lines will always refelct through the fresh paint. Do you think this section need to be stripped back to bare plastic? Can you even strip one section, will paint fether edge on plastic or does the whole bumper need stripping?

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  Před rokem +1

      If you put fresh paint on it yes the crack lines will show. If the damage is just minor you can sand the damaged area then I would put a little flexible body filler on the area the crack lines are and then sand the filler down until its nice and flush. Once the lines were covered and filled by the filler I would prep the bumper for paint and paint the whole bumper and blend it in with the other panels unless my colour match paint was spot on

      @@The_journeyy Cheers. Its a pearl paint just to make things more difficult! Spray cans have got better and better over the years, the finish you achieved is incredible and much better than anyone elses with the same kind of tutorial on CZcams. • @The_journeyy

      It shouldn't be orange peel-y have a look to see the causes of this on Google the most common is putting on coats which are too thick if you put clearcoat on that panel it will stand out massively I would resand the job to the start and put nice even coats of paint on let them dry appropriately and then put the clearcoats on

      There's multiple reasons that can cause that first I'd start with did you prep the bumper properly then I would look at the whether you used the correct paints for a plastic bumper where did you buy the paints from and did you use the correct sandpapers to prep the bumper

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  Před rokem

      I have done this in the past on my first job and there is a few reasons that cause this. The first reason being using a very dark primer for a dark colour for example black primer on black paint rule of thumb is your supposed to use a light colour for a dark colour and vice versa, two your colour match you've had done is way off I personally wouldn't get my colour matched at Halfords only use local bodyshops that provides paints to auto body places when I had this experience I went to a local car paint shop for my paints and before you spray a panel I check the colour match on a paint card against the car if the colour match is good you won't need to blend if its not quite 100% you just do a slight blend into the other panels.
