  • Learn how to create fire with your hands in this exciting new After Effects tutorial!
    If you want to follow along with this tutorial, you can download the footage and the background image here:
    www.surfacedstudio.com/tutori...
    For the fire element I am using Action Essentials 2 by Video Copilot. You can get it here: www.videocopilot.net/products...
    You can also find some free fire elements by following my post here:
    www.surfacedstudio.com/blog/u...
    It is easy to do some motion tracking and attach a basic stock footage element of fire onto your hands, but there is a little bit of work involved if you actually want to make it look good.
    After tracking my thumb, we will use a looping fire stock footage element and set my thumb on fire! With the help of a delta null object and some clever expressions we will have the fire bend organically as I move my hand around. Finally we will add some advanced lighting to the scene using the Difference Matte effect to avoid spending hours rotoscoping.
    There are lots of little useful tricks in this tutorial that will help you create all sorts of other cool visual effects - or set even more things on fire!

    i started with photoshop in 2013 and got into after effects with this tutorial(2014) and learned illustrator 2 years ago and now learning blender. came a long way.
    i recommend this tutorial even to beginners even tho its intermediate becuz it covers many major stuffs that u would use a lot like time remapping, precomposing, expressions, difference matte, tracking, etc.
    this tutorial really coveys basic idea of how keyframes work.

      Surfaced Studio Cool. I also have a request for a video tutorial. Can you teach us some effects that would be useful in an action movie. For example: making punches connect. Thanks a ton! Also, do you have an Instagram?
      Stay awesome!!

    • @phancypheline
      @phancypheline Před 9 lety

      Homemade Hollywood Something a lot of people forget is that punching something moves both people away. So if you move the shoulder slightly back about 1/20 second before the impact it helps tremendously. You can also add some wrinkles in the shirt and a _very_ slight ripple on the skin, plus a dent.

    Thanks for doing all these tutorials! I did some practice on my own footage. The only thing I added was a short almost invisible puff of smoke at the end when blowing out the flame. I got the idea from your other tutorials. This one was great for additional mask and expressions practice. I also liked simulating a night shot and having the flame light my face which could be useful in other situations as well. Keep up the good work.

    Great tutorial ! I stop at the 14:00 mark, I felt that is enough to show a quick fire on my hands. The rest is pretty advanced stuff but Great. Thank Tobias

    Great tutorial, thank you.
    Quick question, how would you create shadows on your face and under your right arm according to the position of the fire?

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  Před 8 lety +1

      Duplicate the layer of yourself, tint it black, make it semi transparent and then either animate or link it to the position of the flame. Then use yourself as a track matte or use some masks to constrain the shadow to certain areas
