No more irresponsible, short term cuts like Bill English slashing rail and road maintenance expenditure in 2014:to finance Tax cuts. Maybe these large rail passenger ferries should have been transferred to a restored Lyttelton Wellington overnight ferry service or even the RNZN as a transport to replace HMNZS. I am just suggesting the possibility of the longer coastal or naval use should have been examined as these large new ships had been fully designed for rough cold water conditions around NZ and were probably capable of global operation. Hyundai was about to start cutting steel and these civilian ships would not have been difficult to build . They would have been delivered for some sort of inter island service in 2016 and it remains to be seen if a better or safer alternative will be found this decade. I doubt if the Topp twins Wills and Bish could run a branch of Farmers or Hallensteins.

The previous jokers had no clue about spending money, since it was not theirs😂😂 In fact I would request you to start an investigation into the assets of Jacinda, Grant, Hipkins, Ayesha, and that bubble gum next to grant to check where such spending has gone.

I have always been interested what makes a right wing person, go right. As someone with left-wing views, I appreciate the focus on social justice, equality, and environmental sustainability. I believe in creating a fair and inclusive society, supporting workers' rights, and advocating for universal access to healthcare and education. Embracing progressive social policies and wealth redistribution aligns with my values, contributing to a more compassionate and equitable world. I feel that my left-wing ideologies offer a holistic approach to societal progress, fostering innovation and promoting diplomacy for a harmonious international community.

The development of NZ Railways was always delayed, stop start affair. Vogel decided to build fast, light and cheap and the core of the South Island system was built in the 1870s and 1880s as was Palmerston North- New Plymouth. After several cost blowouts the NIMT was finally completed in 1909, 20 years late and on the wrong route. The first thru trains on the NIMT arrived in Auckland just a week before Theodore Roosevelt fleet arrived in NZ . The Great White Fleet was cover for the prospective and planned incorporation of a dangerously misguided socialist NZ into the United States. So in a sense in 1909 the planned US invasion of Auckland occurred, but after a week the USN decided NZ socialism was largely talk and the country was okay and the fleet sailed on. The NIMT however was steep, slow and difficult to maintain, NZ Railways construction allowing 1/35 grades which still stop efficient operation of the Taranaki and Picton lines. The Union Steam ship an alternative Onehunga to New Plymouth overnight passenger ferry continued to run till 1930 linking with the New Plymouth - Wellington express.

The Americans were not interested in taking on the British Empire in the Pacific in 1908.
It was more an announcement of the end of US isolationism.
His history of railway construction is o.k.
But the NIMT route was the most practical route in terms of what the line was intended to achieve.

Time to replace the ferries with galleys, rowed by the unemployed. And we can spend the $3 billion dollars saved on tax cuts for the wealthy/property speculators. This is the official advice of the reserve bank, the cook strait is a dead duck, and have advised to sell the south island. It's just dead weight.

  • @vakaMoana1

Peters knew exactly what the KiwiRail ferry project was and it's scope. Robertson read out in the House Winston's press release of 22 May 2020 to Willis, which stated the scope of the project included significant wharf and shore infrastructure for rail and vehicles. So Willis is either lying or just incompetent in not knowing scope of works. Robertson also asked Willis to table her press release of the previous day that noted that Kiwi Rail had in October 2022 written to the Minister that a tagged cost contingency needed to be increases by 280 million for the ferry project. So Willis is lying again or just incompetent about not knowing of cost over runs? Also KiwiRail fronted Robertson for funding of 2.6 billion which was rejected. So much for Willis's claim the the Labour government throwing good money after bad or was this just another convenient lie on her part?.

i think the truth should be if labour wanted everyone to see "how hard they worked" they would have put that shit in the media. what he is really meaning is he wants to try prove to everyone they did better then the new government. Now all they want to do is is throw it out in the media and just prove they are better by the stance each side has.
