The AI of Xenomorph was ahead of its time.
Someone explained in a video, that the longer you stay on one hiding spot, or the more you use hiding spots(lockers), the more chance that the alien will check on lockers. The more you use items to distract it, the more chance it will start ignoring the distractions and go straight to attack you.
I remember that and it still scares me.

La IA deel alien esta rota, es injusta, en si momento habian dicho que aprendia de tus movimientos pero al final se demostro que su IA esta mal diseñada hasta el punto que cuando te escondes por alguna razon te encuentra a varios metors de distancia y en el DLC donde controlas a la madre no tiene sentido, hay partes que debes pasar con sigilo.
Pero llega un momento donde el alien te sigue sin corre como si le pasara slgo raro, osea, el alien sabe donde estas pero la IA de vez en cuando la interrumpe.

@@smdsnowflakes5107SOMA is a VERY different type of horror. It is mostly a psichological horror with incredible story and atmosphere. The enemies are not that scary. Alien is more visceral.

I still need to finish this game but man i wish the alien AI can be like for other horror games. The devs made it absolutely terrifying to deal with especially how good the sound effects are with it.

The game is built with a shader in those types of hiding places that blocks the Xenomorph's direct LOS, this is temporarily removed if you do something that causes a different sense to detect you.

I was playing this just after the pandemic started and my roomate came home early from work at 2 am. He opend the door to the living room fast and scared me, the sound alerted the alien which killed me. It was the only time any piece of media has gotten a jump scare out of me.

The only game ever that i freaked out in fear. It was after meeting the alien for the first time, when we have to escape some sort of lab. I tried to run all the time when i was near the exit and the alien killed me everytime. I started to feel desperate and was scared how intelligent the alien was. Later i learned to navigate slowly and it was easier. But that was probably the scariest moment in gaming for me. The first time i faced a truly smart enemy in a game.
Alien Romulus has taken inspiration from Alien Isolation in many dark low light scenes with Xenomorphs or facehuggers running around in the shadows for their hunt on human victims.

Except it can't they don't have eyes. I've been in a room crouched in a corner fairly obviously and it's looked right at me and kept on walking. They don't perceive things as we do, they see in different spectrums and sense far more sensitive things that we can't
@@ChildOfTheWilderness In game mechanics terms the alien 100% can see. It has a visual cone in which it will 'see' you, the accuracy of thisd varies with difficulty level.
In lore terms; nobody knows if they can 'see' but they have eye sockets under the dome (referencing Big Chap from Alien, who is the prime case and the creature the Isolation version was based on).
@@bunbun1741 it actually has 3 vision cones + a blindspot. the rate at which it detects you depends on which cone x duration x difficulty

My neighbours used to hate me when I played this game in the evenings.

It's this sort of AI that makes me want to reinstall the game just to see what it is capable of. Loved the short clip.
The Xenomorph in Alien Isolation is actually coded to learn how you play and seek you out in your normal play style. If you like hiding in lockers or vents for instance, it will look for you in the places you prefer. Very scary indeed, one of the best examples of a Xenomorph in an Alien game to this day.
Horror games don't usually frighten me, But this game just hits different lol.

okay so, here's what happened:
you were in the dark BUT shadow and darkness has no effect at all on the Xenos vision, it would be like standing in the wide open under a light because it can see you just as well either way.
the alien "randomly" looked in your general direction, which put you inside its broad vision cone, the biggest vision cone which wont auto detect you outright but instead make the alien more aware of your over a short period until it fully realizes you're there, once that happens it attacks.
the Xeno can also see you in line of sight underneath tables and other things usually
something interesting by the way is allefedly the alien has somewhere around 3x or 3.5x the health of a working joe, but you'll never survive long enough to kill it
Definitely you are a pro in this game
@yonko.samurai nah I'm just okay at it, the Xeno also has 4 separate vision cones and a touch sensor on top of its hearing and ability to see in the dark

One of the many things i hate about Alien Isolation is the AI of the Xenomorph and its hit box, You could breathe on the tail and it would immediately screech, twist round and I would just let it happen, knowing damn well i wasnt going to survive it.

If you wear headset or even have camera he can hear your breathing or movement so it may been the reason it found you, but actually the xenomorph always sees players thats it AI and it just searches spot it could be found in and after confirming player is there it targets you idk how it actually works but it knowd where ypu are all the time.

As I've heard, it has two AIs. One always knows where you are, but tells to the other one only if you're getting too far away from the xenomorph. That's how it always follows you, but has to search once it gets close to you.
I've always thought that xenomorphs can hear your heart beating even from a distance which is why it's nearly impossible to hide from them.

Aliens vs Predator gameplay shows they can basically sense you and the threat you pose through walls. You can consider it canon or not if you want since there isn’t really anything saying it’s not canon other than it’s the AvP game continuity and not a part of the main.

I remember being in one of those large vent spaces with multiple door openings, and as I'm waiting for my best shot to get out I look behind and 2 xenos are booking it towards me!! I was sooooooooooo spooked like it just so humbling and nerveracking to play this game and being reminded the Alien can get to you no matter where you are... there's no safe spot from it
When i play it first time. I was pause game very often...because my hands shaking so much and so badly from the fear that i cant hold pc mouse.

This game is no joke and a true masterpiece
The only game i spend 90% of the time crouch walking in fear.
Wish other games would use ideas like the Devs used in this one. Gave the main antagonist of the game two AI brains. One "dumb" one that explores the area and handles everything else. And another "smart" brain that feeds the other brain info and hints at the possible location of the player.
That and the smart brain knows where the player is at all times.
It's one of the reasons why you can't hide forever in one spot in the game.
Fun fact: When you are spotted, the average Joes will stare at you for a moment and the Xenomorph will hiss. It’s like that to give you a chance to escape and survive

I had to stop playing after I hid in a side room, under a desk. Alien came in, circled the room, went to leave, stopped in the doorway, paused, then turned right at me and lunged. So scary!
I like this concept of there being to AIs for the Alien. One knows where you are and the second controls the alien. The 2nd gets hints from the 1st ai as to where you are and here you can see its gears turning.
If I don't move he will not see me.
But if you play alien isolation on nightmare then he can even smell your fart and see you through web cam💀

I'm a huge Alien fan and have played literally all the games out there for both Alien franchise and Alien vers predator franchise. This game was the only Alien game I ever played that gave me such major anxiety and legitimately scared the crap outta me
Didnt they cover in the AVP games that Xenomorph's "see" by smelling or something like that? It's why Yautja's are visible to them.
Alien smelled like: oh, I forgot my food cooking on the stove.
this game was a masterclass in AI development. They actually wrote TWO different AI routines for the Xenomorph to follow while hunting you down. Just brilliant game development

I can hear the player sey, "oh, crap" when the xeno stopped for a moment. I was OVER at that point.
Alien: Isolation was one of the few games that legit scared me. The AI of the xenomorph was just unmatched, the cherry on the top is the fact that you can only run and hide from it or, as the last resort, drive it away with a flamethrower.

I always love the lack of eyes on the xeno, because just because it isnt facing you head on, doesnt mean it isnt watching you

I assume the Aliens physiology is sort of like a shark. The big smooth surface on its head probably has sensors like a shark's nose which means "game over man, game over". 😅
According to the original story, the Xenomorphs sense brain waves and have some degree of telepathy and mind-reading abilities, so he should know very well that you're right there, hiding within 10 meters of him.

I absolutely love Alien Isolation! Extremely underrated imo this & Soma are the only two games I know that’s first person sci-fi survival horror which is such a shame their is not more because experiencing stories in these types of games are so immersive & fun! I guess most people are too scared and impatient but I like the thrill of it! I’ve played Isolation & Soma about two times each and now I’m thinking about playing Isolation again!
I was never able to finish the game cause it was too stressful and anxiety inducing. And I love the dead space series. Still a great game with lots of details from the movies
This is me. I have the urge to play but I load in and remain hidden in whatever hiding spot is closest until I shut the game off because I can't overcome the anxiety I have of trying to move forward without detection lmaooo. But yes this game is fantastic, with atmosphere right where it needs to be to induce dread and tension
in this game there are two artificial intelligences, the first always knows exactly where you are, the second distracts him.

The best and worst thing about his ai ks that you can't really use the same tactics over and over, like distract with noiser and hide in a locker, it'll sniff you out if that fucking locker. I should know it kept finding me in lockers even when I didn't use detector and was just waiting for it to leave the room. I absolutely love how it learns and adapts to your playstyle and you have to diversify your hidings otherwise you're a cruchy snack for it. Best thing in the game is its ai hands down.
I mean can’t you just do the button prompts to hold your breath when the alien comes up to the locker? Or does he just tear it down right away?
For many years I always dodged this game thinking it was a dull and boring game but this iconic game needs a sequel. I finally downloaded and always played in the dark. 3x beaten so far. We need a sequel. Hopefully with the new movie out, they will create an isolation or continuation of it. Or do what many games and movies been doing, going back in time. We want Ripley with ash or David.
