Fun fact. The music playing when Taki goes on the date with Okudara, is called theme of Mitsuha. We hear it bc Taki is really thinking about Mitsuha the entire time, and thats when he realizes he loves her.

This was a really wonderful experience getting to see your first time watching anime. You were so open to the medium and fully participating, I loved that. You reading out the subtitles was really cute & earnest haha. It didn't detract from the experience at all in the end, thank you for taking the extra time & effort to edit around that so carefully. This video was a great first impression for your channel for me. Respect for putting your whole heart into trying something new!!
I liked your attention to the detail of not only the story but the production here. I like seeing cinephiles get into anime bc they often bring a perspective a lot of anime fans kind of miss--and its a perspective that anime deserves to be analyzed through. Your Name is probably one of the single most technically impressive productions to come out of the medium--its background art and animation is really just astonishing. From here though, I have to recommend you go back in time a bit to some of the classics if youre interested in exploring the medium further. Akira is a name you may have heard of before--its a foundational film in the sci-fi/cyberpunk genre, anime or otherwise. Incredibly, incredibly influential work to western film as well. Other than that, Perfect Blue is one I think everyone has to see. It is imo maybe the most well directed anime film out there by director Satoshi Kon, an undisputed genius who unfortunately passed away all too soon. As a psychological thriller, its one of the most tense films I've ever seen and it uses all kinds of directorial tricks to create a really unique, borderline-arthouse film experience, if youre interested in that. And then of course there are Studio Ghibli films as well, like Spirited Away, which was the first ever foreign film to win best animation at the Oscars.
Yes, I'd love to see perfect blue (and other Satoshi Kon's movies), it's my favorite movie, such a good direction, Akira it's also a must see
@@juanito46101 Perfect Blue is the third recommendation I gave him after I requested Your Name. The second one is A Silent Voice. It will probably take him a while as he mentioned to me.
The voice actor for Taki is currently playing the leading role in Godzilla Minus One.

This is suchhhhhhh a good choice for a best anime. This movie is becoming an instant classic. Also, I love the effort with the editing and constant observations of smaller details.
I love it when there's a research segment afterwards. You gained a sub. There's so much great animated content out there. Hope you get a chance to watch some more.
Two other films by Makoto Shinkai that you might also enjoy "Weathering With You "and "Suzume No Tojimari" are wonderful films as well.

I will be a meanie but I honestly can't recommend it, it's a decent movie and art style and voice design are beautiful, but definitely a sharp downgrade from Your Name, not to mention that it's also massively overrated. Your Name definitely stuck the landing with its over-dramatic moments, but in Silent Voice it actually made annoyed more than anything, not to mention the main female lead of Silent Voice (can't remember her name and can't be bothered to look it up) has NOTHING on Mitsuha, and she mostly is just a plot device and not actually character. All I gonna say is people with hearing issues and mental illnesses deserve better representation than a bully and walking plot device, whose only personality trait is her disability. like dog you want to be viewed like more than your issues? show that you have a personalty. Just my opinion. However, if you want a decent story about a disabled character I would recommend Violet Evergarden anime (just skip Violet Evergarden The Movie), it is smart, gorgeous, the main character is brilliant and has a lot of morally gray characters that are actually decent and well made.

There are more trivias.. For example, the teacher of Japanese literature on Mitsuha school is the protagonist of a previous Movie he made called "The garden of Words." XD. Is ok to see any Ghibli movie, they are masterpieces, both the movies of Miyasaki and the movies directed by Takahata. But we can say the modern exponent of anime directors are Makoto Shinkai, Mamoru Hosoda and Mari Okada. In the 90s the top was by far Mamoru Oshii, sadly he die, but he left us some of the most influential pieces of cinema, Ghost in the Shell, Perfect Blue, Paprika, Patlabor 2, Jin Roh, Angel Egg... / ¡More trivia! Makoto Shinkai made his first anime movie by himself on his home computer, is called Hoshi no Koe, he even voiced the main protagonist and her GF at that time the girl protagonist. XD. You can see the "theme" of his style even there and how he evolved throu time. My fav movie of him is "5cm per second" Is basically Kimi no na wa but with a sad ending and the short "Kanojo no Kanojo no Neko."
I always say that it's a shame that people didn't watch 5 centimeters per second before Your Name. Hits differently.

It is a bit unfortunate that you watched this as your very first anime because it is by far the best anime ever, and others might disappoint by comparison. That said, do also watch Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service and Weathering with You and Whisper of the Heart and something by Mamoru Hosoda. P.S. You did a great job catching on to the plot points early on.

@@nguyentai464, yes, but I'm still 7 years younger than Miyazaki-san. I have watched most of Mamoru Hosoda's work, all of Makoto Shinkai's, including She and Her Cat, one film by Naoko Yamada, and the last movie by Satoshi Kon. I do not go in for series though (except Violet Evergarden). And I still say Your Name (Kimi no Na Wa) is the best.

I'm surprised no one's recommending A Silent Voice here! I've seen debate over whether this movie or that is better, and tbh I like A Silent Voice more. But yeah, I highly recommend it if you liked this movie!
It was the second recommended movie I gave him after Your Name (I was the one who requested this on his Patreon), and he said he will work on it once his backlog of other reaction vids he has not put up yet is done :)
I personally don't like comparing the two. While they are considered slice of life and romance, but one is more rooted in the fantastical idea of a fated lover and utter impossibility while the other is more-so rooted in reality and real life possibilities. Being someone that suffers from anxiety, depression and a small amount of paranoia due to OCD "A Silent Voice" for sure has a special and relatable place for me, but at the same time "Your Name" speaks to the romantic in me that wants that perfect romance that seemingly comes out of no where.
They both deliver on what they want to get across, they're both beautifully animated, the only up that I can give to "Your Name" is the soundtrack.. it's just more memorable to me, but again not really meaning to compare.

I can relate to A Silent Voice as someone who has a cocktail of mental disorders, but to a personal level, I relate more to Weathering With You because it’s a movie about clinging in desperation just to feel alive, both on Hina and Hodaka’s part, though mostly on Hodaka’s part (Hodaka and I have similar backgrounds e.g. abusive parents, moving away by myself at an early age, broke, etc.) and it sheds light on how risks are basically nonexistent to someone who is grasping for straws just to feel something… anything.
