Why are more people not mentioning the terrible OL?? Greeny is the only one I've heard really hit it. The BAD OL is the reason Rodgers got hurt 4 plays into his tenure. Jets signed Rodger's buddies Lazard, Cobb, et al. But no OL. That's the real reason for the angst. Jets blew it on this one. Give up all that for a 40 year old QB and not improve a bad OL?? Game over...

Also, how do you go into the season not expecting a 39-year-old QB to get injured eventually? The reality is Rodgers got injured much sooner and much worse than anyone could have predicted. They had to have known that Wilson wasn't up for the challenge, especially behind that OL. Not having at a competent backup QB is on the GM.

As a long-suffering lifelong and die-hard Lions fan, you're spot on. Having watched the Lions suck for the vast majority of 30 years, the one constant was mediocre to subpar OL play. It's literally the most important offensive position in football. And it's the same on the defensive side.
It's INCREDIBLY frustrating to have this understanding of football and to still see your favorite team's ownership either ignoring it or failing to build it. The Lions are far from proven contenders yet this year, but if fhey prove to be it will be for no other reason than their offensive line play. Patriots, Steelers, Packers, 49ers, all the traditional powers in this league have historically above average offensive lines. I know I'm beating a dead horse, but it's inarguable imho, and like you said way too many people fail to realize it or give it weight. If you want to win a football game, it starts and ends in the trenches.

Agreed to an extent. The frustration is not something Rodgers has ever experienced in his life. I'm basically the same age. He probably grew up a 49er fan in the 80s-90s when they were great. In Green Bay he could tell people to relax because he was never gone for the season. At this point I don't think him being in the building is going to help Zach, we don't need him here until he can play. They can Zoom and discuss the playbook. More important that he heals than anything for the Jets.

I'm outside of the east coast media market, and it always baffles me to peer in and see local media who consistently rip their teams. Putting extra baggage on your team in the form of criticism, complaints, expectations, etc. is only self-defeating in the long run. Staff need a minimal safety net that they can screw up then recover, they need time to learn, and they need understanding in the process. If you get none of that, it is an extra mental burden and helps to create a self-perpetuating cycle of failure.

As a 40 year fan of the Broncos, I think I've figured out why New York teams (outside the hockey teams) can't have nice things. The brutal fan base and media is why. I remember the 15 years between Elway and Manning (along with the 20+ starting quarterbacks AND Tim Tebow), along with the past 6 years since Manning. We didn't start demanding heads on pikes. The fan base trusted Elway to find us our next QB. We also didn't let our greatest QB ever retire a Los Angeles Ram, the way the New York Jets allowed Namath to do. Absolutely right about Rodgers needing to be on the sidelines during the game. Rehab in NY. He could be 1:1 mentoring Z. Wilson during the entire game. He could be in his ear coaching and giving him direction. Motivating the sidelines so that players aren't getting confrontational with one another. Just because you're not playing does not mean that you can't play a role on the sidelines. He's the missing X-factor here. You know what? The energy you put out is the energy you're gonna get back, and I'm looking at the Jets fan base and I'm thinking karma's a bitch. They've waited a long time to get a respectable franchise and win a Super Bowl; but pointing your ire at Rodgers for having the audacity to snap an Achilles and go to rehab yet STILL try to reset the culture among not only the players but the fans who watch them, is gonna result in what you're getting now -- which is a losing team at war with each other and with the fans. Frankly if I were Zach Wilson I'd _welcome_ the chance to get the hell out of NY and go anywhere that's willing to help me develop so I've got a future. NYC wants it all, they want it now, and they want it for nothing. Well boo hoo. The season is over, no way at 1-2 in the vaunted AFC with Z. Wilson as the starting QB do the Jets have a snowball in hell's chance of making the playoffs. They should've been smarter knowing that having a 40 year old QB is risky and they should have definitely had a better backup plan at QB then Z. I think a world where Rodgers keeps his mouth shut would be a very nice one, but I do have a different takeaway. It seems like he was not a fan of how Favre treated him as a young QB in the league. It appears he was a good mentor and teammate to Jordan Love, who is now looking quite solid. I'm guessing Rodgers is already fond of Zach Wilson and is trying to do what he can to prop up the kid. So his heart probably is in the right place.
But he's still the guy who said he was "immunized" and thinks camping is called a "darkness retreat"

Joe Namath is still my favorite Jet of all time. If you saw him in college at Alabama, you would have seen someone as fast as Lamar Jackson and Michael Vick and with the quickest release in football. Arthroscopic knee surgery did not exist back then, so when he got injured in college, knee reconstruction caused him to lose all his speed and he could only backpedal, he then spent his entire NFL career without any of his incredible speed and mobility.
But Joe is wrong to publicly criticize Zach, Zach has a lot of the old Alabama Namath in him, great mobility, a very strong arm, and very quick release, but he is very inconsistent, and the Jet's offensive game plan is a complete joke, we play ultra-conservative and never go on the attack.
Back then Joe was allowed to call all his own plays, he never had someone telling him that he had to run on every first down.
Zach will improve every week if they keep sending him out there ( just like they did with Maverick in Top Gun after Goose died, you keep sending him out there, he's got the talent, and you can learn a skill, but you either have talent or you don't).

In our SuperBowl winning year, Namath threw 5 Interceptions in a blowout loss to Denver in the middle of the season, but we didn't all desert him because of an embarrassing loss. Namath should afford the same courtesy to Zach publicly, and call him privately if he has constructive criticism.

I agree with Namath. I also think Rodgers is doing the best he can do. Rodgers is laying on a bed when he could be leading the team, but he can't. He needs to be with the team and provide support to whoever is replacing him because that is his duty. It is not on Rodgers to decide who plays and who doesn't. The best thing he can do is to show he is behind the team, everyone that stands on the field, whoever they might be. Do not expect Rodgers to talk trash on any teammate under the circumstances.

What Namath is saying is his opinion on what to do. We have seen what happened in the two games after Rodgers went down. Namath was asked a question what he would do now.
Leaders are asked to make tough decisions in a crisis. It is Rodgers opinion that we relax and continue the course. That inactivity is a decision. Calling it not helping the cause is insanity. The inactivity is also not helping the cause.
How many more games do you need to see Zach play? What coaching is Rodgers doing with Zach in California? Zoom meetings? Watching film? What is Rodgers doing helping the cause? Criticising other people's opinions is not helping the cause.

Love Rich, and appreciate this measured response. But Brockman can take a flying you-know-what. I don't know if he was ever a successful athlete or not, but where Rodgers was coming from was, if one is going to succeed, THIS is the mindset one has to have. Whether one wants to use the word "manifest" or not, if one is to succeed, you DO have to first believe that you can. You need to forget about the past, and believe that you can, or you ain't going to. It's quite likely, Wilson isn't too confident right now, so making him even less-so is surely "not helping".
