    Love my A1U Centipede. Although not an OG. Fraction of the cost a OG.
    Took a look at this trackball. My original plan was to just swap the trackball itself with a 48mm translucent trackball with a 5V led ring.
    Then I learned by tearing it down its optical.
    Note GRS will not work due to it being this type of trackball so save your money.
    Think the only option is a solid 48mm trackball which has proven to be difficult to find.
    I tend to want to mod everything controls on my A1Us.

    Well Hey There, @Gamers Reckoning! Welcome back. I agree with you about the nitpicks. Cheap LCD/LED displays can't do a flat black like a CRT used to. I have the Atari Asteroids and Centipede Arcade 1 Up cab and it seems similar.
    For the critics out there, I always bring up that when people are playing, they still find it fun. I think having the trackball with this game is essential for proper play. No one I have had over has said "oh, this RUINs the experience because this is NOT the original." These are a blast to play.
    Hope you have fun with it!

      Hey man thanks for the feedback. I hope at some point A1up allows us to control the video settings. It really just needs to be a little darker. The blacks feel more grey than black. Not everyone has the same taste in video settings so why force us to use theirs? Other than that and the aspect ratio I love it. Cheers! :)

    Button layout on the deck is better than the Tempest. Don’t know why they didn’t just have that third button on the left instead of dual purposing the 2nd player button

    I am so glad they did not force us to buy a stool, because they're fifty bucks too high, compared to generic stools of the same type. I'm glad I didn't sell my wave one Centipede, because I can move it's BOE monitor, and PCBA board into the new cabinet. But it means sacrificing all the games, and controls of the new cabinet. I have cataracts, and that washed out monitor is nearly impossible for me to see, especially the vector graphics based games. Centipede plays way too small for my vision. I did nontice they stretched it horizontally to try to fool us into thinking it was bigger. Lot of work to do, to get this cabinet right. But I agree, the marquee, and side profile of the cabinet ar bang on. They finally got it right, with the spinner, and trackball, too. But they certainly biffed it on the monitor, and aspect ratio of the title game. Thanks for sharing.

    Monitor aside, man this is gorgeous cab!

    Thanks for sharing Dude. I think of modding the CPO with joystick (and Raspberry). This control panel is identical (size) to the Legacy CPOs (MK, Street Fighter) in your opinion?

      I believe so but I no longer have the og legacy mk or sf units so hard to match it up. Might have to google that one. ;)

    I'm having a tough time purchasing this one because of that horrible washed out screen... I ALMOST want to buy the Tempest Legacy cabinet but it doesn't have Lunar Lander (I could do without the live score leaderboards)

    Does the power switch stay in the on position when it’s powered up or is it a toggle that resets back to the middle. My ms pacman legacy has the latter and I hate it. I can’t use my smart outlet with it.

      Oh man I am sorry I sold this unit a while back and got the partycade to save room plus it had the right aspect monitor. If I remember correctly it reset back to the middle. :(

    Thanks for posting this, I've been looking forward to reviews of this cab. I have a question - How tall are you and how were you holding your camera? The cab looks super short compared to the Arcade1Ups I have on their standard risers (I'm 6'2"). I mean they're not as tall as a full size cab, but the video looks like you're towering over that cab haha

      Most welcome! Also I am 6'4 so yeah they are a bit small for me to stand at. I usually sit and play. :)

    I've heard alot of crap about 1ups new releases and honestly haven't bought a new cabinet since like 2020 but recently ordered one of these and it comes in Thursday and I've heard over and over the monitor is dogshit I guess my question is is it REALLY that badly washed out? I bought it to replace my tempest that constantly keeps dieing on me cause of the encoder board issue and if all else fails I'll take the nice BOE monitor from that and put it in this

    • @GamersReckoning
      @GamersReckoning  Před rokem

      To me yeah it really is pretty bad. The image is not near dark enough which makes all the blacks look grey and the viewing angles. On top of that unless you are front and center the screen distorts the colors. To me it's flat out the worst experience I've had with one of their monitors.

    As someone who was around back in the early 80's living in the arcades, I personally love mine in spite of the your accurate nitpicks. Im thinking about eventually swapping out the monitor. Only problem is that my cat LOVES to sit on the control deck all of the time and stare at the screen so cat hairs have fallen into the track ball control unit through the space between the trackball and the edge. Im going to have to replace that at some point since its a closed unit and I am unable to clean it out. But hey look, Im still at number 9 on the Top Score list lol

      I was born in 1980 and that is when Centipede was released so I think that is why it is a huge love of mine. I also love all these cabs because I always dreamed of running or owning my own arcade. Despite their flaws they are all a dream come true for me. Bring on Dig Dug next month! :)

      @@GamersReckoning Thats awesome. I was 14 in 1980. Such fun times. I have 2 Arcade1up cabs. Centipede Legacy and Ms Pacman 40th anniversary. Both were purchased within the past 2 months. Im very happy with both. Nostalgia and memories are not precise things so personally I do not need exact replicas. The compromises that have to be made for that price point as well as control panels having to be able to accommodate the numerous games on each cab I am fine with because they are so well done that I am easily able to suspend disbelief when caught up in the fun of the gameplay to actually believe I have that real thing in my house.

    Aspect ratio? This is a digital reskin of the Atari Legacy cab, which is a reskin of the 11 in 1. SO, you are not going to get a vertical cab.....

      True. But still another dumb decision by A1Up. This beauty deserves much more love. Maybe one day when another company comes along to compete with these current half assers.

    Any chance you could confirm the model type?That monitor was looking awesome despite your really high angle.
    Also, By aspect Ratio were you referring to the aspect ratio of the physical monitor used, or the way the game was presented?
    Because the game looked like a Vertical game displayed on a Horizontal Monitor with no stretching out .. The Aspect Ratio looked correct, and I say that cuz I just got off of Galaxian on Class of 81.

    • @GamersReckoning
      @GamersReckoning  Před 2 lety +1

      No worries the model # on the monitor is A-E00171102-G. I am a pretty tall fella but that's why I got close and took video of it at multiple angles during the review. The image itself has the black bars on the side and does not fill the screen like the original version the game should be. It is not a deal breaker for me as I do still enjoy the cab but it would have been nicer to have the monitor be vertical and match the game like the original A1up and Partycabs did with there's is all I mean.
      It does make it kinda off putting too when you don't know where the edges are in centipede because everything is black where as with the correct monitor the screen itself would keep that from happening. My guess is they went cheap on the monitor and threw out the stool to get that price down to 499. Honestly that is what makes this work for me. Had it been 699? Not so much. Cheers.
