Hi, my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent comes from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work, but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I would only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people consider this the lowest time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly, what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving, and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I have been living full-time in my self convert van.
Emi, your video is a true gift. Stuck in a city cube with a mountain of work, I was able to enjoy the oasis of your nature walks, smile at Kelly's exploring and relaxing, and appreciate the escape for a little while. Thank you! What a gem. I enjoyed being transported by words, music, video.

You’re way braver than me, I’d be scared that the bears are feeling the thaw and coming out of hibernation HUNGRY. So much beauty out there though... God always be with you and Kitty. I recently saw a video, news item, about a crow warning a woman and her small dog about a coyote stalking them. Crows are cool, very smart birds. Maybe that one was hungry.

Watch your drone, Brent lost his looking at a water fall lately. When I lived in Fort McMurray I would put table scraps out on my deck for the ravens, then they would get on the roof and try to look in to see me. If I went out for a walk they would follow me to where I went and back to my place again.
Mary promised me that we would travel America together for a whole year. We locked pinkies.
She even sang to me,
"We'll sing in the sunshine, we'll laugh every day.
And when our year has ended, I'll be on my way."

Unfortunately, 32 days into our trip Mary said,
"Tom, I really like you but I'm ready to go home.
I said, "But what about your promise. ... a year."
"It's only been a month!"
She said, "I changed my mind."

I really love your videos Emi. I so much admire your simple but amazing lifestyle. Not bound by things and property. Living a true dream. Im almost 46 and stuck in an office job 8 to 5 never getting to see the world or even the day because i have bills to pay so feel forced and stuck in an unfulfilling job lol then weekkends come and im tired from the week and have home chores to do. Im grateful nevertheless and God is good. It is your courage that I admire. Thank you for taking us along this wonderful journey of yours ❤❤❤

Finally had a chance to show my roommate your videos and he's blown away by Kelly running on her leash. I really want to live over there. The pacific northwest is incredible. The year round moss in the forests makes me think of fairy tales with Faeries, Elves and such. I've got a pretty active imagination lol. When I was a kid, I was convinced that if you walked up to a mountain and knocked someone would let you inside to reveal a whole mystical world. Reality is boring 😂 I love Ravens. If you always go to the same places and leave them food, you'll make friends. They never forget a face. If you're nice to one they'll tell the others. Corvids are so so so smart. 7:32 Kelly so cute LOL ❤Merri had his tooth cleaning last week, since then he's purring and happy, he doesn't even have "cat breath" anymore. I'm so relieved! No more gingivitis and he had no bone resorption. Pretty good sonce he's 9 and this was his first teeth cleaning ever!

Ravens are highly intelligent! They remember who treats them good and with respect AND who disrespects them. Some people always complain about how birds are dropping stones, nuts, & poop on them. Those are people who have disrespected the birds.
