Finally! We can see what we're ACTUALLY paying for -- most of the time the BCG is one of those unicorn item sthat you just buy with a good stamp on it and hope it works how it's supposed to....In for a SOLGW / BCM / SIONCS / PSA for comparison
I'm sure many would agree: a video on FINISHES. BTW, Just received two bolt carrier groups from ADM and they look and feel pretty awesome. I have some Geissle ones that I bought from PSA and looks like I have to do some re-staking on them. Both of them don’t have a good staking
I'd love to see a test on Radian's BCG. Obliviously because I have 2, but also because I've "heard"(after I purchased mine) that Jim is using the same company that makes the Radian BCG.
@@hodlwise2470 I don't know. This one isn't the same enhanced BCG as some of the ones I've seen in Hodge guns. The one I'm talking about looks exactly the same as the Radian one but with the clover Jim puts on his stuff. Whoever makes the Radian ones makes/made them for a few other companies. From what little I can find on the enhanced BCGs, people are saying Azimuth makes them. Fathom Arms has a Facebook(from 2014) post with "their" new enhanced BCG made by Azimuth and it looks exactly the same as the Radian. As far as this one in the video, I don't know who makes it.
is there any detriment to mixing and matching barrel and bolts. like a hodge barrel with a microbest bcg?(I get mine from them, not through a manufacturer they make bcg's for)
Chad, what are the Go, No-go pin diameters you are using for the gas key? I haven't been able to find the specs for that and I'd like to test the nitrided BCGs we sell and work on as they seem to be an issue.
Chad, where can we find the specs for the gauging you use? I would like to make what I can and purchase the rest. Thank you for the outstanding videos!... My hat's off to you!!
As a blanket answer C158 is a safer option. It's the OG spec spec, etc. The thing is there is nuance to the 9310 v. C158 debate. IF, and that's a very big IF, 9310 is heat treated and QCed properly it will be better than C158. The issue is that all of your budget BCGs that use 9310 bolts won't be that way. Like Shooter said, when used as a budget replacement it will be worse than C158. Thing is Hodge, like with their Barrels and the gas key in the video, go above and beyond to micromanage QC so that their bolts are better than mil-spec. So that said, Cheap 9310 < C158 < Good 9310. BUT good 9310 is rare. It's safer to stick to C158 and call it a day. Sources: my Engineering Materials professor and at least one other professional mechanical engineer.
@@rifleshooterchannel208 his parts are far far far from crap, he has never claimed to be a manufacturer. His business is more of an R&D firm. Which DOD projects with rifles have you worked on? If his rifles are junk then why has the Army still own a few of his rifles at the Maneuver School of Excellence, which they use to compare other rifles against?. There is proof of his barrels shooting Sub MOA on the internet if you look. His gas ports are tuned for M855A1 and suppressor use.
For the 3 bore wouldn't you have to measure in relation to the bolt? I get out the standard can deviate and may seem like it would be inefficient but if the bolt has slightly larger dimensions the bcg can actually be efficient.
My best guess - yes. Since it’s mil-spec, everything will fall into a specification. No two bolt carriers will ever be identical. There will always be some variation even if it’s by a thousandth of an inch.
He’s said before you want either the insert or the donut but not both. Since this has an insert also having the donut would cause the extractor to have too much force
Because, afaik, the donut is a bandaid solution for a weak extractor spring. They probably used a higher weight spring that will accomplish the same task without degrading like an o-ring would.

These videos are freaking awesome! Thinking about flying out for a course if the supreme court gives us our rights back in MA!
I would love to see you do an inspection on a BCM and Aero Percision BCG.
you examined the shit outta that BCG yo
I’ve definitely got a better knowledge of what I’m looking for when I’m buying a AR after watching this channel.

Also, I know that even if it is the same manufacturer, that doesn't mean it's the same spec.
Which company? I know Schmid, KNS, and Mico-Best make BCGs for most companies.

Outstanding very informative videos! Which BCG would you rate the best?

Probably just a remarked RCA bcg just like Noveske uses.
Looks just like an RCA.
How come you don't store your caliper completely closed?
Awesome. Thanks for everything you do bro.

Hodge! My dream AR.
And a Unicorn
I was able to find one. Worth it.
were can you get all the gauges you use ??
Thanks again for the great video! What is your opinion on Carpenter 158 vs. 9310 steel for bolts?

@@rifleshooterchannel208 Any particular reason you hate Hodge? Did you get a bad gun and have CS issues or are you just against rare $2,850 AR-15s?

Where can I get one of those Azimuth carrier keys? Could never find em as a stand alone product.
Would like to see a physical on a rainier arms BCG. Their match grade nickel boron has had mixed reviews and I'm curious to see what you find
Is it normal for some BCGs to be shorter, longer, different undersides, ETC ???

Do radian or bcm plz sir
Just bought one!
Hodge looks like a top quality outfit, I’ve always heard great things but it’s awesome to see it up close
Triple OG , they definitely are! I have 12.5” Mod 1 and it’s a beast! Wish I could get the Mod 2, but it’s a Unicorn...
Wait.. when did extractor donuts become bad?
He’s said before you want either the insert or the donut but not both. Since this has an insert also having the donut would cause the extractor to have too much force
@@ryanpeck3377 thanks!
SLR bcg please?
What is the significance of magnetism of the bolt and other components of the BCG?
well, well, well
Could you please tell me what 5 size guage pins you used for the bolt shoulder support diameter?
Why no donut on the extractor is a good thing?

for as much as they charge for basically mil spec parts anything less than perfect is unacceptable
Hodge is everything
BCM next!
