I've had the X1 25D M-SPORT for just over 18mths and..... I still love driving it like I did on the 1st day I got it, it's nice to have a bit of power under my right foot, it's rapid enough to have some serious fun on those windy B roads, but just remember it's an SUV and not a sports coupé and you won't end up visiting the inside of a tree before those pearly gates, the fuel economy suffers quite a bit but that's to be expected in any car, its very comfortable on a long run and I especially like the electric seat side bolsters that can grip your body in the corners if you so wish, then when set in the wide position they make for a nice relaxed comfortable long run, they are an easy way of making any sized person able to be comfortable. I have the adaptive suspension which is worth every penny you can really feel the difference between comfort and sports settings, the panoramic sunroof is great at making the car feel nice and airy for the back seat passengers, and a little wind in the hair for the front readers... the Harmon Kardon sound upgrade is also great value, obviously it's not the best in the world but it's still a good selection and handles all sorts of music easily. The only downside is the options list can add up very quickly so just be aware of that. I still love the way it handles and the 25d's turn of speed is absolutely brilliant for a car of this size, oh and if you stay away from the run flats it won't have that annoying noise most people complain of. Yes it's expensive but I think it's worth every penny knowing it's the class leader and every other SUV in this class just isn't as good... or as fast.

I love the car but only am bothered by the whistling wind noise from the side mirror or windscreen ? What causes it ? Any ideas how to get rid of it ?

This BMW X1 does look pretty cool to own as a small family car!
i dont like that you need to press everytime the automode for the glasswipers for when it rains and when you put it on it doesnt work on the back glass its an apart button for that too but if you out it on it doesnt stop and the gearbox is too big for automatic
Have the old generation fully loaded. I disagree with your comments on the old one. Depending on the lifestyle there is not always a reason to upgrade and keep throwing money in the toilet to have 2 cm extra space and small bits and pieces here and there. These reviews sound like my contractor when you call them for a small job " you knoooww, we can leave this wall here but once, you ll watch tv, the whole house will fall on your head. Cars after 2016 copy the philosophy of Apple, every 6 months a new car or body kit or new extras. And then we are never satisfied with what we have in life.

Adjustable lumbar support is optional on most of the cars on the market anyway, even on special models.

Once decently equipped this is the same price as the 330 wagon. Similar room and beats it in every way. Had a brand new X1 as a service loaner during my 1 year oil change and couldn't wait to get my 330 back.

The x1 is actually quite fun to drive in sport mode just has a huge turbo delay but the handling is classic BMW
Huge turbo delay?????? I have zero issue with the acceleration in sport mode.

These electric handbrakes, do they automatically release? If so do all manufactures do automatically release handbrakes.
They do ..once you step on the gas and start movies .not sure about others this one does.
How bad is the tyre noise? And is it lowered with some different tyres?
Tyre noise is fine so long as you don't have run flats. RFTs also make you feel every rock or tiny bump on the road. I'll be switching my RFTs for regular tires once they wear down.
How is the adaptive cruise control? Is this camera based system reliable?
xrambo it will shut off in low sun light conditions and it won’t work at all in (heavy) fog conditions. Otherwise, it works fine.

I have a 2016 BMW 318d and I love it except for one problem, the drivers seat is really uncomfortable while driving long distances. Is the drivers seat in the X1 18d comfortable and would you recommend an automatic in comparison to a manual gear shift ? I'd appreciate your honest opinion, thanks. Sept,. 2019.

Noise?. Not mine
I currently drive a Qashqai Tekna 1.5 diesel fitted with 360 degree reversing camera, front sensors, front emergency braking and lumbar adjustment. Recently I had a drive in the C1. Lovely car, very quiet (petrol model), and handles well, but No reversing camera, No emergency braking (I'm surprised at that) or no front sensors or lumbar support adjustment. For what is supposed to be a more 'up market' car than the Qashqai, I'm shocked. I would need to think twice before I would buy one.

No,bmw recommends no towing with this,personally i think it could handle a small trailer,2K would be the absolute max i imagine.

My BMW dealer service associate said, if you want realiabily go and buy Lexus or Toyota or Chevy. Is that true?. I bought BMW X1. Day after the free service is over at 40K mileage dealer said there is oil leakage from the engine. Very disappointed with BMW X1. Very unreliable vehicle as per BMW service associate.

It's a good thing for 2nd buyers I suppose. You'll be able to buy it 1 year old for 60% of what the 1st buyer got it for. I think it's a very nice, practical car.
Audi or BM... both incredibly boring cars built for boring suburbanites with no style or individuality.

I remember a time when BMW reviews were a guy (or girl) driving a BMW on a bendy road with a big smile on their face. Now it's the same as any other car - cup holder this, infotainment that, leg room the other. Why don't I have a new generation BMW again?

The old x1 was disappointing to drive so they made it worse and now nobody complains anymore. It was on a 3 series platform, now it sits on a Mini platform.

You could save a hell of a lot of money and get everything as standard by buying the Mazda CX3 in Sport Nav trim. But y'know badge snobs .
Granted the CX3 is too small, but then you could go for the CX5 and for like for like you would still save over £13k and get everything this car has as standard. Sorry to hear about your problems with the X1...I agree that the cars in this segment are really boring practical lumps of metal.

that infotainment system you say it was easy to use is what make me stopped me from buying this car . it's even worse than honda's system . not to mention volvo or tesla
iDrive is actually really good. Takes about 10 minutes to learn.

The Infiniti Q30 and QX30 leave this far behind in terms of head-turning looks and sumptuous interior. Fabulous suspension,too. Looks expensive on paper butdealers are very, very flexible. Can we not get away from the same dreary old faithfuls motor g journalists go around on, please? That side view of the X1shows it to be plug ugly. Do BMW employ designers for this range?

It looks like a people carrier not an SUV. Another boring German effort. Who on earth would want one of these when you can have an Alfa Stelvio? Or save thousands and go for the incredibly capable new Jeep Compass just launched.

george mcray most of the cars in this segment are devoid of individuality. The 'premium' badges try to fob you off with the same equipment you'd get as standard on any 'lesser' badge. I wouldn't recommend an Alfa, granted it looks better tgan this beamer but thats it, looks. At the end of the day its just as guilty as all the german brands at shilling premium against bang for buck. No badge in the small SUV provides anything close to individuality, my advice to anyone eould be ignore the badge and look at what you get for your money as looks and styling fade if you are caught with a hefty options bill or repair bills.
Lol there is bunch of hateful brits on here. The car is great. Its capable on and off road and its reliable. The price is not bad as the rest of the bunch including land rover. Bmw does not lose value as fast as audi. Lol bunch of haters. The car delivers on and off road. Someone said mazda. Its useless offroad. Its not loud....... haters. One good british car???
