- Part 3 of our star wars tactics series. This time we go to the forest moon of endor, the pivotal battle of the original trilogy and return of the jedi. There's tons of awesome things going on but also a lot of terrible military decisions. We'll take a look a look at it all.

Even as a kid, I was somewhat taken aback by how the super star destroyer was disabled by destroying the command deck. One would think that such a massive ship would have multiple fail safes to prevent total loss of control. It's like the ship was designed by Galen Erso or something.
+Adam Jensen lol yea it does have auxiliary bridges and stuff but they say it was in the middle of maneuvers. This is why I love eu and the books they always try so hard to fix errors in the movies.
Adam Jensen Well in the EU it was also said that the engine was also somewhat destroyed which means that two important things destroyed means the ship goes down
It is not only that. It's engines were almost disabled and had many other damages, destroying it's deck was simply the last thing needed to take it down
It did, but they didn't have time to correct its descent.
A better question is: How did the SSD get so close to the Death Star II in the first place!?
Retcons are beautiful things to nerds like us :')
And that's a great question @HaloModder555 If the engines were disabled and the ship was falling due to gravity, wouldn't it plummet into Endor or the moon? But eh, it's a deep hole trying to nitpick the scientific accuracy of Star Wars.
Imagine this: *Thrawn's ship jumps out of hyperspace, Thrawn is Sipping His coffee*
*All that he finds is the remains of the imperial navy*
*He Spits his coffee out*
Thrawn: WTF Happened here?!?
Gilad Pellaon : I think we missed something important, Grand Admiral.
Kevin Montrond yeah
LOL LMAO!! XD
A good ewok is dead ewok.
thrawn:shit I'm late
(jumps out of hyperspace)
😐 wonder if the chiss have an opening?
Elsewhere in Star Wars lore, it is mentioned that using small support ships like frigates and corvettes was one of Admiral Akbar's tactical strengths. The small ships would shelter behind the larger capitol ships, then dash forward to hit weak points, like engines. It was called the Akbar slash.
Except that capital ship got surrounded by a lot of star destroyer. And the capital ship will not last long.
Just belive it. Star wars written by plot armor.
If you’ve seen rogue one, at the end when the star destroyer Vader commands warps in, most frigates get wrecked and destroyed. Now let’s look at this. The overwhelming amount of destroyers would destroy all frigates protecting the MC.
"He and his master carefully and slowly engineered one of the most brilliant takeovers and coups in Star Wars History.."
Shows Palpatine and cuts away into a shot of Jar Jar Binks... Brilliant!
Jar Jar is theorized to be a Sith Lord. Notice how he is entrenched in the rebel alliance but every time he is trusted he "messes it up" and they forgive him. every. damn. time. mind tricks and cover stories. He is never attacked/targeted by imperial droids.
I loved that moment too. Great video
Da Force is maxi big
@@KaDaJxClonE He is also directly responsible for the senate giving Palpatine absolute power
"if Thrawn were in command of this battle"
the Death Star, let alone the Death Star 2 wouldn't have been built in the first place
Ajap. Thrawn clearley saw the two Stations as what they are. A Waste of resurces and time. I would have put that money into STar Destroyers ore better training facilities ore hell into better Tie Fighters
@@neptuneplaneptune3367 He'd prob divert the resources needed to make those superweapons to making TIE Defenders, the best counter to the Rebel force.
Thrawn is a gigachad
"Grand Admiral why are you not powering the Death Stars main weapons"
"their is no need for such wasteful and pointless displays of destruction"
the 501st at that time is a mere shadow of the once famous 501st back in the clone wars
+ange vilkiss clones make the best soldiers. Like they say stormtroopers trained for war. First order stormtroopers raised for war. Clone troopers made for war
Let's not forget one of the legends now says that Rex was with the pathfinders on Endor. He would have known the prefered battle tactics of the all clone 501st and was a great tactician himself.
Generation Tech While I agree with your statement about the clones, there is nothing stating the troops on Endor were the 501st. Also, the entire legion that was sent was not concentrated around that single bunker in the movie, most were at the main installation or out scouting somewhere else. The rebels and ewoks really only defeat a mere (200ish?) troops.
Generation Tech Did Palpatine really lose his mind?????
and putting shield generators in multiple locations would of worked???,

I never realized that thin spire on the Death Star was supposed to be the emperor's throne room.
Looked like a common traffic control tower to me.
Only bigger and more imperial.
The Jedi had a similar tower on their temple.
Where can you see it? I never spotted it😂
yeah, news to me too
"As the CEO of this company, I demand that my office atop this multistory skyscraper have a perilous open pit that leads DIRECTLY down into the furnace room in the basement for no utilitarian or aesthetic reason whatsoever....." Basically.
save on hr cost?
No self respecting supervillain would have an office without a death trap
Ashwin Arun Clearly Palpatine hasn’t read the Evil Overlord List
HAHAHAHHA, you are funny, dude XD
lmao
I remember in one of the Legends novels, Thrawn had roughly the same criticism regarding the placement of the shield generator. He wanted to burn away the forest for a hundred miles around, and correctly assumed that the Ewoks would be a threat.
Upon seeing the Ewoks, most Imperial commanders would have assumed that they were not a threat and ignored them.
This is why we have lost. Because our chain of command is made of incompetent idiots.
Grand Admiral, not exactly low ranked.
D3rpy B34n he wasn't yet grand admiral in the choices of one. he was just a captain of a star destroyer.
Thrawn became a Grand Admiral around the time of the Battle of Hoth. His reflection on the Battle of Endor occurred in _Choices of One_. Thrawn was a Senior Captain in _Choices of One_.
At least one of these statements must be incorrect because Endor was one year _after_ Hoth.
He was right about Thrawn having the rebels beat in a matter of minutes.
Minutes may be a bit of an insult or thrawn He could probably have the battle won before it even started
I believe getting close to the Death Star is a mistake because while it was in development it still was heavily armed 15,000 heavy turbolasers 15,000 standard turbolasers 7,500 laser cannons and 5,000 ion cannons (Wookieepedia) so that's a bad plan
EXACTLY. I'm surprised there are so few comments about this idiotic statement in an otherwise good analysis. The shield was still up, which was the reason they turned away, NOT because they somehow realized it was operational. And even if it were down, as you said, that thing had enough "close range" defenses to wipe out most of the rebel fleet. What was left by the time they neutralized the nearby defenses wouldn't be enough to take on the imperial fleet waiting for them.
Sean Duarte i thought the exact same thing!
And there's the whole shield limiting how close you can get
how about that 25% of the Death Star with all those hallways exposed, little way did the Empire put turbo lasers or point defense weapons on that did they?
Sean Duarte Besides, if they stay around the Star Destroyers the Death Star couldn't shot at them.
According to Wookiepedia, the ground force on Endor was called "Tempest Force" and did NOT comprise the 501st. It was a hodge podge task force of ground units from the different branches of the Imperial military.
So in a nutshell the Emperor's plans failed because he was overconfident, I guess Luke was right lol
yea way to overconfident
Emperor plan fail because of plot armor of rebel.
CrualBirab everyone in the empire was overconfident, we’ll besides thrawn.
Your idea for the rebels to fly closer to the Death Star would have been impossible. The shield was still up, so they could not get any closer than they were. Being stuck in the killing ground that had been set up was foolish, so they decided to charge the only position they could.
You also missed Luke's big blunder. He knew Vader had detected him, so he should have realized there was a trap the second they were given clearance to land. Then again, he had so much on his mind it probably didn't occur to him, but he probably should have mentioned it to the others.
Well, they could have at least orbited the station to the opposite side of the big laser.
Simon Nielsen good point about the luke thing. never thought of that. the fact that Vader knew all along should have tipped luke off
Well Luke does say he shouldn't be there as he feels Vader. Yet Han was insistent that it was all in Luke's head, saying that there are dozens of command ships in the Imperial fleet. So I'm not sure if Luke would have been able to convince anyone to abort the mission at this point. They were already there and the Rebel fleet was prepping to head out. They wouldn't call off such a golden opportunity just on the fact that Luke had a bad feeling.
eXcommunicate1979 I imagine the Imperial fleet was also working to keep the rebels hemmed inside the superlaser's targeting cone.
@@eXcommunicate1979 Yes, I've been thinking that, too: stay on the other side of the Death Star.
Everything here sounds about right. I would have expected that the Super Star Destroyer would have done more damage to the Death Star then a big plastic model meeting concrete. I think the Rebel fleet hugging the Death Star would have been funny.
Darth Vader- "Uhhhh, that's new."
Emperor- "Dammit! That's the union side of contruction. I know they are behind schedule... uhhh!"
Luke- (to Crimson Guard) "Can I get a Dr Pepper?... Thank you. (pause) Who wants some Ewok jerky?
They all eat in awkward silence.
This is about as realistic as the original movie plot.
I'm reading this in the Robot Chicken Star Wars voices because it's exactly the kind of skit they'd do.
Also, it's a lot _more_ realistic than the actual plot of the film.
6:42
true, thrawn could've kicked the rebels asses, but the big thing that would lead thrawn to lose to them in ep6 is plot armor for the rebels.
Going by the EU, Mara Jade could have stopped them at Jabba's sail barge. Thrawn could have defeated them at Endor. Going by the movies, it was just a great ending to a great trilogy.
The dark side always makes a super impressive weapon and insists on putting a self destruct button on it you'd think over the course of 3 super weapons they'd learn
The Empire and First Order do seem to be big fans of putting instakill weakness holes on their gigantic superweapons
Lord Frostwind First Order nope. The thermal oscillator on Starkiller Base was heavily armoured. If not for Chewie blowing up the interior, the Resistance would have failed.
The First Order did not make the same mistake. The shields only went down because they held Captain Phasma at gunpoint.
So what? Why should any single person have the ability to put the shield down?
Because she was one of the highest ranking officers in the First Order.
if only thrawn had been in command of the battle! good job on the video, very accurate in my opinion
+TheTrueJustice thanks yea I wonder where he is now during the battle in the new canon
Generation Tech very good question. As you said, it would have been a very different outcome with him in command.
Generation Tech I agree with you and btw I love ur videos 😉
Well I hope Disney gives Timothy's zahn that trilogy he wants
Generation Tech Thrawn is a punk, they already had two superior Grand Admirals as Endor, and the only reason the Empire lost was because Luke came to the battle. If he didn't his friends wouldn't have escaped the ewoks. Also the ground tram that came with Luke didn't face the whole elite ground force on Endor. A good portion of it went of looking for rebels after finding look, they had ATAT, and other Special Forces with them, like Inferno Squadron, the economic version of Dark Troopers, maybe some actual Dark Troopers, maybe NAVY Commandos, and at least 1 Storm Commando was confirmed at the bunker.
"Palpatine was a brilliant strategic mind especially when he was the underdog one of only two Sith Lords in the entire galaxy. He and his master carefully and slowly engineered one of the most brilliant takeovers and coos in Star Wars History, but after a few decades of peace and fighting poorly on freedom fighters I believe the old man had lost his mind..."
XD
That made me laugh.
But hugging too closely to the Deathstar would leave the Rebels vulnerable to it's surface-to-air defenses such as turbo cannons.... Agreed on Palpatine's insane ideas and penchant flair for the dramatic. He was brilliant at orchestrating long range plans that pitted factions against one another, removing political rivals, and concentrating power in himself, but he was just damn impractical at leading pitched military conflicts. Oh, and in defense of Palpatine's throne room on the Deathstar II, it was only a temporary throne room established for just this battle & moment the Emperor masterminded, purely to assist in turning Luke to the dark side. According to the Imperial Death Star Owners Manual that Lucasfilm & Haynes Publishing partnered on a few years back anyways.
The novelization for ROTJ states Palpatine had no desire to ever live onboard any spacecraft that mandated such a spartan lifestyle be led. 'Ol Sheev liked the finer things in life, growing up as he did in the wealthy Palpatine dynasty. He needed his culture fix- trips to the opera, symphony music, books, art, and fine cuisine or else he wouldn't be there.
Yes Palpatine's plans were utterly brilliant. But he should not have tried to micromanage this battle. Ultimately though that fool on Endor opened the back door. Without that the Rebels would have been obliterated. Or else Luke should have joined Vader. As Emperor (natural successor and widely accepted as second in command), Vader and Luke (or else Vader can hand over to his son) would run a benevolent Empire free of the overconfidence of Palpatine and tolerance of Tarkin, and free of the corruption and apathy of the old Republic and Mothmas of the galaxy.
Had the Imperial Fleet not been restrained, surely they would have obliterated the Rebels if they had been in "battle mode" versus spectator mode. With or without the Death Star.
Palpatine should simply have observed from a safe distance aboard his luxury flagship. Whilst Vader and others get on with wiping out the Rebel scum seeking to reintroduce chaos. Same thing happened with Tarkin. In his stupidity he didn't even launch TIE fighters. It was left to a commander desperately seeking out Lord Vader to request that they try to do something.
Great post, wonderful points.
Though bubble of the three of them looking out the window watching the space battle.
Luke," The greatest star fighter battle in the pass 20 years and I am standing here."
Vader," The greatest fleet battle in the pass 20 years and I am standing here."
The Emperor," I think I will like some pop corn as I watch the greatest space battle in history." Now my young friend you will watch the imperial fleet etc, etc,....
Luke/ Vader," This old guy talks more than Leia does. I need to find something else to do other than look out the window. Got It !
Light Saber Fight Time !!
Emperor, deep sigh.. big smile," Like Father, Like Son. It is a great day."
@@darkjediknight2923 I see you've been seduced by the dark side of the Force.
Indeed I would have won
Grand Admiral Thrawn I would win not you
Wait. What? No. You are just another clone who tries to pretend to be me...
Grand Admiral Thrawn then why are you the non canon Thrawn
Because Legends is life, and Thrawn is the Legend
Grand Admiral Thrawn lol
If Thrawn had been in charge, the Rebellion would have been finally crushed. Hell, any of Palpatine's Grand Admirals (minus Il Raz. He was more of a flunky than a military commander) would have seized the moment and crushed the Rebels. The Rebellion won because of luck, the element of surprise, and most of all, Palpatine's hubris.
Mike Aponte No, Palpatine respects and needs him but since, Non alien species policy for military service, he only used Thrawn for knowledge in the Unknown regions mostly. Hell even human Admirals lower than his rank disobey him.
Mike Aponte Do you think the empire would've won with Vader in charge?
Unfortunately for the Empire, Thrawn was in the Unknown Regions fortifying and building the Empire of the Hand. What does baffle me is why Grand Admirals Declann and Teshik, both very gifted military commanders, couldn't muster a strong offense against the Rebels. Granted, it is known Palpatine did coordinate his assets with The Force, but it does make me wonder how the hell can they still lose to a badly outnumbered Rebel Fleet.
And @Frank Dees, if Vader were to lead the Empire, that's bad news for the Rebellion. Vader was a competent military commander and a keen strategist himself. Unlike Palpatine, who prefers to gloat and show off to Rebels about the futility of resistance, Vader wants to crush any resistance in the most efficient and brutal manner.
What would you think of of someone like Admiral Daala being in command here? Granted, she was heedless, blunt, and generally threw tactical flair to the wind, giving her a mostly mixed (slightly more negative) record. However, she was also energetic, decisive, and boldness personified, always going straight for the jugular (sometimes to the point of recklessness). I can see all of that working well in this scenario, as opposed to Piett's caution and Palpatine's idiosyncracies.
nuclearguy165 Well, if Admiral Natasi Daala was there, she'd definitely be charging headfirst. As you said, she's heedless, bold, decisive, and most of all, reckless. At the same time, she's a very shrewd and crafty tactician. Her biggest weakness is that she lacked a Grand Admiral's tactical acumen, patience, and restraint. Not to mention she literally has no battlefield experience an officer of equal rank (like Admiral Piett) would possess.
Honestly, a Battle of Endor under Daala would be a bloody stalemate. Neither the Rebels and the Imperial Fleet would truly gain a decisive victory. If anything, it could be a phyrric victory for the Imperials at the cost of nearly half of the task force. Rebels would only get badly hammered but a crafty tactician like Admiral Ackbar would live to fight another day along with whatever is left of his fleet.
I have three points of contention with your assessment of Lando's decision. The first being that they had reason to believe that the Death Star was incapable of engaging them (it was something made clear repeatedly, and that a lot of effort and sacrifice was made to indicate this).
Secondly, the shields were not detected. Lando observed the conditions in play indicated a shield was up, but no vessels detected it. As a result, there was no ultimate limit they could determine as a safe zone to 'hug' the Death Star. Between directional weapons and an invisible field of death, one is easier to avoid than the other.
Finally, there was no reason for the Star Destroyers not to shoot at the Death Star while the shields were up: planetary based shields are extremely resilient, and even a Star Destroyer's fire power is unable to pierce it (established in Empire Strikes Back). Indeed once the Star Destroyers are engaged, they clearly have no problem shooting back, and it's almost certain that several their shots still hit the Death Star. In fact, Lando fully expected the Star Destroyers to fire on them despite their position (and commented on it during the battle).
overconfidence happens quite often, remember the scene with peter cushing. The intelligence tells him ''We analysed the situation and there is a danger, shall i prepare a transport?" But he just dismissed him. That was an amazing little scene.
well, if you consider the fact that the empire has an entire galaxy to control, its not hard to see why so few ships had ever been amassed. leaving areas un-attended, and the cost and time it would take to get some ships from across the galaxy, when you realistically dont need a huge force.
The most(remaining) powerful weapon in the Galaxy, the only Sith that could swing a lightsaber, the big man himself, a chance to crush the rebel alliance, a chance to get a new apprentice (one far younger and more powerful)
That's a lot of good reasons to get a lot more ships in place
So one piece of criticism, that I understand missing since the movie doesn't really make it clear, is that the Rebels couldn't get close to the Death Star II until the shields were taken down. The shield created an invisible physical barrier, that's why the Rebels needed to use a stolen Imperial transport to even get close to the Moon of Endor. I imagine that if Lando hadn't sensed the trap, all those Rebel fighters would have just slammed into the shield like some of the fighters did in Rogue One. And the reason why Lando called for the Rebel fleet to get super close to the Star Destroyers is because otherwise their biggest ships were sitting ducks, trapped between a Death Star with an operational super laser and Star Destroyers preventing their escape. At least at point blank range, the Rebels figured the Death Star wouldn't fire on their own men or if they did, at least take out some of the Star Destroyer's with them (this one is explicitly stated).
I do agree that the Empire had some bizarrely bad tactics.
Palpatines had his office there because even if his tower was shot he could just do a Princess Leia and get back to the Death Star.
The 501st in the clone wars were brutal soldiers that are fearless. In the empire, they run away from teddy bears...I hope they are not the same people
Why do the Rebels say Allahu Akbar at 7:32
Darth Vader terrorist to the Empire. and all I gotta say is Death to the rebellion!!
We shall build the Death Star and the rebel scums shall pay for it!!
All Hail the Empire Lord Vader!!

Greatness is never appreciated by the mad.
Grand admiral Thrawn if the Emperor gave you a Eclipse SSD you'd be very effective to the empire
Grand admiral Thrawn, you're the best tactician in the universe! You destroyed an entire fleet with just 3 ships!
That is why I respect you Grand Admiral. Palpatine was horrible leader, even back during the days of the Republic, when I was a Jedi Knight, but that's what happens to most sith, They become arrogant, and selfish, making them horrible leaders. The Empire would be able to succeed if our leaders weren't arrogant, and Xenophobic.
7:35 allahu akhbar in the background. GenerationTech, you made my day.
admiral ackbar 😳
In the movie, the problem was that the shield was still up, and they would have crashed if they got closer.
Especley because the Shield was not detectable. It didnt show up on ther Sensores at all so they had no idea where exactley the Shield startet. The risk was way too high to accidenteley crash into it.
7.31 is epic
+andrea tidu very sharp hearing you have
Thanks hahahaha
You know you love this channel if you come here 1 minute after the video has been uploaded.
Nah, who am I kidding I am on always on CZcams.
I always assumed the shield would physically prevent hostile ships getting close to the death star, and the urgency of turning away from it was for fear of smashing against it.
Is it me, or did the Calamari seem to invest the most in the war against the Empire. Without their capital ships, the alliance wouldn't have had much of a chance. I tend to think they got (or should have gotten) a lot after the Empire was defeated. At the very least, their influence should have increased substantially.
Those troopers belonged to the 501st? 😮😮😮
Edwin ZX yup
"An entire legion of my best troops await them". So, yes, it's supposed to be the cream of Imperial ground forces
I dont know if its still canon. Could be any troops.
"An entire legion of my best troops await them." That can also only mean that there are Stormtroopers which had elite status.
I find very few references to the 501st after Hoth. It is my opinion that the emperor disbanded the 501st. ( Again) to limit Vader's authority. And after Hoth the Empire looses at least on ship. Had they recovered the Hoth ground troops when it exploded? ...
I can't believe he said they were 501st like WTF!? they got meme'd by teddy bears that's some BS right there. What a ridiculous way for the 501st to go.
4:40 A flight of TIEs at the back just appear out of thin air.
You understand of course, that was a limitation of film technology at the time, yes?
I feel slightly insulted,
But yes of course. Just merely pointing it out.
I assure you it was not intended as an insult.
Pretty sure that's how it appeared in the Original Cut of the film way back in '81.
That's just an indication of how fast they were moving.
I have to say, I’ve been a fan from the very beginning. I was 9 years old when Star Wars came out. I’m now 50. I really do enjoy this channel and have to say, your thoughts on all of this keeps me thinking and entertained. Keep up the good work.
this honestly one of the best star wars videos online! good job👍
The one thing that always confused me was why the rebels just didn't send a ship or some X-Wings down to destroy the shield generator. Since the shield generator doesn't have a shield of it's own it could have been easily destroyed. With some good timing send in a few X-Wings to blow up the shield generator as the Rebel fleet comes out of hyper space to blow up the Death Star. And with the Imperial fleet on the other side of the planet the Rebels could have blown up the Death Star before the Imperial fleet could have come around to trap them.
If you look at the primitive CGI from Return of the Jedi, it appears as if the shield generator itself has some protection. Also, the facility itself had armor so thick that they needed to go inside and plant charges within the building. More important, the rebels didn't realize that the shields were already up until their first attack.
that would be too easy the imps had to deactivate the shield to get through to endor
Besides the alraedy mentioned points. The Empire could simply intercept the Rebel ships.
its pretty clear the generator has shields that protect it.
The generators shield surrounds the generator and extends upward to surround the DSII, you can see that during Mothma's explanation.
ewok's were to powerfull to be left alive
I just realized you deserve my subscription . Keep em coming
Someone once told me that the history of battles is the study of making mistakes. I suspect that what he meant was that one of the main purposes of strategy is to get the opposition to make mistakes while reducing your own. The battles that you've covered in this series could be a prime example of that philosophy.
Why is this channel not the biggest in the world? You're so good
+Ahsoka Tano thanks Ashoka tell me what happens in the next season of rebels?
Generation Tech sorry, I can't, I will be fired If anyone finds out. Its Disney😕
I swear, if they turn you into a wolf general...
Captain Rex I know what you mean.
Captain Rex Yeah, man, that would be really boring, mainly because I wouldn't have any work to do (the most wolfs can't speak)
Theory: The entire battle of Endor was rebel propaganda and in reality was a lot more bloody with a lot more rebels on the ground and in space. On the ground it was like a WWI battle with trenches and stuff. In space it was like the battle of coruscant with ships everywhere and ships crashing into each other and complete chaos. All in all, there was massive loss of life with the rebles barely succeeding. The death star would've been a lot weaker and this entire movie was trying to make the rebels look strong.
I loved your video. Thanks for the effort man.
overconfidence and arrogance was the emperor's weakness. and as far as the star destroyers thy were concerned with numbers and didn't worry about multiple locations for command bridges
The reason why they attacked the star destroyer at point blank range as Lando says that is so the Death Star didn't fire more because the star destroyers were in the way. As lando says "get closer tho those star destroyers and attack from point bank range. Because we will live longer then against that Death Star.
7:34 Did those men just scream 'allahu ahkbar?'
Sir Hoovy the sandvich dispenser yep
"Hello friends. Welcome back to another episode of Generation Tech, my name is Allen."
"Hi Allen!" (waves)
It still isn't confirmed whether or not the 501st was ever in Endor. There's no material covering that topic, and most of them retired after the battle of hoth. It's hinted that they were on the Death Star though.
*Another great one.*
"The old man had lost his mind"

Sir if there's two things I love, it's strategies and Star Wars! You've combined both of them! Tip of the hat to you!!
Fracking awesome, dude!!!
I just noticed that the Emperor's throne room is just like the jedi council room on the jedi temple. It is elevated upwards and has the same shape at the top, but the inside (obviously) is completely different.
Wait... a planet called, THE FOREST MOON OF ENDOR has savannas? isn't it a FOREST MOON? So shouldn't there only be FORESTS?
@pyropulse It's funny that OP called it a planet and then immediately said it was called the forest MOON of Endor.
Ah yes, multiple degenerates grasping on one thing
Love your vids. Keep it up!
Oh it's one of those "if I were there, i would have won it all" videos. Well thanks for your tactical mastermind colonel Genius.
Didn't the Super Star Destroyer crash after the Emperor was killed?
No, the Emperor was still alive, then the Shields went down, and they forced the Super Star Destroyer into the surface when that one guy destroyed it's Bridge. That have the Rebels big advantage, and they win.
@@avis21X Wrong. The second the Super Star Destroyer crashed into the Death Star, the very next clip is of Vader on the floor with Luke dragging him. He’d already killed the emperor.
7:32
"ALLAHU AKBAAAR!" is heard in the background.
American Patriot in Colorado yeah it is that ancient religion instead of becoming force ghosts they get some orgy with 72 virgins reverse gang bang
I thought that his articulation of the strategy pros and cons was well stated and on point. I agree with him on all points.
Great Generation Tech episode !
In choices of one Thrawn gave his opinion about what to do with the shield generator.
If I remember right wasn't it to level a few hundred kilometers of forest then put the shield generator in the middle or was that just Canderous Ordo and the Mandolorians plan to invade Kashyyyk? Makes sense, if you don't need to conceal the generator then leave it on open ground where the enemy has to charge your guns without the cover and concealment of the forest. If you combine that tactic with the network idea, you can even conceal the back ups and leave on standby should any problems arise at the main facility would be a pretty sound strategy, but again tactics vs plot.
clearly palpatine being around 120 years old had gone senile
can't wait for the Generation Tech movie....IT'S SURE TO BE AMAZING!
Jai friendsh welcome back to another epishode of Generation tecsh! hahaha never gets old
4:05 holy shit, I never realized just how out of scale the Nebulon B in that scene was.
Sooo true. The Nebulon B should of been much smaller compared to the Star Destroyer (not to mention completely out-gunned).
Lucas, you have failed us for the last time...
starwars.wikia.com/wiki/EF76_Nebulon-B_escort_frigate
The main inspiration for the Star Wars saga the Vietnam war. George Lucas was fascinated by how the Viet Cong consisting of a small band of rebels with limited firepower was able to fight off the United States military machine. The battle between the rebel alliance and the Galactic Empire was based around that concept. It was a David and Goliath story line. That metaphor was present throughout the saga from a single X Wing Fighter destroying the Death Star to the Ewoks defeating the Imperial Storm Troopers on Endor. These are real world concepts.
The reason Navies don't use Battle Ships anymore is because all it takes is one small, fast, highly maneuverable boat with a torpedo to sink them. Even US Air Craft Carriers with all their firepower are unable to defend themselves. When they go out to sea they are surrounded by a fleet of smaller ships whose sole job is to protect the Carrier.
This was the whole point the Star Wars saga was trying to make.
He was actually inspired by World War 2. Due to the fact that the rebels were more like the French resistance and Nazi Germany as the galactic empire
The problem is that, we are not talking about guerrilla warfare, but about an assault against an supposedly fortified position by an force with less armament and organization than the VC against an opponent with 1000x the firepower of US troops in Vietnam, witch makes it unbelievable.
@pyropulse Rebels Won because The Emperor, While a master Politician, was a Horrible tactician that had a thing for torturing Blondes, and Giant Chasms.
a few small issues but overall your spot on well done as a star wars lover and student of warfare this is very refreshing.
The problem with moving the fleet closer to the death star is that you then have to contend with the hive of turbo lasers covering it. You've just sandwiched yourself between a giant ball of guns and a giant wall of guns. The star destroyers have no reason to NOT fire so long as the impenetrable shield is still up. Best option is to move away and just maneuver away from the main gun of the death star.
The 501st legion??! were they still clones? and since rex was there ( old bearded rebel, confirmed canon) did he have any hard feelings?
By the time Episode 6 came around all of the clones would've been replaced. Most were replaced before Episode 4. There may have been a few, but probably not. The legion was still known as Vader's Fist/501st, although it seems the ones who earned the name Vader's Fist were all gone or dead by then.
In cannon, only parts of certain units were Clone only(501st)
In legends, 1/3 of the Stormtroopers were Jango Fett clones
In Both Disney and Legends the 501st had very few clones left, besides the heavy combat attrition the clones were designed more or less to be gradually phased out "naturally" thanks to minor defects and their accelerated aging.
Ben in the Imperial uniform. xD Omg I knew it.
yea right he is an imp all right
I've never seen Gen Custer in a Star Wars video until tonight. Well done.

" i believe the old man lost his mind" and the follow up roast of palpadaddy killed me for some reason😂
Wow, Alan! you are half my age but know 5 time more about Star Wars than I do!
Amazing channel!
haha no i just have a lot of free time on my hands. Thanks for comment!
Sorry but your assessment of the tactics are wrong. The Rebel fleet closed with the Imperials because of the fact the death star had taken out 2 rebel capital ships, with the clear and stated intention to force the empire to either stop firing the super laser or take out their own capital ships in the process , and this was effectively what happened. The rebel fleet made good use of the tactical options available to them under the circumstances given they did not know that a large number of imperial capital ships would be waiting for them , nor did they know the death star would be in working order, they did know of the inflexibility of imperial strategy and the use of aggressive offensive action would push the imperial fleet to break up.
Yea, no clue how he missed that or the reason for the Rebels pulling off their initial attack(some of them actually ran right into the shield in the novelization).
Watching this video and then reading people’s responses pissed me off because it seems everyone forgot the facts you mentioned: 1) The shield was still up 2) Admiral Ackbar states “it’s a trap!” meaning he knew they had become pinned between the Death Star and it’s superweapon and the fleet with Interdictor cruisers which would prevent them from escaping via a hyperspace jump, 3) The Death Star was actively targeting capital ships, its range was limited by its positioning, yes, but it was in no way “fixed” and unable to fire anywhere but in a perfectly straight line 4) Lando gives his entire logic behind directly engaging the Imperial Fleet i.e. avoid the Death Star and “take some of them with us.” Thank you for actually know what you were talking about!
Been out for 2 minutes and has 45k views good job CZcams
Great analysis. "Plasma enema". Good one
Alan you're the best person on generation tech
Yeah I always wondered why the rebel fleet didn't try and get BEHIND the death star to avoid the super laser. I can't imagine that thing turns around very quickly, after all its designed as a planet killer, not an anti-ship cannon.
Karagianis The Death Star still rotates at a noticeable speed. They would be safe for a few seconds before being in the sights of the superlaser.
We never saw anything in the movies or shows to indicate that the Death Star could rotate 180 degrees in a few seconds.
Actually the Death Star has alot of Turbolasers who would shred any larger ship.
Karagianis the death star was also designed to counter capital ships. In Yavinx the Alliance was able to destroy it because of smaller agile ships.
They would then be chased by the imperial fleet. The Star Destroyers were there to prevent them to get away
mistakes were made, but can you really blame the emperor? he was about to win, until his backstabbing apprentice threw him in a hole.
You mean until his apprentice finally have the Highground
High Ground for Anakin at last
the end music is emotionally epic.
“No plan survives contact with the enemy because the enemy was never consulted.”
It's called the forest moon of endor your thinking of endor itself not the forest moon, note forest
Officially it's called the Sanctuary Moon.
Yep the Battle of Endor was a total wuz for the Empire. Those Fuzzballs kills the top elite 501st Legion? Then the Storm Troopers are ridiculous weaklings, they deserved there fate to be eaten from those Ewoks fuzzballs.
Then the Imperial Fleet...well it´s all explained in this video.
If stormtrooper armor cannot withstand stone-age weapons, why did the rebels use blasters. They could just throw stones at them or hit them with sticks.
Disney should have declared ROTJ a bad dream or something and rebooted the movie instead of doing sequels. ROTJ needs to be taken out of Star Wars canon and done again. When you watch the movie you immediately realize that Lucas got bored with the franchise and just wanted to finish it, no matter how. The movie simply does not fit into the Star Wars universe.
Yep getting closer to the death star gun batteries... that is an excellent idea
The reason why the primitive weapons of the Ewoks worked was because the armor that the Stormtroopers wore was made of plastoid. Basically it was very good at dispersing the energy of blaster fire, but was not as effective against simple blunt force trauma.
Anyone else wondering why they always send in gr75 transports?
true, but that doesn't explain their use at scarrif though
They were packed with explosives and piloted by remote, sidle one up to an ISD and boom.
they were lightly armed, I believe atleast 2 lasers, however of they had an intended suicide ship purpose than there shouldn't have been any left at the end of scarrif or endor
Aaron Lariosa they're sending everything they've got
*Everything wrong with the Battle of Endor*
The Last Jedi: Hold my beer!
*literally worse than the battle of Endor*
Yes
good points. Thought of some of this ...
I sincerely hope JJ doesn't make the Supremacy crash into Starkiller 2 in Episode IX.
