Thanks for having me, Jan! Super fun!
That clutch was insane! Congrats!
I was rooting for you all along, and I had a feeling you'd do well!
Always happy to see you involved in these community based things! Glad you obtained plot armor status
Great performance
I’m so glad you got first. I was rooting for you the whole time, and that clutch was epic. Percentage overflow works every time, baby.
the fact that Flygon was completely stomping actual speed runners is such a testament to just how good he is at Pokemon
Yea but also speedrunners usually aren't actually all that good at the games they play.
@@cptKaminawell there are a lot of aspects of being good at a game, and depending on the game they can definitely be cracked at almost every aspect.
@@Eroil1Ultrakill speedrunners are probably the most skilled players at the game, specially if they are running levels
@@cptKaminahow does that make any sense, i dont think youre aware of how much time speedrunners put into a game they play to master it
@@hosayjosayThe speedrunners pretty much lost because of how used they are to using items in battle.
Just a quick thing if you do this race again, some title cards naming the streamers would be super helpful for the youtube watchers who don’t watch all of them. Love the video though!
I second this, I was also having trouble keeping tack of who is who, tho I still did enjoy this vid. I was also struggling watching his cheater's tournament vid for similar reasons; it was a bit too fast paced with not enough explaining for someone casual like me watching. This one was much easier to understand tho! Love the content anyways.
Yeah I had to use the multistream URL to work out who was who.
I also wish he had some kind of ending commentary to wrap up the video, it ended very abruptly
@@teacup4561yeah I felt the same and the names of you players even just once in the 6 screen the names appearing would have been helpful
Agreed, I only knew Flygon
The Flygon champion fight was legendary. All of his plans crumbling due to getting outsped for some reason and it coming down to pure luck, and the RNG gods smiling upon him. Congrats to him for his victory.
That's one way for me to learn that sharpedo has a base speed of 95, and tentacruel 100... of all pokemon for those stats 😂
The way I popped off for him when he hit those Megahorns 😂
@@HOUROFPOW3Rthat's gamefreak logic for you bro 😂
"Brick Break does at least 34% and thunderbolt did at least 66%", better go megahorn lol
@@RobWirdWachsen yeah he did just straight up mess up the math afaik there, but that's pressure for you
30:40
Whacko staring down a guaranteed KO from Ice Beam and actually landing the Leaf Blade on Kingdra for the win. Dude's got some stainless steel balls.
Man didn't even flinch
And convincing Flygon to go for the Megahorns
I'm pretty sure they're stained steel balls
He had some crazy rng though that run. Never missing key rollouts, hitting through para 4 times in a row. 3 1/6 hits in a row. Crazy.
I'm gonna be 110% honest with you, Whacko was carried by RNG for SO MUCH of this run, and telling Flygon to go for the Megahorns was basically him just using that RNG to help someone else
Flygon may have been first place, but the Nuzlockers wouldn't have won without Whacko's luck XD
Awesome to be a part of this. Even though we didn't win, it was a ton of fun. Super impressed by all the Nuzlockers on how fast they got through things too!
24:30 Whacko rocking the Whitney strats brings a tear to my eye
That Flygon champion fight was a better ending than you possibly could've asked for, holy shit let's go
love when jan uploads a million things at the end of the month for those sweet sweet sponsorship commitments
Based
Seasonal CPM is a definitely a factor. That or Jan just had a bunch of vids being edited at the same time come out at the same time.
@@Waas Nah he did the Nuzzies and this video very recently like last week on stream
December also tends to be the most profitable month for CZcamsrs thanks to all the sponsors and people watching CZcams at the time with holidays and more vacation time
blessed we are that he gets these sponsorships or else us youtube frogs would not be getting much content from him
3 videos in 1 week. Dude Jan is smoking something
Not even 1 week, it's 3 days
It’s heading into December that’s why
Sponsorship deadlines is usually what creators say when they suddenly post a bunch at once
He’s mentioned before (I think on twitter) that he usually posts at the end of the month because it’s when the sponsors are due. He procrastinates the rest of the month then crams them all once the pressure builds enough. No disrespect though, I do the exact same procrastination in my own life
He's on that sponsored video grind
One thing that's so interesting to highlight here is planning in advance vs. relying on luck. Nuzlockes try to minimize luck as much as possible to avoid losing altogether, while speedrunners tend to embrace luck for the purposes of completing the game as fast as possible. It's a high risk = high reward approach, but since Nuzlockers tend to think of the games beyond simply finishing as fast as possible, they tend to be more apt for contingencies and playing the odds when it favors them, ultimately saving time otherwise spent in the end.
That's obviously only scratching the surface, but it was an interesting video! I wouldn't mind seeing more of these types of things for all the other games.
That's actually kinda wrong considering in the video the nuzlockers are the ones that had an insane amount of luck during the whole run
@gjbsarmeri3957
If you fail one luck roll in speedrunning it's over, that approach to the game grants you nothing in a contest where Draft rules are a thing.
This was super exciting Jan! Thank you for putting this together! :)
You also did great man! That plusle was insanelly lucky, congrats on second place!
Second time in a week FlygonHG shows how why heracross is GOATed. That double mega horn was a great way to finish
Especially with the Path of Pain music from Hollow Knight in the background, that was intense.
I never knew how much i needed an nfl red zone for nuzlocke/speedrunning
42:12 This the exact type of mental gymnastics I be using on a hard fight lmao "Because I already hit a Thunder, Megahorn is GUARANTEED to hit here"
11:03 Flygon’s misunderstanding and then slow realization are hilariously perfect here
42:11
Whacko's surfer dude wisdom is just beautiful
"But wouldn't it be cool if I did" is the energy we love to see from FlygonHG
Unreal, respect to all the contestants and especially to Mr. SpeedrunHG
DOCTOR Speedrun HG !!
The ending to these are always so abrupt, wish you had some conversation with the participants afterwards
the ending to your life will be abrupt (may 23rd 2024)
The convo after was mainly just stuff we saw from the povs
@@ichbinschwul187I wish mine was as soon as that
Cause these are half finished videos that Jan forces out because otherwise he loses his sponsors for the month
@@ichbinschwul187what do you know that we all don't?
Nothing will ever beat seeing Flygon hit both Megahorns live.
FYI, it would be helpful to have the name of the person playing under each video, otherwise it's hard to tell who is who.
what do you mean you don't know who bald white guy 42 is
Agreed. I have watched 1 of the 6 people playing. Maybe seen Wacko's face associated with the name before. So being generous I "knew" 2.
I felt it was pretty easy to figure out who was who based on context, but it took a couple minutes to actually get to that point so yeah having the names would be helpful.
there's so many white dudes telling them apart is the real pokemon challenge here
As a FlygonHG enjoyer that insane Wallace is one for the books. Thanks for showing the speed runners AND GarchompFJ what’s up Flygon!!!
To be fair, speedrunners played by nuzlocker's rules. Usually speedrunners use the most optimal strategy, which would involve using a single or very few Pokémon, without any level cap, and free access to the bag. It would be interesting to see this again, but with a more speedrunning oriented rule set
Sure, but they did also have a huge number of potential advantages. Starting access to Mach bike, a draft for pokemon, the removal of a number of forced encounters (Aqua/Magma storyline) This fight, like Jan said, pretty clearly came down to overworld knowledge or boss knowledge and the Nuzlockers killed it.
But no offense to speedrunners but watching 6 people just do a solo run spamming a bunch of X items wouldn't be entertaining to watch.
I’m glad Jan is getting more and more collaborations. I think that being among other Pokémon CZcamsrs really helped improve his continent.
Hay I making animation video
The double pop off at the very end was so satisfying. What a wild final fight.
Hay I making animation video
Nuzlocke draft races are a really fun and under-represented format. I've had an absolute blast running them with my friends.
Flygon foreshadowing the potential throw to Wallace final battle coming down to Megahorn RNG
This is Sports to me. Watching Flygon land those megahorns has gotta be what it feels like to win the superbowl
Love the vid, would appreciate nameplates in future similar videos cause it took me a while to figure out who each pov was cause I’m not familiar with the runners/nuzlockers
This was fire need more of this
The final battle was so intense! congrats to dr. flygonhg
Incredible idea for a video! Please add nametags to the players if you ever plan on doing something similar though
Flygon pushing Nosey lore through a separate channels competition is peak
*Calls himself bald immediately followed by a majestic mane of hair*
"Three of the most prolific speed runners, and three of the sweatiest nuzlockers" 💀 💀 💀 💀
Saw some of this live, so had to come watch the edited video! As a speedrun enjoyer, I'm not too surprised the Nuzlockers outperformed on the battling front-speedrunners have every fight down to a science, but generally with only 1 or 2 specific Pokémon and a lot of X-items. They don't really have to get down into the weeds as much as Nuzlockers do, haha. Everyone did so well though! And GG to Flygon for that insanely clutch finish!
Idk I think speedrunners definitely get down into the weeds. It’s just the weeds aren’t the same as nuzlocke.
Yes wanted to write the same thing. Not beeing allowed to use items in battle and having the lvl cap really shows how much speedrunners rely on 1-2 (most of the time overleveled) pokemon and the use of items to get the insane times they do in the actual speedruns.
Honestly, I think the saving grace here is that speedrunners tend to have more rounded knowledge, i.e. anyone who speedruns professionally has probably dabbled in Nuzlockes and other challenge runs. (I know Pulse, at least, has done competitive battling.) If they'd picked people who **exclusively** do speedruns, there'd be no chance, because the skillset doesn't really require you to be good at battling--just at memorizing inputs.
Are the original vods still available anywhere?
@@elk12429 They're probably still up on Twitch?
Holy hell Flygon's final battle was tense, that had me on the edge of my seat! Awesome playing to everyone!
My bets were on flygon from the start. Speed runners aren't used to crafting for battles where they are unable to use items or heal and can choose to use the most optimal pokemon so they don't have expereince with working with what you're given. Extremely great and hype video to watch and I hope to see more in the future!
I adore FlygonHG. I love to see it.
The paralyzed rollout on Altaria was crazy
Obviously Miltank was stuck in rollout position :P
39:13 - 39:23 this reminded me of why I would love a soul link of you two together
This should have been soullinks between a nuzlocker and a speedrunner each
Ooh, Id love to see something like that
I had no idea who these people were(some name plates would've helped) but this was an amazing roller coaster of a trip. I thought for sure the speed runners were just going to dunk on the nuzlockers after that start. Nuzlockers weren't using their bikes, weren't skipping rival fights, etc... but none of that ended up mattering. Over all solid battles pulled them through in the end. Great vid. Loved it.
Flygon’s finale was so edge of your seat. I love it
Nobody should ever sleep on FlygonHG. HE IS A DOCTOR.
JAN IS FEEDING US.. FINALLY, I WAS STARVING
This was fun to watch! Thank you ‼️
Man the back and forth of that and the drama of the last few minutes was heart pounding, great content from all involved, nice work
Holy shit i was on the edge of my seat for this.
GG to all the participants, and amazing work on presenting this Jan. The commentary and editing was spot on!
This was really great content. Hopefully more like this coming
FlygonHG’s champion fight got my heart pumping! The double Megahorn!
Man what a heartbreak for Gunner, that could have been even closer than what we ended up getting.
I appreciate the content stream of the past few days... 3 videos for the week? dayum
thanks editor and Jan
This was honestly sick. Big props to all the players and you for organizing the event. My boy Flygon earned this one
I love seeing the pokemon community do more challenges and collabs like this. Super dope content!
Flygon cool, calm and collected and then just sending it in the champion fight had me on the edge of my seat
This was awesome. Also loved the editing of letting the intense moments play full screen and then following it up with the reactions! Very smooth
The use of Kirby Air Ride music for the beginning makes me very happy
This was a badass collab. Very fun. That champ fight for Flygon was insanity.
This was great. Probably the most fun I've had watching one of your vids as a semi frequent watcher.
This is the perfect video with the best content creators, thanks pokemonchallenges
Sweaty was one word to describe the nuzlockers when i watched that sponsor lmaooo. Love ur vids mate
I haven’t been this stressed watching a video in a while. Great content
Jan tryna make up for ghosting us for a month
Fantastic video! As someone not familiar with a lot of nuzlockers/speedrunners I wish each of the runners had a name display so I knew who you were referring to throughout the race but it was still a blast to watch!
Flygon played soooo clean throughout the entire run, and only until wallace did he risk wiping. Just from his type-only nuzlockes, you know he does a shit ton of prep before every challenge.
This was my favourite video I've watched in a long time. Such an amazingly close competition. I would love to see more of these in different generations.
Such a great start to the video - watching gunner immediately hit the penjamin during the Wally scene was hilarious
Actually one of the best videos in a while. Absolute blast to watch
Hey Jan of PokemonChallenges. Just wanted to thank you and all the big pokemon Nuzlockers like FlygonHG and Antlerboy. Thanks to watching y'all's educational content I finally completed my first hardcore nuzlocke. And in Pokemon Black 2 (which I saw you rate as pretty difficult in your gens tier list video). I'd been trying to beat a hardcore nuzlocke of Black 2 on and off for the past year or two now and if it weren't for things I learned from y'all like razor fang flinches and having extreme amounts of patience, and of course playing around the crit I don't think I ever would've completed it. So thank you Jan, your content is pretty cool ❤
Genuinely such a great video, that ending was incredible
God what a clutch finish; that was super fun to watch!
that was so exciting to watch! You should do more races :D
I love this shi, and this was still way more entertaining than I thought it'd be. Great content friendo!
Favorite video of yours in awhile - love the collabs
The tension at the end bro with the amazing smash bros brawl music was everything
This was very fun to watch live!
I have never cheered so loudly watching a double Megahorn landing
i love the end of the month because it means i get to see sweaty Jan again
Flygon finale was insane. I had a feeling the nuzlockers would squeak out a win given the rules of the game, but hopefully this inspires a new speedrunning category (or brings more life into one that already exists) that incorporates nuzlocke rules, as this video shows how much potential something like that has.
Love the vid format and so fun to watch all the way to the end!
That was a thrill to watch. Great job to everyone involved
Its awesome to see how much funnier and higher-quality your intros have become
What an incredible run. So many intense moments in here.
This was super exciting to watch, i hope you do this event again!
That was so tense. This was awesome
Loved the video, it wouldve been nice as someone who doesnt know all of the people to add the names to the overlay in some way to make it easier to follow
Squerk really coming through with that big brain escape rope strat
It was so lucky that he didn’t sacked Cloyster vs. Drake, and it ended up saving him
I watched this live and it was one of the best live experiences I've ever watched. I was rooting for the nuzlockers and from the start, they seemed to be the massive underdogs....
and then this happened. It was amazing.
Damn, that Flygon champion fight was edge-of-my-seat levels of intense. I popped off right with him when each Megahorn hit.
This was so cinematic omg put it on as background noise but ended up staying up to watch it all the way through
This was a really awesome video PK! I really enjoyed it, great idea!
Need more of these, this was fire
More videos like this one please. This was amazing.
That format was one of the most thrilling Pokemon content I have seen in such a long time!! '°' Thanks to all of you for this amazing challange!!
I think the thing to remember about the speed run vs nuzlocke path optimization, is both are usually training specifically to dodge wasted battles, for speed runners because time, for nuzlockers because less chances for rng to punish... now the nuzkocker is "less" refined in dodging battles but they are still practiced at it, so the huge edge you were giving them isn't as big an edge, nevermind how little it actually makes in difference.
The double megahorn play was so hype.
So great to see everyone's games!
That was incredible! ❤❤❤❤ Great job to all involved. Go Nuzlockers!
