  • It's back to basics having not been able to fly since January due to my local club and airfield being closed. Flying at a new airfield was nice but unfamiliar! Work on coordination, circuits and some thermalling. One step forward, 2 steps back! Onward and upwards ;)

25:36 At this point I'd already noticed a certain tendency for letting the glider do its own thing. Your nose swings left to right and your yaw string as well. Your FI taking over on final turn didn't surprise me that much after. One of my FI's told me (as yours basically did as well) that that last turn needs to be the nicest you've ever flown which means keeping the string straight, keep your bank angle and your speed. I think the statistics say that if you stall/spin in the final turn, you've got a 20% chance of surviving.
Next time you fly do some coordinated rolling practise at 55 (best glide, also landing speed without wind) and 65-ish. The faster you go the lesser the effect of adverse yaw so start with speed 65. At 55 you'll likely not be able to go full aileron because you're limited by the rudder. Also those were some of the harshest winch launches ever, first one I thought it was a rope break ^^

I hadn’t flown for 6 months, I felt like it was the first time again. All your observations are correct. I just need to be more consistent and keep going :)
