Motocross Action Magazine tests the 2021 Kawasaki KX450 out at Glen Helen Raceway. For the 2021 model year Kawasaki has mad some subtle changes to the motorcycle including a larger diameter clutch, new handlebars, and a new coating on the piston. Will these refinements be enough to win in the 2021 450 motocross shootout? Only time will tell and we have a lot more testing to do before we get there. I bought one 2021 kawi last night , sick Machine ❤️❤️
My son races the 2020 KX 250. The bike is very good, with great handling. At the 30 hour mark, we broke a valve spring... a piece of it snapped in the cam chain causing 1 chain plate to bent. This in return ate in the plastic chain slides. The scraped off plastic collected in the oil pump resulting in oil blockage to the big end... engine was broken. This was a big bummer and not what I expect from a premium Japanese manufacturer. I have raced several KX 125’s and 250’s myself back in the day, I am a Kawasaki guy. But I hope the durability of the 21’s will be better, especially on the high rpm 250’s. I really like MXA’s tests, been reading since the early 90’s. My suggestion is to do a review test after 1 season.
I got the 2020, if i wouldve waited 2 weeks for 1 more pay cheque i couldve bought the 2021 😪 but whatever im happy with my 2020, worked my ass off all winter to buy my kx450 cash an full

I ride the 450 kx 2020 stock as I like my bike to be stock. Only have xtrig triple clamp with a scar racing bar. The only issue I had so far is the throttle system. It's the third time the thing is stuck I mean doesn't come back so I'm changing the whole system this week with way better quality. Otherwise the bike handles like a dream. And it's not known so much but this bike come with a very special fork, it's not the standard showa like on the Honda the fork cost actually more than half of the bike if you want to buy it alone. so its a 19' with a slightly diff clutch internals but with same feel, new bars your going to change anyways and a new piston coating. sounds like 19 is way to go for sure put a Hinson in it and still have 2k left over

Owned a 19 450 Kawi... lasted less than 50hr before the engine blew... yes i maintained it, always running with new oil. Problem was never how it felt on the track, bike is just not durable.

The KX 450s are fuel injected four strokes, I think you know that right?

Kawi has come a long way. And the reason Kawasaki didn't upgrade their 2020 450 lineup is cause they spent most of their budget on the 2020 kx 250f.

as motor race de hoje nao soam mais como um trovão como as motos de anos anteriores, especialmente a honda crf 250r que tinha um roncom maravilhoso quando ainda era com cabeçote UNICAM... as crf 250r 2008 ate 2014 soam muito bom eram como um trovão.
well besides the clutch it didn't really improve ... not as much as the new honda for sure, but I would love to see where they will go with this.

Yeah interesting but suppose piston coating means longer between rebuild would like to know feel on clutch ? Arm pump ?
The clutch felt good, but this was only day one of testing so we'll see how durability is after we throw all of our testers on it, race it, ride it and throw it through the wringer

itsabig idk about less power but different power band. You can hear the difference in the sound. Factory team even said they change the mapping to what the rider likes

I had a 19 450 Kawi and it didn’t last more than 50hrs before the engine blew. I do not recommend Kawasaki if what you are looking for is durability... still think its the best riding bike tho.

Today riding my 450 kx 2020 I was thinking. All this video from us magazine they say the fork is too soft. I find it way to stiff I mean even landing properly is very harsh feeling. Or we don't have the same setting for Europe or there is a huge difference at a pro speed. I don't know I had my bike mid may I am taking the 2021 and as soon as I have it'll be straight to the suspension shop. Even the shock spring is so stiff I can't fix the rebound when you're a bit short you just rebound 3 meters after the jump...

@@philip5798 That was another KX450 in the background, didn't have any 250s for us yesterday. Not sure on a date, but as soon as we test it, we will have the video review up on our channel. We got done at the track yesterday at 4:30 and the video was live this morning at 8:00 so we're making sure to produce content as soon as we're done riding each new bike

Does the 2021 overheats in deep sand like the 2020?
id think anything that isn’t liquid cooled will over heat riding in sand or mud , its very hard on the motor .

On deep sand there are riding tecniques that avoid overheating.
2020 Kawa was the only one suffering overheating.
Aniway, 2021 and 2022 have not this problem anymore 🤙🏻

Keep that two stroke. So impossible to find now.
2 strokes are more fun to ride. If MX had spent the last 15+ years developing bikes around the 2 strokes we'd have much better bikes to enjoy. Hang on to that 2 stroke. They're getting harder to find in good condition.

450s are indeed way faster around the track, but my smile is way bigger riding 500s.

I try these boring, uninspired cookie cutter 4-strokes every few years and Im allways consistently faster on my '97 KX by a not insignifigant amount. Ive been on it (and my '96 CR500) for 14 years.
Granted, bikes have come a long way, especially with the stock suspension, but a good rider, reworked suspension and proper setup will embarass these $12k ticking time bombs.

I just picked up a 2015 crf250 and I absolutely hate the air fork. I'm going to do the conversion back to spring. But I'm 6'3 and 230 lbs.

I like trail riding because I don’t want to go over the same piece of ground every 2 minutes. But all my bikes are race bikes. I like them more.
Kawasaki has one of the weakest engines for 2021. Don't believe me? Look at the dyno results on youtube.
