    Thank you for step by step. It was easy to stop and start while you made holes in the spine and sewed them in. I made template for spine, the holes and sewed in first signatures at the same time as watching. Now get this. I rearranged the signature a few times before sewing it in. The first time all was right side up but when I finished sewing it in...tied knot...well discovered the signature was upside down..😂😂😂 took it apart and redid it. I may have it in too tight and will do next one wee bit looser. I don't dare take it apart or page holes will rip. Anyway thank you. 4 more signatures but this old lady is waiting til tomorrow lol😊

      Next time I will make the template for holes same length of signature and not the spine itself because the signatures are shorter than cover...on purpose 😂lol

    To do all your signatures you're actually using the middle holes for all your little booklets correct I can't explain it very good but I hope you can understand that

    • @stephaniemaydeck709
      @stephaniemaydeck709  Před 3 lety +2

      I think I understand what you are asking and the answer is yes. I'm only using the middle holes on the paper pattern to put the holes in each signature The only time you use all three sets of holes on the paper pattern is when you are punching holes in the spine of your book. I hope this helps. If not, please contact me with any questions you have. Good luck and thank you so much for watching and commenting. ❤️

    Very informative. I’m creating my very first journal as a gift for my nephew. I’m going to be making a fabric cover. I was wondering, is it OK to sew the signatures into the journal and then put the fabric cover on? This would hide the threads. Has anyone ever done that?

      Thank you for watching and commenting! I'm so glad my video was helpful 💜 Great question - I'm not sure I've ever seen it done that way but I think it would work? I sometimes use a coordinating fabric on the spine to cover the stitches. Let me know how it turns out! 😊

    • @BarbaraEyre
      @BarbaraEyre Před 3 lety

      I'm currently following Stephanie's videos on how to make this kind of journal as I have a book I no longer want as itself so this is a good way to keep it from the landfill. I have seen in other videos where they added their signatures to a stiff cardboard which was then glued to the spine. No strings on the outside of the journal and the strings are super secured between the hard spine and the stiff cardboard. This is the way I am going to do it. I put the fabric on the book last night. Now for the hard process of creating a signature (since I don't have a lot of supplies to work from) and my spine is just above 1/2 inch hehehehe

    Hi. Thank you for the great video! Question, what do you use for the outside of the signature? Just scrapbook paper or something heavier? I worry that scrapbook book paper isn't heavy enough.

    • @stephaniemaydeck709
      @stephaniemaydeck709  Před 2 lety

      Each signature is made of various papers and, because I sew them into the spine of the book, they are protected by the book cover. Does that answer your question? I hope so but if not please let me know.

    OK!! NEW to this.. signatures are "the pages" for your journal, correct? where do you start, or how do you start DOING THE PAGES? Watching video, you can use just about anything for "page".. I was wondering what you did with the pages from the book. Can you also leave pages IN AND JUST GLUE THINGS ONTO THEM?

    • @stephaniemaydeck709
      @stephaniemaydeck709  Před 4 lety

      Hi Laura! Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Yes, signatures are just pieces of paper - any paper - folded in half and nested together. I tend to use 8 - 10 pages per signature. And you can absolutely glue things on! There are CZcams videos and Facebook groups all about collage and glue books! I hope this helps. If not please let me know. ❤️

    How many pages are in each signature?

    • @stephaniemaydeck709
      @stephaniemaydeck709  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Shirley thanks for watching and commenting. The number of pages in a signatures can vary. I like to use between 8 - 10 full pages, folded in half. That way each signature is approximately 32 - 40 pages, counting back and front, total. And I like to use either 3 or 5 signatures per journal. However, I've seen journals that are 6 or less full pages folded in half and 8 or more signatures in the journal. Depends on preference and the look you're going for. But, as a general rule of thumb if you are just starting out, try 8 - 10 pages per signature and 3 - 5 signatures per journal. I hope this helps 😊
