Over the Hedge is a 2006 American animated heist comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation. Features the voices of Bruce Willis, Garry Shandling, Steve Carell, William Shatner, Wanda Sykes and Nick Nolte. Set in Indiana, the film centers on a raccoon named RJ, who is forced to deliver food to a bear named Vincent after accidentally destroying his stockpile of food, whereupon he manipulates a family of woodland animals who have recently awakened from hibernation into helping him steal food in order to speed up the process.

Fun Fact: Over the Hedge has been referenced in science. An aurora-like natural phenomenon was named STEVE in reference to the scene where the animals discover the hedge. STEVE is an acronym for Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement and radiates a purple and green light. So, without Over the Hedge, we wouldn't have an aurora named Steve. Thanks, Dreamworks!
oh my god this is real and true wtf
This needs to be pinned
This comment looks awfully familiar...🤔
(I originally wrote this comment on Schaffrillas’s review)
I mean, they might be referencing the og comic
the voice actor of the squirrel who named the hedge that is also named Steve
You joked about it being through the hedge instead of over it, but at the climax of the movie, the bear goes OVER the Hedge. Refund denied.
its at the climax too, which is more important than the beginning of the movie.
It ain't over till it's over the hedge!
Oh, yeah. It’s all coming together
The squirrel suddenly becoming focused and calm from hyperactive is just the embodiment of ADHD stimulus, lmao
My brother becomes waaaaay more chill after he has caffeine.
I think that’s how my adhd meds work lmfao
I become way more hyper and energized, but at the same time I’m able to focus and get work done!
@@Arcsin27ya those meds work well but I wasn't a fan of pills. Ew
Fun fact: the image of the turtle character being surprised isn’t even from this movie. It’s from the video game adaptation.
I WAS WONDERING
It's from the movie if you run it on low graphics
The OTH video game was a banger as well 🔥
That's what I figured I knew it look familiar I played the game who else
no way Over the Hedge GameCube/Playstation 2 mentioned
This movie unironically handles three antagonists better than pretty much any superhero movie and I find that hilarious
I hate how right this is
Don’t forget puss in boots 2
So, DC (and maybe Marvel if they get their act together) should study This Movie for how to handle multiple villains without making it tacky? Wild
😭😭😭😭
Eh, I think it's more like 2½ antagonists at best. The vermin guy was just the karen's lackey.
Everyone knows that the best thing about this movie is Hammy drinking the Energy drink and going quicksilver mode before Quicksilver did it.
That scene was peak when I was a kid. Now as an adult, it's still peak.
There was one later movie with a similar scene that claim they were more inspired by this movie that Quicksilver’s scene
@@apupthatdraws1001 That was Sonic the Hedgehog 2020 where he was dodging the missiles.
@@A_guy_named_Kaleb yeah that’s totally it
I prefer Over the Hedge over the X-Men movies.
Watching three grown men not figure out that the hedge was put up while the animals were hibernating was hilarious
“The jokes in this movie are so old!”
*Bro what did y’all expect? The movie is literally from 2006!* 💀💀

@@Alpharius_OmegonXX also still in highschool, pretty sure some people graduate early in like online or early college/high schools
It's rather amazing how Over The Hedge uses casual threat of murder as both comedy and actual stake at the current problem.
Also a pretty straightforward threat for a kids movie.
Disney would never
bro just copy and pasted a comment from schaffrillas productions' video lmao
This movie shows Karen as one of the main villain before Karen's were a thing it's officially subversive masterpiece.
I mean, Dwayne did call her "sister" and "Nancy", which fits way better....
Somome call James Phyrillas
She's the HOA president, she's definitely the villain
Too bad there aren't any managers she can confront. 😂
@@osmanyousif7849 There is a bunch of negative Nancys nowadays.
Fun fact: popular singer Avril Lavigne plays the teenage possum
NO
Wait what?
Iconic queen
She fr did play her
Ozzy Osbourne plays the dad possum lol
1:15 fun fact: this bear is in another movie, but it's not open season. It's the same model(albeit a slightly different color) as the bear in the court case scene in the Bee Movie
So basically they just reused the model a year later
@SlushysSecret yea, but a lot of people agree that it's the same bear. Having slightly different color fur would make sense because his fur was mostly burned off in the end of this one
This movie is my childhood, I've seen it more than I can count. 10/10 movie.
Fun Fact: that Bee that Hammy shakes stings him off screen. It's referenced in Bee Movie by Barry _"everybody knows that if you sting someone you die, you don't waste it on a squirrel."_
16:06 Eat your heart out, Megamind 2! This is how you properly deliver a THX joke.
That moon launch joke in Megamind 2 with the password being 'THX' with the numbers '8675309' made me audibly groan
@CellmateX
that whole "movie" made me audibly groan
@@whodis4531 the trailer made me groan and not watch it
I think this is the only movie to use the logo INSIDE the movie
Megamind 2? That's not a real movie. Sounds like you made it up!
The vending machine menu screen is iconic and seared into my brain
YES
THIS!
OMG SAAAAAAAAME I remember watching the Bee Movie trailer from that Menu screen and watching the looping animation of RJ trying to get the chips with the dinosaur toy and the looping music it was peak fr
yee
THATS HOW I SAW THE FLUSHED AWAY TRAILER AHAHAHAH
Recommend movies:
1. Flushed Away
2. Surfs Up
I feel like they watched those movies already
BRO that cat is NOT european hes ARABIC because he is a PERSIAN breed cat, he's voiced by Omar Djalili, also known as the voice of Yusuf Amir in GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony
He low key sounds French though lol can't blame them
Bud, there's still a difference between Arabs and Persians.
I think his first name is Omid. Not Omar. He was also the Warden Gad Hassan in the 1999 Mummy film with Brendan Fraser and Arnold Vosloo. He got his brain eaten by a scarab and killed himself by running head first into a wall, full force.
🤓🤓🤓🤓
Note that Persian and Arabic are DIFFERENT.
Saying this movie is mid has got to be a crime
It broke my heart when they said it was mid , it is literally my favourite childhood movie
Actually peak fiction
This movie is mid
I'm fine with it being called mid 'cause it probably is, but that won't stop me from loving all the precious memories I have of it.
@@robertlupa8273 I know, but people having a different opinion upsets me
I just now realized this movie is an allegory for class warfare what the actual fuck were they cooking with this one.
I don't think so...
I think it's supposed to be environmental.
I thought it's about found family. 🤷🏻♂️
@@SupHapCakLittle bit of both
It legit isn’t. Class isn’t involved in this at all. It’s about loss of animal habitats, human selfishness, and found family.
@@DoomzdehIt kind of is. Setting of Upper Middle Class Suburbia with jokes about consumerism/capitalism especially in the music. Found Family and the like are there as well but it is an element.
I’ll be honest that sassy skunk was the best character for me.
Not gonna lie...as a kid....she was kinda bad
Furry pfp oh how predictable you are @@zippyzoom8786
The animal control officer In over the hedge reminds me of Kronk - Al from toy story 2..
@@zippyzoom8786 every time I see a character like that in a movie or series I used to watch as a kid, I understand my taste in women nowadays a little bit more.
I might not find her hot but I can look at her and go "yeah there's definitely some shmexy fanart of her out there".
This movie had so many recognizable celebrities. Bruce Willis, Garry Shandling, Steve Carrell, Wanda Sykes, Allison Janney, Nick Nolte, William Shatner, Thomas Haden Church, and that’s just to name a few. This movie has so many comedy legends, and unfortunately the movie is not really that popular. My favorite part personally were the songs, even though “Heist” and “Rocking the Suburbs” did sound like theme songs for family sitcoms.
I think the reason its not that popular is because despite all the comedy legends, it's not that funny. It lands a good joke every once in a while but for the most part the jokes land flat. Coupled with the subpar story, its a film that doesn't really captivate most people.
I love how everything is solved by Hammy drinking the energy drink and going quicksilver mode. Cause he was a true gamer
Fun fact- The squirrel's "Quicksilver" moment is what inspired the Quicksilver Moment in the Sonic movie
WAIUT HGUH??? IS THIS ACTUALLY TRUE??
@@SpectacleSpark Yeah, the director of the Sonic Movie was asked in an interview if he based the scene on Quicksilver's but as a responde, he said he actually took it from Over the Hedge.
@@El_Omar2203 TJATS FUCKING HIALRIOUS. Over the hedge is both me and my dads favorite movie tbh due to hammy the squirrel lol, so this is a shocker for me hearing about this
The tv saying “I am a dirtbag” was Phil because after that the porcupine dad then says “I don’t think that guy is a real doctor”
As a fat kid growing up the first time and every time following of watching this movie I also wondered why the Pringle’s can made a pop noise
I had a Spanish teacher that made us watch movies only in Spanish like we actually understood what they were saying so I never knew what this movie was really about
My Spanish teacher let the class vote on "English audio Spanish subtitles" or "Spanish audio English subtitles"
Obviously if we're supposed to be exposed to the language, it should have been the Spanish audio because then they can just ignore the subtitles -- nobody would try to read them. Immersion in the target language means HEARING the audio.
Obviously they all chose to watch the movie in English.
I of course got chastised for pointing out nobody would learn anything if they were allowed to ignore the subtitles and just listen.
My teacher did this with Shrek 2, and when one kid said she hadn’t seen it before everyone else booed at her
@@skipperringo teacher: "so do you want Shrek 2 in English audio with Spanish sub or Spanish audio with English sub?"
girl: "I've never watched Shrek 2"
..........

@@SupHapCakAt least for me I never learned anything either way from watching movies in Spanish, I'm just incapable of understanding spoken Spanish for some reason.
I love the fact that the Slow mo scene in the first Sonic movie was inspired by Hammy scene and not the Quickslilver scene
Now that leaves Mr Peabody & Sherman to watch, which I feel like they are either gonna surprisingly love or absolutely hate with no inbetween
OMG YES PLEASE!
I’d like to see that.
That movie's way better than it has any right to be.
Theres like a dozen ways this movie was ahead of its time.
Eden is Hammy, Jack is the exterminator and Kor is the bear
I just figured out that RJ's name is an acronym for Racoon Jesus
I love how this movie could just be about a drug addict who stole from his dealer and is forced to give him the money back by the end of the week by enlisting the help of some people he also tricked into becoming drug addicts
This movie is a certified hood classic.
Fax
That slow motion scene works so much better in CG than live action. It annoys me how live action keeps doing it while CG never does. They don't understand where this type of set piece belongs in.
8:02 I cut my straws in half when I throw them away, so twice as many turtles can be impacted by one straw.
15:17 novellite editor spoted
The beginning scene ranting about vending machine prices, is so true.
I spent $4 on a water at my school yesterday 💀
My favorite memory of this movie is definitely the soundtrack, my favorite songs from it being "Heist" and "Rockin' the Suburbs" which are saved in my music to this day. Ben Folds just has that kind of voice that was simultaneously chill and could get me pumped up.
The Verminator is still one of my favorite animated villains... just so over the top in the right way and just threatening enough for the stakes.
There are a lot of animated movies that could be accused of turning people into furries. This is most definitely not one of them.
You sure, 8 year old me when i saw this movie think that stella(the skunk) is attractive😂😂😂
@@regayudafitra6236 Screw her, as a kid I thought the raccoon was hot lmfao I don't know what I was on.
You cant say that with Stella and the turtle ass on full display come on
The possums are kinda cute tho
I'm weak for eye-covering bangs, and that skunk…
14:00 I watched this movie when I was like 5 and when he said every state except Texas, I felt so special cuz I thought I could go buy that shit 😭
This movie just screams the early 2000s in the best possible way through its soundtrack, portrayal of a suburban lifestyle, and the zany animation that fit so well for that time
When I was younger I was oddly obsessed wit over the hedge. I made ocs and did fanfics.

If I had a nickel for every time a DreamWorks movie featured a villain which fit an Internet stereotype before that stereotype was being talked about, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice, right?
Enough with the two nickels shit, that's yet another dead horse that needs to stop being beaten? In every single STM video, there's always a goddamn decomposed dead horse being beaten. Why can't everyone just move on already?

Back in Mexico, we watched the parody, "Over the Border" it was amazing.
I love them trying to gaslight each other into thinking RJ’s hot.
I have a core memory of early in the semester 10 of my classmates were scrambling to finish coursework in the uni's music studios and some guy turned on a song from the control room. I instantly stopped what I was doing, went over to the studio and said - "Is this from Over the Hedge" and they all nodded and we jammed out laughing
I can't believe the bear from the Bee Movie made his start in this movie.
