  • Echo & The Bunnymen video clips & an interview with Ian McCulloch and Pete de Freitas. This was found on an old video and the picture quality isn't great. However, it's a rare clip as it's from a programme that aired at about 2.00am, so I thought it was still worth putting on here. Not sure of the year it was aired, probably 1987-88.

      I talked to him once on the wee Scottish tour .It was the eighties and I was a kid so thought everything was about money. He said it was about experiences seeing sunset's and stuff...I'm 57 and it's been the best advice ever ..Also we had nowhere to stay . He shared his bed and the only thing he asked me to take off was my wet socks ..A true gent ❤️

    Thanks for your message sorry for the late response, I don't use youtube often... I was 9 months so I didn't know him at all, but it's nice to have opinions of him from outside the family, learn how other people viewed him (without the biased family love in the way!)

      The first four Bunnymen albums are unimaginable without Pete de Freitas' masterly and endlessly creative drumming. I'm from Liverpool and was an Eric's regular and saw the Bunnies with just their drum machine. Pete was a Godsend.

    I met him in the small pub next to the Hammersmith Palais back in about 1983 just before a gig. He was leaning up against the bar and just had to say hello to him. He was the reason I loved the Bunnymen, totally in ore (?) of him. After shaking his hand I felt I had met my God. He was very polite and happy to talk to fans
    Rest in Peace Pete, always remembered

    for the longest time, my experience of echo, was listening to the records. Seeing all the live performances was mind blowing. The performances are unreal visually. Seeing Pete play as he did, the entire group. All the live with or without visual are amazing.

    In the early 80's i had the pleasure of meeting Pete outside the odeon in birmingham..He wanted to know where Boots was (i dont know why?)...I said i had to go there as well? So we both went across to boots and spent half hour talking about the band? An absolute great guy..Got a free ticket to that nights gig as well as meeting the band and getting my "Never stop" single signed....R.I.P Pete...

    Thanks mate. Pete was the Steve McQueen of the percusion world: oozed class, power, was broody - but nothing false about him. 100% the right man for the job. Compare that with today`s "indie" drummers: doing that silly huge air inhale before they strike the drums. All show and false emotion. And nothing like the heights which Pete, as a drummer, existed on.
    Took the superbike, with care, to the Japanese mountains today. "Porcupine" country. Pete was up there somewhere, in the cumulus.

    Lucie, saw your dad and the other Bunnymen at the Bismarck Theatre in Chicago, '84. He was placed downstage (up front) alongside the other three. All four lined up front. Tremendous! He could make those drummers sound like an army invading the heart and mind.

      +Jeffrey Hoge I really liked the fact that they would place Pete up front with the rest..not that if he was palced behind them means something negative..Pete was a great asset to the band an original ..loved his style of drumming. I don';t recall any other band that place the drummer up front with the rest of the members...BUNNYMEN RULE!

    @ 1:15 Ian sounds like he's being cocky, but it's so true! He's a million times more clever than those loser critics who don't actually produce or create anything, but just smugly pass judgment on those who do. Regardless of what the critics might say, I recognize genius when I see it.

    @bunnEgirl Strange how Ian singing is extremely clear but you can barely understand him when he speaks. Meanwhile Pete is speaking the Queen's English, very precise clear accent. Either that ... or Ian is just drunk.

    • @ninetyminutestd
      @ninetyminutestd Před 6 lety +2

      Pete was middle class southerner, Mac is working class scouse--their accents were very different. Though, Mac being drunk isn't unlikely. It's been said he was drinking a lot on that last tour.

      The drummer wasn't a Scouser that's why and it was a Liverpool band. Thank god he didn't speak the Queens English they'd have been disowned in this city!

    @jabberwocky1969 Lol I really think Ian's drunk in this particular interview. He sounds all deranged and slurred and I can't understand a word he says. In other interviews I can perfectly understand him, but if you try really hard and listen carefully you can sort of get what he's saying in this one.
