Maybe the beach stays rendered because it's a permanent object, just like the buildings? Like you can't terraform on there or anything so the game doesn't have to think about what state it's in. I don't know anything about technology though just my guess

It's also probably to spawn fishes and not have them clip through the ground
Mainly because it's a spawn location. unloading it would cause fish to stop spawning. Same with the buildings, they can house entities, and therefore cant be despawned

honestly imo the rolling log effect has become a core part of the series at this point
having a new game that completely lacks it (which you'd probably need to do for 360 camera movement) just wouldn't feel right

@@Emanuele_Polisena They obviously would fully render objects if they were using a 360 camera. There's no point in fleshing out things that players aren't supposed to see.

tbh I'd be into this mod, simply because it'd make it easier to spot those flying ballloons instead of having to walk backwards and forwards hoping you'll get a glimpse of which way it is. Might make planting orchards easier too.
Personally I just tilt the camera up till it faces right up to the sky
if you look up a “balloon farming” video it’s a really easy way to get every balloon!!
The direction balloons go is based on the time of day.
you can also check which way the wind is going based on the villagers chimneys! the balloons will blow the same direction

I love how nintendo made those items and put the angle perfect so it actually looks like the trees have a back
What happened to the flowers is I didn’t realize there was an invisible wall behind the villagers houses so I tried putting flowers there in NHSE but they ended up spawning on top of the house. I was too damn lazy to fix it 💖 That’s just what happens when you place stuff too close to buildings in NHSE.

In the beginning, I thought it was terrifying but after you hopped to that dream it started to look really cool! It would actually be next level if Nintendo did this with a new animal crossing (AND fixed the lagging problem that comes with decorating the island to the hilt).
It would be huge, I'd love to see it!
Definitely not on the current switch, but if they make a Switch Pro it'd be very possible. However, I doubt they would do that until the next game in the franchise (which may not come out until 2027....)
as a person learning game deving, this is really interesting. For so long I was wondering why you couldn't do a 360 degree or even just a few turns, but only up and down, now it makes sense.
They never rendered/created a back to any object (houses, rocks, trees etc) and for the longest time I wondered what the skybox was (the sky itself) was.
So the rest is in a void (which makes sense) but the sky itself is like a pop-out gif image making it look 3D modeled (Some maps in indie games do have the whole skybox where you can travel and look out into space and you can view the moon and sun etc) but in this case it seems to be just a 3D gif backdrop that just moves and I'm guessing it's also randomized (weather wise) so one night you'll have cloudy, clear, overcast, etc) it is a bit more timely to do that, but it is possible of course. Unknown worlds did the same with the ending of their game showing off Al-Ans homeworld with a 3D backdrop it was 2-D in reality, but it looked 3D. Which makes it easier and good for illusions.
but obviously flowers, lakes, rivers, the water etc are all optical (meaning you can view in all angles) while the others are only speculators where you can only view in one view point.
hmmmmm this is quite fascinating and really shows you what goes on behind the scenes.

its not randomized. there are several weather seeds that your island can have that will determine what weather it is on any given day, as well as things like rainbows, star showers etc
also the flowers arent optical. he even points out in the video that theyre messed up from one side

this should be an in-game feature that you could turn on and off. Obviously stuff would look more _normal_
So for the flowers, my theory is that: y'know when you change the camera normally to see behind things? Those floating flowers are the ones at the front in the line in a group so I'm thinking it's for rendering purposes when the camera changes. That, or it's a weird glitch cause you have so many buildings right next to each other lolz.

the reason things look weird from behind is because they save rendering time by doing that!
Yeah, normally the only way to see those unfinished sides of models is to mod the game, which Nintendo definetly discourages. So why not unload those unnecessary things to keep a stable frame rate?

I know what happened with the flowers! They were placed on top of the building in NHSE and are on layer 2. We should do a mod collab sometime!

Since it was raining, I'm wondering if it's the flowers that are to spawn?
(Saying that however I didn't really see any other flowers floating throughout the video but just a thought)
its actually because the flowers were too close to the building and the mod make that glitch happen
2:01 my theory is that they put them up there and then when the flowers spread and grow to other places it’s easier for the game to just reload those flowers down to their spot

plus if it can't render a tiny part of a tiny island with still items with limited animations and barely any AI (if any at all), then I guess the switch shouldn't be able to handle BotW, Odyssey, Splatoon 2, 3D World, etc.
I understand you get to choose what goes where and could potentially easily break this by putting a bunch of memory-intensive items together but I honestly don't think there is anything that would take enough memory to cause issues, especially because the game only loads in the visible area around you and unloads the rest of the island (except buildings which shouldn't take any extra memory).
But hey I'm not a game developer I could be totally wrong in my basic assumptions here.
@@awesomness6775 Yeah, the difference between animal crossing and other games is the freedom that the player has on the island. If you go on some dream island of other players, the game runs at 20 fps. So imagine that + a free camera + doing a complete version of some models ( like the trees on the video ) and the game could even go worse.

Yeah, half of this stuff that looks “broken” is intentional game design on Nintendo’s part to help optimise. Why have fully 3D trees if you aren’t supposed to see half of them anyways? Why keep the whole island loaded the whole time when you can just unload far off parts like minecraft?

I think in the Programm code the Beach is Locked as a not Removable Object. Remember you can dig up your entire Island but can't get rid of the Beach

This looks like a cool mod, showing how little is really loaded in an Animal Crossing game, and why the camera's so restricted outdoors in the first place. I've had dreams where I could rotate the camera around outdoors and the camera here rotates at...I think the same speed, just not tilting under the water to see fully-modelled fish (I know they're shadows until caught but that's how my dream's Animal Crossing worked).
It would be great if the next Animal Crossing game somehow let players rotate the camera outdoors, then change how it loads parts of the environment into memory, so the cutoff is never seen.

The flowers are on top of the house because if you unnaturally move the buildings using a save editor/website, the building's hitbox sorta clips things that are too close, so the flowers just end up on top of the building. I did this alot in AC NewLeaf...
I will never look at trees the same now that I know their secret
A 360 AC is what i was hoping when they announced NH, the atmosphere that this will bring to the table will be a game changer, they will be able to recreate the feeling that the first AC offered with the new options in customization the new games introduced.

I don't know if its related, but you can terraform the island, but not the beach, the beach is permanently stable. That may be why the beach remains rendered.
You should watch footage of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds with a 360° camera mod for an extreme example of the leaning that those bamboo trees are doing.
Also you can absolutely do that camera app trick at the end in the game normally - I like to try finding my way around and seeing how far from my starting position I can get :D

@@bloomtime888 I understand he used a save editor but he also went to the dream of address of a game with a save edited file. That's really surprising. I remember people getting banned in less than 60 seconds after uploading an island to dream world that was save edited. One youtuber even talked about the automated system they have which scans save files for inconsistencies or edits.

I think they're stored above the map because some of the flowers have been run over. So when you run over a flower and it reverts to that 'bud' like state, instead of entirely getting rid of the previous 'full' model the developers just store it out of sight. This model replacement thing is a common thing to find in games.
As for why some things get rendered and some dont, for the houses I imagine it has something to do with the fact you can enter into those buildings, and for the beach i'd guess it's because it's basically the 'border' of your island.

One thing I would like in the base game is the ability to do a slight tilt in either direction. Not full 360, just like how if you take the mailbox, place it down, and use it. Like in the split second before the screen comes up, if you could get that kind of angle when playing.
I agree, a little bit of liberty with the camera would be good!
@@Dagnel it would just be a gift to be able to see slightly behind trees without having to have them near the edge of the screen. Because I’ve just seen a lot of images of islands that have great views if you look at them head on, but at an angle they’d likely not look great, and having that ability would help people design in different ways.

That was great, I love seeing these "behind the scenes" type things with game to see what developers are doing with things just out of normal view to improve performance/gameplay/etc. I would love to see a no clip mod showcase next like you mentioned. I've heard if you clip through the gate at the airport, Wilbur is actually behind the wall and can be talked to.

I think, in a full 360° compatible new edition of ac trees will look good with 5 leaf-spheres, one at thje top and 4 around it´s base.
They may also have 4 instead of 3 fruits (or money-bags as money-tree), each pointing into another diagonal direction of the grid.
If shaked down, they´ll land on the 4 grid-cells, wich are the diagonal naighbors of the tree-trunk.
The buildings: “So you think I’m skinny😏”
They should animate the backs of trees and bushes because you can kinda see them when you open your mailbox or talk to villagers at a certain angle. Also when bushes are fully grown, the trunks disappear.
I hope the next animal crossing will do this
