- The last time Turkey were labeled "dark horses" at a UEFA European Championship, their dreams of going deep into the competition quickly became a nightmare as they crashed out winless at the bottom of their group.
But Turkey are back for redemption at Euro 2024. Having stormed through qualifying on the back of their strongest team in years and claimed 3 points in their opening group game against Georgia, they’ll fancy their chances of turning that old “dark horse” label into a reality.

Unfortunately Turkey is the most inconsistent team I have ever seen. They have the potential to win against Portugal today, but also lose high against them. The defense and middlefield positioning after losing the ball is terrible.

Let's be more realistic. Injuries hampered us in defence and I think with these central defenders, the maximum goal that we can reach is to qualify the knockout phase. But still watching Turkey will be a fun for everyone.

The only problem I seen in the match with Georgia, is they gave the attackers too much space, and they kept wasting time during attack by passing back and not moving forward. Inşallah Turkiye wins this next match, I'm calling it a 2/3 win for Turkiye
There is still a plenty for Türkiye to learn, ever match is an important experiance, we will have fun, but we are not haline high hopes.
As much as I wish we would, I am almost certain that we won't. Turkey has always disappointed us since World Cup semi finals against brazil. Went downhill from there on. But these new young talents who have not even started with their carreer yet, might bring the needed flame back to our national team, and who knows. This team is much better then the one we had over the past decade for sure.

It is interesting to see how one man (Vincenzo Montella) can change the course of a team. As a Turk, I really want to win this year. Especially in these hard times, a win would be a stick to hold before drowning.
This is historically accurate too. Turks always need a good leader to perform well. In war, in politics, in life as well as in football. Closest example would be the rise of CHP after replacing Kılıçdaroğlu with Özel.

I'm not sold on Turkey at all tbh. I think they're a good team but they are not top 4 material so far from what I've seen. I would say a true dark horse in my eyes are Netherlands, Belgium and Croatia. Netherlands because noone thinks they're going to get top 4 (but i think they have a very solid chance to do so), Belgium in a similar vain (especially since they lost to Slovakia) and Croatia too (since they tied Albania). Thing is Croatia and Belgium still played very good football in their games it's just unlucky for them end of the day.

@@Dadashov007 They're dark horses I think because the expectation is not that any of them will make it into the top 4, but I believe all 3 of them have very strong potential to. Croatia unfortunately probably not since they're at 1 point and Belgium can easily lose to Romania tomorrow but I have faith. These teams have been playing well is my point and they're being underestimated is my point.

Right... OK, so I know it was a 3-1 win in the first game. The game itself was very entertaining and satisfying to watch, especially compared to other "big name" teams' games, which are generally dull and low energy (yes, I'm talking about you, "England the energy vampire"). However, you need to keep in mind the issues in Turkey's defence; that game could have easily been 3-3 or even a loss. I'm not saying Turkey won the game by luck, but we should not assume the rest of the games will be like that. The Portugal game will be a good example of what Turkey can achieve under higher pressure.
Can Turkey win the Euros? Yes, why not? Will Turkey win the Euros? Probably not, I wouldn't bet money on it.

To be fair, they barely won against Georgia and Czechia, when they faced an actual non terrible country - Portugal they stood no chance. Against Austria they only won because of 2 lucky corners. They had no intent of attacking or so they parked the bus for the rest of the game and somehow won
Corners are deadballs. They were clearly something practiced in training. Calling it mere "luck" shows you don't know football. Turkey were playing energetic smooth quick passes to attack, a lot of runs but because there is no proper striker on the team there was no way to convert them into goals. I agree with the Georgia and Czechia part. Portugal wasn't a very good side. 2 of the goals Portugal scored was due to defensive mistakes. Other than that the ref was also horrible in the Portugal game. Portugal barely beat Czechia and lost to Georgia. The teams you consider "terrible".

@@pxndaaThe chance of scoring from a corner is 2-3%. If scoring goals from corners was that consistent as that game, everyone would practice it in training. What if Austria countered these 2 corners? They would have not scored at all. You can't rely on just scoring corners, without proper attacking. 2nd half especially where Austria was in full charge of the game, Turkey was playing with a 5 back and they only had 1 or 2 memorable attacks, compared to Austria who was full time attacking. How is that not luck???
