In today's video tutorial we are going to show and explain to you how to make a "sliding joint" to join two pieces of wood that can slide over each other without separating.
We are going to apply this type of dovetail joint again to build a complete drawer, from the fronts to the sliding slides, in a future video. But for now, let’s proceed step by step starting with the basics.
We are going to use a strong 12.7mm diameter Fraiser dovetail router bit with a 14-degree cutting edge angle, mounted on a vertical router positioned under a router bench. [Code 208.127.8D]
This type of joint is a mainstay of joinery because the profiles on the two pieces allows a very solid joint that is difficult to separate.

Fabulous instructional video but the background music is flipping horrible. I’d rather listen to the lovely whine of a table saw.
I like these pro tips. Just something you don't think off as new user.
Good video - this is exactly what I need. That being said, this is not woodworking music. It's pretty god-damned awful.
Great video but the music is rather annoying !!
Good video, terrible music and volume
You should run a pass with a straight router bit first to preserve your dovetail bit.
You can definitely do it on hard or difficult-to-mill materials or if you use bad bits, in which case it didn't strain at all.
Thank you :)
All is fair in closed captioning.
Great instruction. Thank you.
The sliding dovetail is very impressive looking to the uninitiated and also one of the most useless joints ever created. In 99% of cases where it's used someone just wanted to show off but there was a better joint to use.
Of course, that's what the tutorials are for, and they are guides on how to use the cutter.
This, if you're a little bit smart, you can apply it on other things and you've learned how to use the milling cutter.
how do you come up with the measurements to take mark them 10mm in from the side? does it even matter as long as its even?
We took the width of the material, the diameter of the cutter, and divided by 2 so we could keep it centered
Great instructional video. What is the cut width of the dovetail bit
Thankyou! Can find here www.fraisertools.com/en/dovetail-router-bits.html . CODE: 208.127.8D Diameter 12,7 x 12,7
For the female routing, is there a concern that the feed direction results in a climbing cut when making the second pass?
Ok video, but as the other reviewer stated the music sucks!
CZcams, please ban all channels that fill their content with garbage music, that is all. 🤦🙄
CZcams, please ban all people who don't know what to do and instead of appreciate a free lesson or going to the next one take up their miserable lives commenting on shit, that is all.
@@FraiserTV I mean, every other comment is saying the same thing. 😱
I mean, 30k visual and 10 comments on the music?
Cmon guys, a bit of understanding e sense of reality. Surely it can be done better but now to say such things is a bit childish and bullying from behind the keyboard.
Appreciate the free education and constructive comments are welcomed and appreciated as opposed to the derogatory and rude ones.
Thankyou @@charlesdjones1
Good video. Music was horrendous.
Good video. But awful music!
thankyou, also for the music!
Turn the music OFF!
THankyou very very much!
Omg that background music is obnoxious
This is Rock, This is Fraiser.
😂@@FraiserTV ok fair enough. Very good video otherwise, cheers.
Love u@@matthewmarcarian7106 - Thankyou
good tutorial, the music is terrible.
Agree with others about the music but I'll go further: I had to stop watching because I got tired of muting every time the music came on. Sorry-looks like good content. Let me know if you repost without the music.
Damn this video goes hard on mute.
I'll never understand how a woodworker can use plastic tools that could've been made in wood :/
U can use also a professional tools www.fraisertools.com/en_gb/professional-router-table-insert-plate.html
@@FraiserTV That explains why, thanks.
You need to grow up and get some class.l could get through the noise.
