    If stories are accurate, The Tom Baker Janet met had been fighting with producers for a long time.

      Scripts, stories...to hear some tell it ,Tom believed himself to be the only thing standing between the BBC Producers trying to ruin the show, and there's a lot of anecdotal evidence that he wasn't entirely ego tripping

      He is who was the first one I saw on my Black and White tiny TV as a kid in the US reruns. He had already been retired from it, but I wouldn’t have known. All of the previous and post actors in the role had to compete in my mind to match his iteration.

    Tom Baker was perhaps one of the finest Doctor Who ever to grace our television sets. I certainly wish I could have lived during that decade and witnessed his episodes as they first aired. I've got some of his adventures on DVD (personally love his intro to the series, cracks me up every time, and Genesis of the Daleks? One of the finest pieces of writing and acting on a Doctor Who set ever committed to screen!). The modern day Doctors after Tennant felt shaky at best during much of their run - even if They all had some great potential.

      I was the right age for Tom Baker to be "my" Doctor and your intuition is right, he was wonderful in the part. "Pyramids of Mars" is my personal favourite, well written, interesting, scary, has it all. Also wonderful to see Baker stealing the show years later in Blackadder, my friends still sometimes say "You have a WOMANS purse my lord".

    Tom Baker was a great actor. He wanted great storylines to accompany that. If they weren't, he would flatly refuse to do them. He had integrity. Unlike Doctor 15.

    Tom Baker was the best Doctor.
    Peter Davidson - 2nd best.
    Sly McCoy and Collin Baker needed better stories.

    • @farmerned6
      @farmerned6 Před měsícem +2

      my opinion
      Tom was MY doctor , (but also the best by EVERY metric)
      Peter Davidson - never really altered himself that much from Tristan Farnon in All creatures great and Small (But I LOVED a A Very Peculiar Practice)
      for Collin Baker the series started to fall apart
      for Sly McCoy is was openly dross - when bertie bassett ( The Kandyman) is a villain it was time to quit

    • @brianerickson6775
      @brianerickson6775 Před měsícem

      @@farmerned6 Agree.
      Davidson - Didn't see him in anything else before Doctor Who. So, all original.
      The cancelations stuff, I didn't find out about it until the Early 90's-ish.
      I'm American and watched on PBS.
      Sly McCoy didn't quit. It was canceled - rating and bad writing.
