I'm not going to pretend that I had an overage of choice when I was younger, but I was cursed with being asked out by two girls less than a week apart: my childhood friend and another girl in our class that I had gotten close to. My childhood friend had asked me out first and I'd said yes; but if I'm being honest, I didn't think I had a chance for romance with her and was (pleasantly) surprised by her advances. I do think that if the other girl had asked me out first I would have said yes to her.
To say that my whole life hinged on that one moment would not be an understatement, because I'm celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary to my childhood friend in about a week. It's crazy how life is.
