- St. Teresa Benedicta is one of the least understood Carmelite saints. Her complex philosophical writings can overwhelm and intimidate those untrained in phenomenology. But as a convert to the Catholic faith, prominent female speaker, Carmelite nun, and Auschwitz martyr, her inspirational life has something to say to us all. In this episode, Fr. Michael-Joseph of St. Thérèse is joined by Br. Pier Giorgio of Christ the King to demystify St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross.

Check out this great docudrama on the life of St. Teresa Benedicta: czcams.com/video/OTbuuMeoD_o/video.html
Thank you for the wonderful podcast! Saint Edith Stein is very special to me as my father's family is Irish Catholic and German Jewish. Most of the German Jewish branch were killed in the Showy. I'm also a Secular Discalced Carmelite and I'm a writer. God Bless Father and Brother!
These men are so chill. I need some of that.
Thanks for introducing us briefly to the life of Edith Stien
Thank you for this wonderful episode about St. Teresa Benedicta. I found it very interesting and informative. I didn’t know that Roman Ingarden was a teacher in Poland alongside Karol Wojtyla and that is how Pope St. John Paul II came to know about St. Edith. Looking forward to the next episode! Thank you!

I very much appreciate these mini-lessons on Carmelite spirituality. Any chance for a CarmelCast on the secular Carmelites (OCDS)?
Thank you so much for this interesting video about Edith Stein.
Enjoyable and informative; also, a wonderful icon of the saint! Thank you so much!
Super helpful episode!!!
Exelent! Thank you
Thank you for these discussions, especially this one! God bless!
I have posted both your discussion and the link to the docudrama on my Facebook page.
Nice job! I admit I always thought studying her was difficult! This makes me want to learn more about her! Thank you and God Bless you all! 💞
Excellent talk! It was simple yet profound. I came to know about Edith Stein an year back and was truly astonished at the brilliance and erudition of her writings, at times finding it hard to comprehend. Though an excellent student of Husserl and an original thinker, Edith Stein is least popular. This has been a perplexing question before me.
2 years later on the day of her death ; Thanks 😇
I was hesitant to read St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross because, in my mind, she was too intellectual. Thank you for debunking that myth! Thanks to your podcast, I am ordering 2 books from ICS to become better acquainted with her! Thank you much! God bless! Keep up the good work!
ST. TERESA BENEDICTA OF THE CROSS (EDITH STEIN): “It has always been far from me to think that God’s mercy allows itself to be circumscribed (limited) by the visible Church’s boundaries. God is Truth. All who seek truth seek God, whether this is clear to them or not.”
Needs to be more on her esp her Science of the Cross about St John and the ann of his 500th birthday, which she could not finish bec the Nazis took her away. Also, the nuns rescued her writings; otherwise, the Nazis would have burnt them.
ST. TERESA BENEDICTA OF THE CROSS (EDITH STEIN): ‘The concept which assumes that everything in the Church is irrevocably set for all times appears to me to be a false one. It would be naive to disregard that the Church has a history; the Church is a human institution and, like all things human, was destined to change and evolve. Likewise, its development takes place often in the form of struggles.’
I meant Shoah, sorry!
I’ve been feeling called to read some of Ediths writings for a while but everything I’ve picked up has been very dense. Any suggestions for which of her works are easiest to read?
Edy, I would recommend starting with her autobiography, Life in a Jewish Family.
Thank you!
St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross has a truly holy presentation of genuine feminism-- not the heresy we know as Modern Feminism.
