Syracuse QB pulls off some of the smoothest play fakes in college football history 😨

- During the college football game between Syracuse and Purdue, Syracuse quarterback Garrett Schrader looked like a magician on multiple plays, as the entire defense believed he had handed the ball off only for him to run into the open field. Schrader finished the game with 195 yards rushing as the Orange won 35-20 on the road.

Bro’s minoring in theater
@@user-lx9wm2ie7c? Lol
W pfp
Hollywood doesn’t have actors this good!!!!
Majoring…that was a clinic.
Lol
Also huge props to the RB for committing to the plays without ball in hand. Another essential part of fakes is to pretend to have the ball when you don’t!
Yeah, everyone has to sell the fake. Just one player can tip off the defense and ruin it. So, props to the entire Syracuse offense for their ability to sell these plays.
THATS WHY ITS CALLED A FAKE....thanks professor
@@ShawnLH88 you know theres a difference between a GOOD and a BAD fake? You might still need the professor to teach you a couple of things
100%
@@v2micca big men in the attacking line. Of course my team told me it was a fake I was just pretending.
How they didn't have someone spying the QB on the backside was unbelievable. They ran this play multiple times, and they never sniffed it out. That's just bad scheming.
College Football
There's very few in College that this fake out will not work If your facing against them. And there are many college teams who are below average defense that this fake out will work. just like this one.
Yea he had almost 200 yards rushing, crazy that the defense was so unprepared for him to keep it on that last run lol.
Purdue put a spy on him for most of the second half. Obviously not every play though 🤣
tbh this is kind of result of the modern game and protecting the QB. Its a gamble to blitz the QB on the chance it might be a fake because if its not and you hit him you can guarantee a penalty. And even if it is theres the looming threat of a roughing call. This is almost a safe play in some regards.
@@justmedeewhatever the offensive play is the defensive scheme should have someone containing the outside
Ever since Chad Pennington I wondered why they don’t practice this more. This guy is on another level
they don't do this more because in the Pros the defenders are too fast with too much awareness and the QBs are too expensive and too non expendable
@@alexmarlow2508Looks like this is making him safer by changing the timing of when defenders expect to see their reads and keys
@@MrSilus2000 this doesn't make him safer at all, it only seems that way because he just happen to trick the defenders, but most of the time the QB will get hit, very rarely would they trick the defenders and break into open field like this, especially in the NFL. NFL defenders are way too fast and hit way too hard and study too many films. Any time QB runs he risks ending his season/career by getting laid out by a NFL linebacker or lineman or safety, you cannot incorporate that into a game plan and do it consistently unless you want your season to end along with the QB
Sure worked for Brett Favre all these years
In the NFL , I think with top RB , and with crazy pocket QB you can pull this off
I have been wondering for years why more QBs do not use this approach. Sometimes when you're 20 ft from the end zone this is so much easier.
It's risky and demands a level of athleticism that QB's don't really train for. Imagine if one of the backline was spying the QB he would have been hit hard once he goes for the rush.
Cause it doesn't work that easily in the NFL
If they got a spy then they’re gonna watch you like a hawk and when you start running the opposite direction of the play they’re gonna hit you as hard as they can
@@mrr5052this isn’t the NFL, though.
Lol unless you are Peyton Manning where no one expects you to fake
Bro those are sooooo smooth. They should really coach quarterbacks to do this, it seems replicable. Also I’d have definitely scored on that last play if it were me lol
I bet he be in the dorm practicing.... if he cant do nothing, he can play fake.
I say the main issue with this is, if hes watching the runningback and standing nonchalantly like he doesnt have the ball - he will not be getting back up if he gets drilled from his blind side
@@loganbivins2438 Imagine drilling him into the ground and then looking up to see the running back with the ball
Yeah I would have scored too because scoring margin counts towards rankings in college, right? So you kinda have to put the beat down even when the game’s already decided, that’s why teams like Georgia, Alabama, and OSU always beat nobodies like 62-7
@@ThingSomeRandomI don't think it's as much scoring margin as it is domination/ease of victory... they actually watch the games and don't just go by final score. But I may be wrong.
Absolute perfection. I'm sure he takes pride in mannerisms with his body movements as he fakes
To be fair, that really was smooth as Hell. He earned both those moves, well played.
That was so good that when they replayed it, even after I'd just watched him score, I thought he might have handed it off haha
"He waited a long time"
That's what sold it so well
Used to be pretty common practice thirty or more years ago. Payton Manning was the last NFL QB to be really good at fakes. I feel that the shotgun offence has killed a lot of this old-time trickery.
McNabb was really good at fakes like this too.
The fake slide by Pitt last year was also pretty good.
@@calhitmen That fake slide was BS though. That should be a penalty because it puts the defense in a no win situation. You can't hit a QB once he starts his slide. They would've been penalized if they hit him. Once you start a slide, you have to go down.
Daniel Jones is low key nasty with the play fake. Probably the best fake in the NFL
Aaron Rodgers has a good one, Shrader has said in an interview that Rodgers is who he tried to emulate when he learned how to do this.
😮 that was vs Purdue , wow. He definitely puts super extra time into this. He's pushing them hides and hold to the max.
Troy Nunes is an absolute magician.
The QB and RB both ride the fake much longer than you usually see, which is probably a big part of why they work so well. Gives the defense more time to get out of position.
QB deserves an Emmy for that acting job!!!
huh?
He sells it. No many QBs do that these days
Nasty.
Geeez, I was ready to call cap, but glad I actually watched the video. 🥶😮
Stinky.
This kid has Andrew Luck-level intelligence
And how many rings does Andrew have hahaha he ran out of Luck hahahaha
@@oraleholmes1263 Colts ruined him. Had nothing to do with him
@@Birdman957exactly.
@@oraleholmes1263That wasn’t on Luck though
dont get why people hate on Luck. a really good player with a really good attitude. he just got out before he got hurt real bad. thats smart also. some people would rather watch some big mouth dance and trash talk the whole game.
We’re in October and they still don’t know where the ball is 😂😂😂😂😂
Garrett “The Shadow” Schrader
We actually have named him Darth Shrader up here at the Ice Palace, lol Go Cuse!
I hope he can stay healthy for the whole season. He’s gotten hurt every year…
Maybe he was just "faking" it.
Since he replaced that bum Devito, Syracuse has had gold QB play. Wish this wasn't his last year of eligibility.
He's gonna get CRUSHED from the blind side on one of these fakes eventually.
I assume that’s why he stopped short when he easily could have gotten to the end zone on the second run
I liked Garrett Schrader when he played at Mississippi State. I miss him
Dude acting so hard he could be in a movie
We all need to remember that the running back going full blast is just as important to the sell
@@Johnny-rj9onExactly. Without the RB going full force, none of this works.
Yep, team effort. The whole teams knows it's a fake play, and they all sell it. They all look where they should and act like the ball is someplace where it isn't. The theatre department could take lessons from them.
Hollywood doesn’t have actors this good…QB is a superstar!!!
The way his eyes follow the back, and the time he keeps them on the back, is what makes his fakes so effective...
Knowing where all the defenders are is key to this. Knowing there isn't one out there behind him and taking a backside sack is crucial.
I laughed when they ran the play again to close the game.
Lmao nobody on defense was even looking at the qb on that second play 😂
That 1-2 second delay before he slowly wanders out around the end is the key .
🎼He's a smooth 🎵operator...
🎶Smooth... 🎵operator.
acting so well he should be called Smooth Opera Shrader
David Greene for UGA, several years ago, was just as smooth…… very effective
exceptional at hiding the ball
It seems smooth because he actually has the patience to wait and keep watching the running back. Those first 2 seconds are all he needs to convince the defense, they don't have the time to stare at a non-moving player for 2 whole seconds just to make sure he doesn't still have the ball.
Yeah but there’s no way this would have worked in the nfl
Props to the QB for not trying to score and just trying to run out the clock.
Proud to be an Orangemen
These refs are smiling
Kid deserves an Oscar, not a Hesiman
0:11 watch #46 on the end of the line, (right side as we look from the top)... the confusion is palpable
It’s the pause and stand up and look at the running back. He is very patient. Nerves of steel.
I had to watch that twice.
Finally. I've been waiting to see this. Usually they run right away before defenders actually get fooled.
Dudes a magician
Absolutely beautiful ball skills
Incredible fake, incredible acting after the fake, and incredible patience to really sell it... Wow!
The QB slows down to a walk while watching the RB - sells it. Smooth, very smooth.
rumor has it Purdue still thinks the RB has the ball.
Syracuse QB? I mean can we give this man some respect and at least out his name in the title? Let this guy gain some viral fame before hes done with sports
This kid has got Skills. He is definitely "Ready For His Close-up, Mr. DeMille""😂😂🤣🤣
That was seriously impressive.
This kid is a weapon 😮
Outstanding content.
Finally a qb with common sense, every time someone who watches football that doesn’t regularly watch football always ask themselves, why don’t they just go around? Lol
He and the running back really sell the fake! Well done.
When you wanted to be a magician, but your dad wants you to play football.
That sleight of hand was on point. Misdirect with the eyes, hide the ball away and w/ the body
...it's Tuesday, and he just did it again.
They’re running the David Copperfield offense.
Future magician confirmed 🧙♂️
Darth Shrader strikes again.
Shader has some of the best college football highlights between his helicopter run at Mississippi State, and his extremely impressive fake handoffs at Syracuse.
Good O-line is really crucial here. He knows he's got the blocking to really sell the fake.
The hesitance after the fake as he watches the runner really throws it off!
Cha cha real smooth~
The entire premise of the video is about fakes and bro still got me on the second one
The definition of smooth...
the second one was so good that he could have ran 76 yards for a TD practically at 2/3 speed .... the only defender that came into the picture was the DB from the OPPOSITE side of the field, and that was ONLY bcuz the QB was not even running at HALF speed 😂
Yes I'm like wtf
Very impressive
Finally something interesting at Cuse Football
Not once, but twice!! Golden. 🤣🤣
yeah syracuse fan here and thats amazing
I bet he’s a good dancer 😂
Great ball handling skills
Hank's legacy lives on through him
That’s a Payton Manning move.😂
0:46 Ref saying ""you're a sneaky son of a gun".
When you hire a part-time magician to play QB
that 2nd one was so clean. he sold that so hard everyone just had to buy it.
Plays with all the sleight of hand of a top level card sharper.
The beauty of a q under center.
That was a good run too
Remember in Waterboy when they had Towelboy? Some other college is gonna try this and get flattened 🤣
very impressive
And Purdue still calling time out, lol.
Embarrassing
Definitely a useful addition to the quarterback’s bag of tricks, but obviously you want to use it very sparingly for it to be effective!
We better see Syracuse in the National Championships.
Yeah that aint no joke. Kids a magician
Great ball handling and fakes from the backs, but that is why defense has to know where the ball is at all times.
Coaches are licking their chops w these QBs now
Dude's clearly been slinging something other than Play Action 😏
I’ve always wondered if a slight of hand magician would be able to hide these option runs well.
That’s is by far a smooth a$$ criminal 😅
Purdue is like my pup when I fake throw the ball. 🤣🤣
Smooth Criminal
Nice! 👏👏👏👏👏
It’s nice to see The Orange on CZcams and they’re not getting posterized.
🍊
- New rule: The football must be visible at all times.
It’s stupid how good that second one was.
0:23 He even faked out his own teammate
Dude, nice observation. You made me think now that only the QB and Running back are in on this. This ensures that it looks legit on the offensive line's part. Otherwise, they would blow the fake by half ass blocking.
The epitome of “fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
Dude must have a _nasty_ crossover...
Imagine if Michael Vick had mastered this fake.
Legend has it, they're still trying to tackle the running back
