    How interesting. I am wearing this powder for the first time today and am having a completely different experience. I’m normal with oily t zone and the powder is completely invisible on me and is controlling my oil all day. I’m very impressed. I used it all over my face over Dior B.B. cream. Just goes to show how different we all are. Loved the video!

    Thanks for the review! Surprisingly, I really love the Hourglass powder, and I have oily/combo skin. The sheen gives my face a “natural” pretty glow. I don’t notice the cakiness around my nose throughout the day, but then again, I don’t generally wear foundation most days, just concealer.

  • @dtrujillo60
    @dtrujillo60 Před 6 lety +18

    Great review ! I love using this powder. I’ve heard that you should turn the powder upside down and give it a few taps, and then turn it right side up and open the cap. It’s supposed to dispense an almost exact amount of powder that you will need.

  • @makeupluvr2546
    @makeupluvr2546 Před 6 lety +26

    Regarding packaging - according to the Hourglass demo, the cap is designed to cover the little holes in the sifter and lock it in place, and with the top screwed on, you're supposed to turn it over and tap, and it supposedly releases the perfect amount into the cap. Dip and swirl. It worked ok I suppose. . I liked the Marc Jacobs coconut powder better. Both in design and how it wore and looked. Now the new Hourglass brush? I LOVE IT(even if it's double ended) . thanks for the great review!

    • @TheMicheleWang
      @TheMicheleWang  Před 6 lety +5

      Ohh I've tried the turning over too - maybe I need to tap harder. I'll give that a shot next time. Thank you!! I've been testing out the Marc Jacobs too, and while I didn't think it was anything special at first, I'm realizing that it's just a nice, solid, powder. Sets, stays put and doesn't change the appearance of my makeup underneath!

    • @makeupluvr2546
      @makeupluvr2546 Před 6 lety +1

      Yes agree, the Marc Jacobs is a solid nice powder. I'm a bit in lust with how it smells despite hearing folks moan about it. Nothing like being transported to the beach while powdering up. lol. Have a great one and look forward to seeing more. You are not helping my budget tho. I've coveting too much! Ugh. :-D

  • @mytamhoang3553
    @mytamhoang3553 Před 4 lety +6

    It’s perfect when you flip it upside down and tap lightly then turn it right side up. I think that’s exactly how it was meant to be used. I get a perfect amount each time and it keeps the bowl clean.
    I love this powder. I have very very oily skin but very dry skin on cheeks, around mouth and forehead. It does not make my skin look dry or shiny.

  • @jngmail
    @jngmail Před 6 lety +5

    For a finishing powder it's mostly for the blurring effect that most people wear it. I've seen others skip the T zone for the "buffing" method with a finishing powder.

    • @TheMicheleWang
      @TheMicheleWang  Před 6 lety +2

      Yes, def skipping that t-zone!! I've never bothered with adding another layer of powder to my dry skin, but on my cheeks it may be ok! 😃

    • @danielled5883
      @danielled5883 Před 5 lety +3

      Jacqueline Nehama agree. I have normal to dry skin (no oily areas at all) and this powder works beautifully as a finishing/blurring powder on me.

  • @mariaelena40
    @mariaelena40 Před 6 lety +1

    According the the Hourglass site, you are to turn the container upside down (while closed of course!) upside down and tap lightly the bottom to dispense the correct amount of powder.

  • @larang9318
    @larang9318 Před 6 lety +2

    I bought this powder and the Marc jacobs coconut powder and I prefer the Marc jacobs. I completely agree with your review. I have oily mature skin and didn’t like this powder. When I first applied it I thought it looked nice but after a couple of hours the slight shine this powder has became very evident and looked horrible and heavy when mixed with my oils. It didn’t set my makeup as well as other powders. The Marc jacobs doesn’t have a sheen and looks very natural. My absolute favourite loose powder at the moment is the cover fx matte setting powder. The cover fx normal setting powder is nice too. Thanks for. Great review.

  • @joanie-music
    @joanie-music Před 6 lety +2

    HA! Interesting! I use the Veil Powder on my cheek and jawline/chin area where I'm dry/normal. Then use a mattifying powder in the more oily center sections... simply because otherwise, the center of my face and forehead do melt away and break up makeup. Another trick is to spray a dewy setting spray on the sides of the face, where I need extra moisture. Then, spray a mattifying setting spray, where I'm oily, down the center of my face. Yeh... it's a little more work, but then I don't have to fidget with my makeup through the work day.

  • @catc473
    @catc473 Před 6 lety +3

    I am SO with you on the Ambient Lighting ones too - they look thick and heavy on me almost immediately. Only an extremely thin layer works. I've had no such issues with the Guerlain Meteorites - so been sticking to those mostly . :-/

    • @TheMicheleWang
      @TheMicheleWang  Před 6 lety +2

      I just took advantage of a friend's 40% off at Guerlain and purchased two different Meteorites on your recommendation! Can't wait to try them!

    • @catc473
      @catc473 Před 6 lety +2

      Wow, I am so excited for you!!! So, I have two limited edition 'loose' powders (with the little pearls in the box - one is gold toned, and one is a cool light pink), plus a pressed version too. I get the impression that the loose pearls give off a finer powder and lead to a more polished look relative to the pressed version, but that could just be me! Would love to hear your thoughts if you got the pressed one too. And...small caveat. The Meteorites have tiny glowy particles in there - but they're not exactly glitter and you can only see them if holding a mirror just cm away, and right after application. Somehow though, they seem to blend in and become invisible soon after (as I wouldn't run around with a face full of glitter for sure!). But it's just something to be aware of. :-) They also have the most divine violet smell, which is a signature Guerlain scent - that and the very relaxing scent they use in their bronzers, which I for one love. Ok, to make a long story short - I think you'll love the Meteorites, and am super stoked for you!!

    Soooo totally concur-se! Wanted to love it but I'm oily and have lines so it did not work for me for any longer than the initial application. It caked over the few hours I wore it and emphasize-SIZE-d my pores which of course are largest in the oiliest T-Zone of danger ever!

    I love to do this finishing powder buffing lastly in my routne with the Sonia G brush like you but I use a very light Hourglass ambient light powder only with a very light layer and it makes all my products blush,bronze,highlight all meld together seamlessly.if done sensitively that doesn’t make the effect thick.....maybe give it a try...

    i got this powder and i loveee love love it as a little veil around the perimeter and cheeks just to get things set .. but if i wanted to actually set my oil vat zone, it makes it almost like.. cakey like you were explaining it.. it just didn't look or feel natural in those areas.

    I totally agree with you that too much of the Ambient Lightning Powders emphasize peach fuzz. Once I applied ‘Radiant Light’ with the Tom Ford Bronzer brush...such a bad idea. Strategically placed on the high planes with the Wayne Goss Air Brush is much better.
    I was contemplating if to get this powder or the new Marc Jacobs one but it appears as though neither are good for oily dark skin tones 😩

    I have oily skin and I really dislike this powder. It doesn't set any of my go-to foundation combos(Double Wear/Fenty+La Mer Fluid/Tom Ford Traceless). My bronzer does NOT blend well on top. The shining effect also totally outweights the "bluring" effect on pores and textures so it's basically a "what can you even do successfully" situation.

    Great review on this powder. Is it possible due to the fineness of the powder, less is more? Sometimes I feel it’s hard to judge how much to use. I rarely use powder to set my foundation since it emphasizes my lines but I do like it to touch up my nose and chin during the day.
