Marty Jones, with his contemporary Mark Rocco, one of those who if it started "for real" was more than capable of handling himself..

Most wrestlers in Britain were shooters at least. Even Big Daddy knew a tiny bit about shooting.

Did they also shorten the programme when they moved it to lunchtime i believe they did, but I still watched every week then American wrestling began on British TV even more fixed that was.

It was all worked, British and American alike. Not fixed, that implied a fraudulent "knobbling" of what should have been a legitimate sporting contest. Wrestling, professional wrestling at least, ceased to be that in the 1920s. It was/is entertainment. That's not to say some of the wrestlers weren't tough. Some were very tough it's just that it had no bearing on the matches.

So how come you could never bet on wrestling matches then? The bookies knew that the winner had already been decided before they entered the ring. I don't say EVERY match was fixed but most were.

@@djgaryowens you have misunderstood me Gary. ALL matches were predetermined you're right, but fixed is not the right term. The term used in the buisness is worked. You can't "fix" a pro wrestling match because there's really no such thing. Its entertainment. If a match is not worked you will hear it described as a shoot but In pro wrestling that is exceptionally rare.

Also there's nothing to stop two people having a legit Catch Wrestling match in a ring with pro-style rules:

Is that a very West German looking Belgian flag at the start ?
