Des Moines, the capital and most populous city in the U.S. state of Iowa, lies on the Des Moines River at its juncture with the Raccoon River in the south-central part of the state. Incorporated in 1851 as Fort Des Moines, it was later shortened to simply “Des Moines” in 18571. This vibrant city serves as the county seat of Polk County, with parts extending into Warren County
